I agree with the whole "modern-rat-car culture" thing that keeps getting mentioned in the comment section, but it seems to be the most accurate way to describe the current car enthusiast mentality especially prevalent in my generation. The best way to describe it would be a desire to be part of modding culture while simultaneously refusing to buy into the "new is better" narrative that is being rammed down our throats by older members who don't seem to acknowledge our financial frugality that has arisen from an increasingly globalist world where automotive designs are becoming increasingly more homogenized and unrefined performance is viewed as "too edgy" and/or "counterproductive". Couple that with the nihilistic outlook that many people my age have, gawdy and sketchy creations like this are not only becoming the norm, but are actually desirable as they serve as a protest of sorts. You can call me pretentious all you want, but I seriously feel like this is the reason why stuff like this is becoming more and more prevalent.
