I had an ‘06 with the 5MT. Loved it but just wish it had either a v6 or a 6MT. On the highway it sits at 4K rpms and with the aerodynamics of an ice chest, the mileage was not great.
@Tool0GT924 жыл бұрын
I have an 05 crv with a 5 speed, it hits 3k rpms at about 65mph. Apparently there is a block you can remove from the transmission and install an acura tsx sixth gear.
@guenthersteiner81634 жыл бұрын
Phil T I’m surprised they used the 5MT for the K24. My R18 civic only has 5 gears and it kinda needs a 6th one too (~3.5K RPM on the highway)
@Tool0GT924 жыл бұрын
@@guenthersteiner8163 it would be nice to cruise at lower rpms but engineers smarter than us built the cars. Your gas mileage would probably be 1mpg better if you had a sixth gear.
@canuckfixit77224 жыл бұрын
Yeah, agreed - geared too short so it's ok for city runs but too high revs at highway speeds. Thankfully the engine is very good and still smooth at higher cruising revs!
@luisg16534 жыл бұрын
@@Tool0GT92 is correct. The power at lower RPM would struggle to push against the wind and you wouldn't benefit. Higher RPM in modern motors doesn't necessarily mean less fuel economy. When I referred my truck from 3.91 to 4.56 my fuel economy got better on highways even though my RPM went up.

I bought a 2003 5MT as a project car for $900 and regret every moment i’ve put into it. The suspension system is absolute trash and needs a full replacement. Rear control arms destroy the rear tires. Poor ride quality. I could go on and on. But great utility.
