I have noticed that new traffic light systems going up in our area (Milton Keynes) near some of the new estates have no light displaying on the opposite side of the junction. I have found this confusing as once you are in the junction you cannot know when the lights are changing for oncoming vehicles if you are taking a right hand turn. The only way I have managed to explain this to my students is to say to wait until they see the oncoming cars stop and then go ahead with the turn. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Hiya many thanks for the question. We have a couple of those by us too, and i whole heartedly aggree that they are annoying. Lol The way you are doing it is totally correct, because even if the light were visible, we would say to the student that was turning right - Either wait for a gap in the traffic or for the light to turn red and make sure the car isn't going to go through before turning, so the only difference now is that we can't see the light going red. But we are still looking for gaps or for the cars opposite to stop. 🙂
