Teaching a Learner Driver Parallel Parking // This parallel parking video shows Lauren learning how to use the 1 o'clock method using full locks of the steering wheel to execute a parallel park that would be suitable for the UK practical driving test. The parallel park exercise is one of the four manoeuvres that may be chosen on the day of your practical driving test at random. It is important to remember that you will not be asked to park in between two cars on your driving test. Only to complete the manoeuvre within two cars lengths. When parking in a real life situation, this method (the timings, spacings etc) will likely need to be adjusted slightly however the general principles of this parallel park method should remain the same.

@@user-kh5fr8gq4d Good luck, what i will say is the test is far easier than a normal lesson. You can correct all manouvers which was nice. I kinda messed up my forward bay parking, i asked if i can correct it, she said yes and i did it safely. Just be CONFIDENT!

This is why I went with automatic. Clutch control was a headache, when driving in London, it’s not convenient to be stalling around.
@EinkOLED

But you would have mastered it in end and had the benefit of being able to drive either a manual or automatic.

Oh, I do have a manual licence, just the car I chose was automatic 😬. I learnt in a manual diesel, and I wasn’t allowed to get a diesel manual so I ended up with an automatic petrol.
@EinkOLED
@EinkOLED 5 жыл бұрын
@@1234nikster Is that due to the congestion charge? I drove an automatic using enterprise car share and during my holiday last feb on the west coast of america. It proved very useful on steep San Francisco streets which has stop signs located on very steep sections, the car holds itself. I kept imagining myself rolling back into another car as I hadn't got used to handbrake/clutch throttle method. Because I learned in a diesel and used just the footbrake and clutch method for moving off. In my first car it was a petro manuall which cannot move alone using just the clutch. And so on a few occasions I rolled back slightly or stalled when setting off up a steep hill. Fortunately I got the hang of it and longer have that problem anymore. I remember looking in my centre mirror hoping the car behind has left a big enough gap in case I roll back slightly. That was one of my biggest weaknesses when I passed my test, and it was a first time pass.

EinkOLED you took the words right out my mouth! ULEZ is annoying, I have to travel back and forth for uni so I don’t particularly want to be fumbling around with a clutch and the rage is also mad in London, so stall at a traffic light and they go absolutely mental. I prefer automatic due to the ease of not having to change gears etc, but I do miss driving manual, it was fun to drive but not practical for myself.

I did 4 parralel park's on my lessons. About 10 bay parks. I got the parralel park at beginning of my test and emergency stop straight after.I've done 4 since I passed on 4th August. I use P plates to let people know I'm still learning.

To keep my comments on topic for once though, the parallel park was a pain to learn haha. I was actually not too bad at doing it, however it wasn’t technically correct enough for test standards. I drive an automatic and I would steer the wheel completely to a certain direction and then move off as oppose to steering as I move off which is what the instructor preferred me doing...

As learner I just look at rear wheel if it's right by the keep then will break give some clutch then full lock right and should be in the bay.

I’m changing instructor lol , after seeing how patient everyone else it my guy just like loses it when I stall or something - I feel like he cared more of what other drivers thought of him

Sounds like you should definitely change instructors, mine is really chill with stalling, etc and doesn’t care about what other people think or his own safety, he literally made me go on the motorway in my 3rd hour of driving.

I got told to turn 45 minutes then full lock. But that parks in a wide gap which is ok for a test or if no cars are behind but this is the method I use in real life and it works every single time if your locks are quick.

Hi Matt I am sorry that I’ve spammed these all over your comments but I have had a bunch of questions for you for a while I’d really appreciate if you could answer these. 1. How old are you? 2. How long have you been a driving instructor for and what inspired you to become one? 3. Have you had other careers prior to becoming a driving instructor? 4. What is your favorite fast food place, soda and alcoholic beverage?
