Loved it. Thank you. A walk (rather ride) down memory lane (rail!)... From 1980 onwards I use to catch the Mildura to Ballarat then via to Geelong back and forth 45 years ago, thereabouts. I was so disappoint that Kennett closed the passenger service!

I used to get off and on the train at Hattah to go camping and hiking around the lakes and the Murray River. Nice to see the platform is still there. 😊

Used to do the same, but alas not by train but the overnight V/line road coach from Southern Cross to Mildura,only train activity l ever experienced was in the early hrs waiting for the road coach back to Melbourne,a large freight train thundered through Hattah

If they wanted to re-introduce a Melbourne to Mildura train service, using the present infrastructure and N class locomotive hauled N sets, it would take around 8 hours to 8.5 hours to complete the journey. This includes a stop in Maryborough to change to the V/locity service to Melbourne. The quickest coach service takes around 7.5 hours. A standard gauge line from Maryborough to Geelong would speed up the trip. Using standard gauge V/locity railcars, with appropriate track and level crossing upgrades, would speed up the trip further. Average speed from Mildura to Maryborough is around 66 km/h using the timings on this video.

Rail to Mildura is a safe way to travel. It was great traveling on the Vinelander and you could put your car on the back and sleep overnight in the sleeper carriages and be served a continental breaky....arrrh that great VR coffee. Arriving in Mildura in the morning seeing those palm trees at the station gave the impression of a new tropical country back in the 1970's , so far from Melbourne. They even used a fire hose to wash the dust off the cars. THE FUTURE!? Unless it is under 5 hours, I think cars will remain until the gasoline runs dry and the electric cars are made like sideshow dodgem cars with chicken wire over head and a wire stick Pantagraph.

I just watched this and it was amazing. I haven't seen any trains from Mildura. Also i was wondering if you have TRS22 (Trainz Railroad Simulator 2022) could you show me how to get the n class locomotive and the n class carriages and also the vlocity. Loved your video! And could you tell me ( comment ) how to get the n class+vlocity thxxss

@@mrrol5212 certainly from yelta, the Northern end of the line they are and out on the Murrayville branch but I'm not sure about the rest as I don't drive grain trains any more. Very happy you like the full length video. 👍😀

The line should definitely be converted to dual gauge

Patience old Diamond, dual gauge will be forthcoming as soon as Mildura grows into a city the size of Melbourne. Meanwhile this loco should soon be replaced with a velocity Vline top speed 160+ k/h. Cheers.
