Tristan hasn't operated a Super Yacht for over 8 months. He's throwing himself in the deep end as he tries to manoeuvre the vessel between 2 solid concrete walls. He might be a bit rusty.

Great channel, love the call outs for engine engagements (forward, neutral, reverse), throttle positions, rudder positions, and/or bow thruster usage! With the wind conditions/directions and/or any water currents one understands the variables at hand. Brings back memories when I crossed the Atlantic (twice). My father was the Captain of a brand new 116' Feadship. The first time as a deck hand, on her maiden voyage from Holland to Miami, Fla (southern route). Second time as the First Mate (Northern route) from Miami, up the Inter-coastal waterway to Washington DC, Bermudia, and into the Mediterian Sea.

Nicely done. On small boats I would use throttles only and leave rudders midship but being such a big ship I can see that the extra force you need is by using the rudders and of course you have two. André

Going into 2020 season, can you do a Vlog that explains all the costs associated with a charter? Weekly fee cover every? I’ve heard it’s the fee, plus gas, plus food, plus tips, plus, plus, plus. It would be good to have a better understanding on what it means to charter the boat on a weekly basis. Thank You

When we chartered, it was the weekly rate and we were told to add approximately 30% of the weekly rate for food, fuel, etc. The tip for the crew was not included in either amount. The 30% was just about spot on in the end for the extras.

I think you guys are missing my point! As a charter yacht captain & KZbin influencer, I’m trying to give Tristin some ideas for upcoming Vlogs. Could make for a great Vlog for AWOL and the Charter Industry that has been devastated from the COVID-19 situation!
@chunkychinn
@chunkychinn 4 жыл бұрын
@@SethRBaron Seth if you look back through Capt. Mortlock's vlogs you will find that he has already talked in great deal about these topics. And as stated above the price is prohibitive to most people. You are looking in the '000000s per week basic hire at peak periods, plus at least 30% for provisioning and that includes looking after the crew. Then you have fuel, AWOL holds roughly enough fuel for 250nm'ish so if your planning a long med cruise be prepared to pay for it. Then there are the docking fees and/or anchorage which can be as much as £5k per night for a yacht of AWOL's size.and there is a charge for all consumables ie. Alcohol and soft drinks and then finally the gratuity which is between 10% and 25% of the total cost. You may thing that this s lot but these guys are there for you 24/7!

tristan, do you think the 360 degree surround camera, with proximity sensors, will ever be adapted to super yachts as they have with cars and trucks? It may be cost effective by eliminating the need for port and starboard control stations. No more need to leave the helm and in a pinch you could dock with a short crew. There may be some money to be made by developing a reliable system for larger boats.

Hello Captain, another fantastic video, excellent steerage I could not have done it better myself haha sorry. I have two questions for you,, I will be extremely grateful if you can find the time to answer them for me. When you were pulling the stern in, your commentary was as follows :- Rudder a-mid-ships,, Port Engine forward Starboard Engine a-stern. Why set the rudder a-mid-ships, and not to starboard? When you did your. Pre-castoff checks (sorry I can't remember the correct term), you did rudder port and starboard, bow thruster but you did not check that you had forward or a-stern engagement / movement, this also checks the gearbox too, my experience is only from a 10m Dutch steel motor cruiser, single engine no bow thruster, certainly not a yacht let alone a Superyacht lol that silly laugh again, sorry. Keep up the good work and take good care of yourself and your nearest and dearest. God speed, Best wishes and good luck. David...
