Driving the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS in the wet was certainly interesting but could it be the best drivers cars ever ? I had just 2 days to get my head around the car that Porsche said they would never make. A Cayman with a GT3 engine in the back and a staggering 9000 rpm redline.
A truly visceral driving experience and a soundtrack to die for. Such as shame only a select few will be able to buy one !

I picked up my GT4RS yesterday after waiting 8 years from deposit! Yes 8 years. The layers of harmonic's from all the KZbin vids I watched don't reproduce on laptops and phones. I can't believe the sounds at low RPM this car is producing (engine break in), it's altogether unique in the auto world of my garage. I have an old high rev V12 & V8 in my garage but this GT4RS is far and away the best of engine entertainment. Great video!! You did a fantastic job talking viewers into the unworldly engine sounds and entertainment you experienced on your drive.

The Sound of that Engine is Glorious!! I do wonder to live with, the GT3 touring would be a better trade off. Also why Porsche only allow certain individuals with GT buying experience to buy one is a really kick in the privates and that lottery winning ticket won't get you one of these is bad! It would put me off buying a Porsche on these grounds and just buy a McLaren ( if I had the money) instead!!

The black exposed carbon bonnet is part of the Weissack Pack. Don’t spec that and it will be body colour 👍

Fantastic car that’s for sure. Saw Harry Metcalfs recent vid where he measured the decibels inside the car. You should use some ear protection at those noise levels. Don’t quite get the huge crack in the rear screen, is that a vibration issue, surely not, so some clumsy sod has done something silly. Why hasn’t Porsche GB changed it out? Don’t think it sends out a good message. You’re braver than me that’s for sure giving it the big un in those conditions and turning off the tc etc. great stuff mat?👍🏻

Hi Pete. Great video - you've come to a similar conclusion to many I think. Have my name on the (no doubt long!) GT4 RS list with my OPC. Currently in a GTS 4.0. Would I buy if I got the chance? Yes, of course - it is the first and last of its kind……. and the ownership financials alone would make sense. Would it make a better car for general road driving than what I am in now - no probably not. For track days and road trips it would be a dream. However, I think the ownership dynamics would be quite different with this as it is such an exclusive car and still haven't quite got my head around what I might feel about that. Keep up the great work. 👍

Wonderful…maybe not every day though. Harry M measured it at 118 decibels which is on the threshold of hearing damage! Impossible to buy now and always will be so most will sit in garages and barely driven….maybe a 911 GTS is more of a reality….in theory! I’m looking forward to the GT3 though…on my “lottery list”! I did plan to “upgrade” the exhaust, but there’s no point in doing so. You wouldn’t hear any improvements inside and actually it sounds very angry from the outside, besides I wouldn’t want to void my warranty either so it stays stock as is, except for Manthey kit coming👌🏻

Be careful!!! I scared the bejesus out of myself when I did the first launch in my GT4RS on cold SC2’s on near freezing tarmac. The engine exploded in a howl and I let go for half a sec as I thought it’d redline and blow the engine, then I realized it held at 7000rpm and floored it half a second later, launch engaged and let the brake go… The car screaming sideways with the rears struggling for grip while I held on for dear life correcting the angle of slide through the steering wheel, both me and my son white with terror as the car went into second still struggling to find grip as we were running out of road. Jesus Christ!! I shouted and dropped the anchors. Full of adrenaline we repeated the procedure a few times and then we both decided taking this deadly beast back to the garage (lair), our bodies shaking with anxiety and joy, agreeing never to try that again on cold autumn roads. Since then I’ve always felt her eyes on me when I walk past her in the garage, like trying to lure me out on the deep end. I’ve never, ever, experienced such an insane car and can’t wait until unleashing her on track days next year. You can all follow our escapades on @viola_gt4rs

I’ve driven all iterations of 911’s, many Ferraris (488, SF90) and Lamborghinis (Gallardo, Huracan) and none of them comes close to the insanity and sheer hooliganism the GT4RS delivers. There’re all just boring in comparison. The GT4RS will go down in history as the end of the road regarding ICE cars.

To live with the GT4 would be a better option. Less hardcore and more refined. However for visceral driving engagement the RS takes some beating 👍

Porsche Leicester has one for £265,000 😮 Shame that pretty much all of these cars will go to collectors and speculators and never be used as designed.
