Have to comment with so many others saying this is an easy trail. This is Saints John out of Montezuma. Just did it in my 4Runner. It actually has some very steep parts and bigger rocks-don’t know why they did not show that but a low clearance awd vehicle will struggle. It is not super crazy but I would recommend using/having 4L.

It’s disappointing that Toyota puts 20” wheels on a lot of these and charges you an extra $1300 for them. Styling wise they look better than the stock 18” but who wants 20”s on a vehicle like this?
@GregKittle
@GregKittle 21 күн бұрын
@@Reginald_Harrison I totally hear you, 20" wheels are silly on something that's designed to be driven off road. But to be fair, it's actually bowing to the EPA's insane fuel economy standards. It gets better mileage with 20" wheels so that's what it gets. If I bought one that would be the first thing I would change, along with removing the front air dam that kills your approach angle.
@Reginald_Harrison
@Reginald_Harrison 21 күн бұрын
@@GregKittle How does it get better MPG with the optional 20” compared to the standard 18”? Where are you getting this info? It’s usually the complete opposite. It’ll also cost a lot more money to fit new tires to a 20” wheel.
@GregKittle
@GregKittle 21 күн бұрын
@@Reginald_Harrison great question. I don't know where you're getting your information about it being "the complete opposite," but whoever it was proved their ignorance. It's just basic physics. There are two reasons for why a larger sidewall will reduce your mileage. For one, take two tires with the same diameter, and the one with a larger sidewall will weigh more than the low-profile tire. More rotational inertia means less efficiency. In fact, rotational inertia on your tires/wheels is one of the major things affecting your milage, believe it or not. Second, more sidewall means more rolling resistance since there's more sidewall compression with every rotation. You can look up any of the plethora of videos right here on KZbin that explain these concepts in much more detail than I have space for here, but that's the basic idea.
@Reginald_Harrison
@Reginald_Harrison 21 күн бұрын
@@GregKittle Link me to a good video here on YT. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but all I can find is videos about cars stating the exact opposite e.g. bigger wheel = worse mpg. I can’t find anything about bigger wheel/less tire being more efficient than smaller wheel/more tire. It makes sense assuming the 20” wheel isn’t significantly heavier than the 18”. However, if the 20” wheel is more efficient why would Toyota make the 18” standard? You’d think they’d make the most efficient wheel/tire combo standard to appease the EPA.

Toyota specced those tires because they are cheap, and for fuel economy. Not sure how you can say the dash looks good - it is just super cheap and plasticky looking. Look at the instrument binnacle -it’s horrible. I would get this over the new 4Runner as it is made to much higher standards in Japan. The new 4Runner does not have frame mounted suspension bump stops - like the new Taco - and there already have been failures.

isn't 4H the same as locking the center diff?
@backwoodstherapy
@backwoodstherapy 20 күн бұрын
No. 4Hi just means it's in 4 wheel drive as opposed to 2 wheel drive.(Or 4 auto, where you'll be in 2wd and it gives power to the front wheels as needed). So it's driving with the front and rear diffs at the same time. Locking the center diff means you're distributing the power equally between the front and rear. Many 4 wheel drive systems don't automatically split power 50/50 between the front and rear (it may be 40/60, for example). Locking the center diff ensures it does.
@frontier_etc
@frontier_etc 20 күн бұрын
@@backwoodstherapy I'm under the impression that for most if not all trucks and truck-based SUVs with part time 4WD, putting it in 4WD (4H or 4L) locks the transfer case and splits power 50/50 front and rear
