The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) is one of the most competitive racing series on the planet. Heavily modified production-based cars packed onto one circuit, battling it out for the lead in quickfire races. Here, we drive one of the front-running Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type Rs around the world-famous Silverstone International circuit. A serious racing car, or just a tuned up Civic Type R? Get the verdict, here.
With special thanks to Honda UK and Team Dynamics.

ffs guys you've dropped the ball on this one.. The ONLY way to get a feel for what she's like to drive from an armchair is pov.. Just inset a part screen/full screen cam that shows the wheel, driver inputs and a clear view of the apex (not blocked by the rear view mirror, dash, pillars etc).. Haven't you ever just watched a car video before?? C'mon boys it's obvious..and there's you 'its good its really noisy in the cabin cause its gives us a better understanding of what the things.. Dear oh dear..what ever next??

Do you need to heel - toe or rev matching with such transmission or it'll do everything automatically for you. I just curious about the driver's braking algorithm. You hold the brake pedal and simultaneously changing gears or you still need to left foot brake and rev match with the right foot?

Because of the forces involved you want to you use your shoulder muscles not just your arm muscles. Proper seating position for a race car means there should be a 90 degree bend at your elbow.
@vkoptchev
@vkoptchev 4 жыл бұрын
I would appreciate if you can comment on how much of a smoothness is sacrificed in order to achieve such levels of performance? The car looks jerky at low rpm when you exit on the pit lane. How smooth are the gear changes up and down, how much engine vibration is present in the cockpit. What is the level of overall roughness compared to the road version, and in what areas.
@vkoptchev
@vkoptchev 4 жыл бұрын
@@maxymillion7480 I know that in theory, but have not experienced it. Smoothness should be a concern even in a race car. The guy doesn't give information about how that car feels, except that it's noisy and fast.
@CARmagazineTV
@CARmagazineTV 4 жыл бұрын
It is indeed jerky at low RPM - as indeed any racing car with said gearbox is. Gearchanges are instantaneous as long as you're decisive with the lever, also surprisingly smooth. Engine vibration is prominent at all speeds. Like night and day compared with the road version, which is reasonably civilised. As you'd expect, BTCC racer is far noisier, firmer and harder to drive. Steering is much lighter than the road car however - something which is tailored to the specific driver.
@ukracer7593
@ukracer7593 4 жыл бұрын
Most race cars feel like tractors at low speed on normal roads. It's not until you get them in the powerband at speed that they work. You don't really notice any vibration, roughness etc when you're racing.

What is more sensible? buying a BTCC car for track use, or a GT4 car?
@bobbieeeee
@bobbieeeee 4 жыл бұрын
A GT4 is a lot closer to its road car than equivalent a BTCC car. However in GT4 most components will be specific to that manufacturer whereas many parts in BTCC are shared among other teams and manufacturers. A BTCC car will probably be more expensive to buy but cheaper to race over the course of a season.

It is pretty much genuine Honda with the TCR it is the same with Hyundai and other brands too. The engine block is from the manufacturer. The foundation chassis / chassis are the same. So the engine note will carry on from stock to racing. Sounds changes a bit due to bigger turbo's and exhaust and header. You still get that Honda Civic-bred out of the TCR car. This was closely explained with the Hyundai i30N TCR and its the same with the Honda and other brands sorry

Pretty sure a fwd civic would lap faster than a rwd civic. It depends on a lot of things not just the driven wheels, there are fwd drive civics running 8's. AWD gets good 0-60 times but adds a lot of weight so can often have a disadvantage in lap times, take the focus rs for example, much heavier.
@BoilerBloodline
@BoilerBloodline 4 жыл бұрын
xu10j4rs1 Yeah...I’m not sure what changes are made to further balance the car for FWD. Assuming there is, obviously they would do the same for RWD. But it is true that RWD cars are faster around a track. I can’t say if AWD’s are as well, that one is just preference due to having driven both RWD and AWD on a track.

There's a reason EG/DC chassis are still the fastest time attack cars in the world. Give the same treatment given to this Type R to a GSR or EG hatch and you have a 2400lb full dress race car with a better center of gravity and less weight. Look up some videos of the ITR at GridLife last year.
