Scott, I consider your main channel one of the secret weapons that took me from horrid to competent, but I really must insist that you stop blowing the cover off the secret source of my knowledge among the simmers and go back to your real racing only ;-) But seriously, loving the content and really enjoying watching you work your way thru some of the unexpected pitfalls of online racing (latency, over-optimistic drivers with no fear of death, etc). Keep it going man.. Great stuff.

I just wanted to say thanks for making these videos. I was already pretty fast but I did not recognize some of the things that I might have been doing or might not have been doing. An example being using dips in the track to turn the car more. now I actively try to pay attention to these things and I've become an even faster driver because of it. Keep up the good work, I plan on being here for a long time to learn as much as I can.

@@mackamotorsport2593 - Sim racing hardware is only a little piece of the big picture. I know of sim drivers with some of the least expensive hardware going that are incredibly fast. Scott is displaying quite noticeably that competition driving is about learning, skill, getting a car to it's thresholds and being consistent in keeping it there. Excellent racecraft makes for better driving, better driving makes for more consistent race performance. It's not about what your racing with... It's about your approach to racing. Scott's contribution to the Sim Racing community clearly displays a professional drivers approach to racing and his instant results of back to back wins without having run countless laps. He's methodical, scientific, understands what to expect and how to get the driving platform serving him .vs. him serving it. Its simply awesome! Thanks Scott!

We have 2 aliens in our league, one has a G27 and one was running a DFGT for quite some time. You don't need fancy equipment to be fast.
@intersepter100
@intersepter100 4 жыл бұрын
@@nwbasson Yes I tend to agree to some extent, but at the same time I believe that let's say "better" equipment would be a help. Personally I think to get the most out of the car all be it virtual, the higher end equipment would be an advantage. Yes you can do well with the G27's and such, but I think that it's harder to get that faster time. I suppose it's down to the driving style of the driver, and what he expects or wants from the equipment, as in real life. I find with my sim rig at some levels it isn't up to the standard that is needed to get the most out of the car. Just my opinion. :)

Hi, Scott! Nice video, but I can see, that your brake input in T1 is about 100%, its probably activates your ABS, which makes your car slower in iRacing(I know in real world, sometimes, e.g. in GT3 cars, drivers intentionally activate their ABS, but not in iRacing =) ). I think you will improve your lap times, if you will avoid using of ABS) You can feel that ABS is working by vibration on your steering wheel. Good luck, see you on track)

I have definitely got better over time during racing but I tend to over drive at times which actually slows me down. Do you have a goal to do a particular series. Or you really doing this purely for educational purposes Thanks again Race Ya Soon

Just an FYI: you do not need to clutch downshifts for the MX-5 in iracing. You only need to blip the throttle. This way, you can use two-foot braking more consistently around the track and dong have to worry with heel toe (I'm honestly a little disappointed because I enjoy heel-toing, but I gotta go with the fastest approach).

Hi Scott. Firstly I just want to say how great both of your channels are and thank you for sharing all of your insights and experience! I have a question about the MX-5. A fair bit of time is spent on other iRacing channels talking about how the Mazda has ABS. The consensus among those channels is that 100% brake should be avoided because ABS slows the car worse than hitting the threshold. I can see that you are going 100% so I would love to hear your point of view on the game ABS and maybe your opinions on ABS in the real world on track. Cheers & thanks! Happy Racing!

Can I please ask for braking exercises? In terms of improving how to trail brake and how to precisely release the brake pedal, how to know if you’re braking to much or to little, etc.
@CryptikGaming
@CryptikGaming 4 жыл бұрын
i found out that all depends on your fisical setup. with the logitechs i would have the grafical inputs of the pedals just in front of eye view, so i could check mid braking and during the corner, how much i was aplying, and than trained myself to get better and better at it. of course u need to know exactly what trail braking is. and you should as well see the reaction of the car to it. So just have the inputs in your eye view. and do lots and lots of pratice laps on one circuit only, that you know well, your objective is to try and find the exact speed you need at corner entry to after hitting the brakes, keep them aplied and only release at the apex. if u find out you are losing the car because having brakes aplied,, means you are braking to hard probably. next time you go and try with less braking. always have a look at the inputs you doing. or go back into the replay and recheck what you doing on the inputs. For me was really that only. pratice a lot.. and finding the muscle memory and the coordination, to after aplying the brakes keep releasing them slowly and steady all the way to the apex. And watching the reaction of the car and learn that in some corners i should release the brakes faster for 20% and than slowly, other corners slowly all the way, others realease 70% and than keeping brake aplied for a small bit....

Nice vid once more, i am happy to see that what you say is allready what i use to do(or try to) A little tip on limerock (you would find it by yourself i know but time is money xd) If you take a later apex in turn 2 to stay inside on the exit it will allow you to pass the turn 3 flat out(perfect raceline is mandatory to not exit wide) giving you a good exit speed and if you are not first slipstream would allow you to place you to pass inside on the turn 4. Watch out with this manoeuver in rookie class, they could close the door right on you. I really hope you will make a full career on iracing with some debrief like you do now, it s really interesting to have a pro analyse on your iracing career evolution

I also use VRS and if you watch the tutorial videos from David Williams you see, that his maximum brake input is about 50%. I guess this is different to the real world and you might gain alot of time by reducing your maximum brake input from 100% to 50%. you gain a lot of grip in the turn because the tires won‘t heat up that much.

@@driver61simracing10 fyi this new Season 1 2020 Patch added the new damage model to the Formula 3 car and there you dont really bend anything, but you break your suspension for hitting high kerbs with open wheelers. The only other car that has it yet is the Skip Barber With the old damage model you dont really lose parts like with the new one. Your car is a little like plasticine and bends/deforms when you get damage. That damage generally either screws your handling or your top speed. My example for floor damage comes from the LeMans 24h some friends and I did and one of them hit the sausage kerb in the last corners really hard. Car was visibly perfect, but we were down like ~10kph on the straight, so it likely reshaped the floor Doubt that happens with GTs though because they are generally super damage resistant and dont work as close to the ground as an LMP1 does

Do you race exclusively in VR? Because there the Field-Of-View is always correct automatically. Your replays have a very wide FOV that wouldn't be correct if you raced without VR on your TV setup. Of course some people don't mind having the depth perception all wrong when they at least can see a little outside the driverside window and also get a higher sense of speed from a wide-angle FOV... that's fine, but I think it should be a conscious decision and many people just don't know about the effect of FOV settings. So look it up, if you didn't know about it. iRacing has a built-in FOV calculator that can help you.
@ohsoleohmio
@ohsoleohmio 4 жыл бұрын
yes the exact FOV needs to be calculated according to monitor size eye distance etc , our brain calculates distance much more effectively given the exact same perspective we see and live with in real life , we may be slower initially as our peripheral vision may be reduced which is also a helping factor as is three monitors or VR but even without seeing apex you drive faster. we need the reference point just like entering every corner exactly the same means learning 12 corners instead of 12 thousand if he wants to be fast hes going to need to explore the limits and stick on them at every corner entry simple easy basics we can all do but only aliens are seen doing...

Tire model and FFB are separate things. iRacing's FFB only models forces felt through the steering wheel IRL. There are extensions that add feedback to iRacing that is otherwise only felt through the seat like G-forces, suspension travel, engine vibration, etc.. my AccuForce wheel comes with Sim Commander which enhances the FFB outputs with various other components, it helps.

Why don't you try to win the F1 world championship e-sports? Is the F1 game a good simulation?

I'm guessing this is fixed setup. The Advanced Mazda enables you to tweak the setup to your liking for the track your racing

The new tire model requires much more braking force than the old one. You used to get maximum braking just tickling the abs which was at 50%. Now abs is at 75% and the car still stops pretty well if you lean into it.
