Another great review from the new guy. Well done mate. Car is epic. It’s the first non-911 I’d consider buying over a 911! GT3 or GT4RS? Tough decision! Cheers/B

I think the GT4RS is more special, will be rarer than the GT3/GT3RS everyone aims at and carries a sense of freshness with it any 911 can’t muster, so without a doubt or second thoughts, I chose the 718 when I for the first time were to buy and spec a brand new Porsche. I’ve never before really looked at Caymans, Boxsters yes, but not Caymans, and after 11 very different iterations from air cooled classics to GT3 and 911 Carrera T, all of which besides a 996 C4 in Tip, of second hand 911s, I’m finally pulling the trigger on the GT4RS and can’t wait for it’s delivery.

Great video - amazing how consistently positive all the reviews of the GT4 RS have been! Hopefully Porsche won't restrict production of this......though perhaps sadly unlikely...?

You can’t get one unless you have a pre existing relationship with Porsche. There was a video done about cars like this, how they exist to sell ‘normal’ cars in the range, of which you’ll need to have brought several in order to get a chance to buy one.

Even if you get an allocation, you still can't escape the dealer markup devil, which totally sucks

@@disarchitected not entirely true. I’m getting one and it’s my first ever new-Porsche purchase after having had 11 very different second hand iterations of 911s over the years. I guess I’m a Porsche customer, certainly a Porsche connoisseur, but not a serial big spender on new Porsche cars. And when I mustered up the will and cash for a new one, it wasn’t even a 911😂

@@993mike no mark up in Europe. It’s illegal over here. Second hand mark ups at dealers, OH YES, but not on new purchases.

Even modern jets have only a 5 point harness...geez 6 point is obsessive...Man those amazing Porsche engineers are incredible aren't they?! This car has coma a long way from the original design by my friend Paul Deutschman from Deutschman Design who designed the very first concept called the Spexter and recently commission him for an anniversary edition. My preference is the more leisurely daily drive of the older Boxster (S) pre 718 with that beautiful 6 cylinder engine. What was Porsche thinking with that 2 liter milk carton anyway?

All these journalists , drive it on track and sing praises , no regular customer can get hands on them even if they are interested due to Dealer markups and mysterious allocations reserved for VIPs etc. I think someone who takes it on a track, will be rewarded but for road it probably is too noisy

Great to see all these “spoilt” motoring journalists who have seen it all going completely berserk over this one. I just hope the lucky first owners actuallly drive them as intended

Track speed satisfaction, sure. But what else for non-racing drivers as many of us are not? I'd take 911 entry model that can be my company on any road any day.

I wouldn’t. Too heavy, too big, don’t sound great and the road noise is truly terrible. Having said all of that, they are aimed at different markets. A 992 gen 911 holds little appeal for me.

From a purely functional perspective, the mid-engine Cayman is a better performer than the 911. Porsche refused to install a LSD into the original Cayman concerned it'd lay waste to the more prestigious 911. Not much point waiting 7 years for this car then seeing it reviewed in the wet. Pretty obvious why Porsche formerly never allowed the Cayman to tread on the toes of the 911- you can't expect GT3 performance in a car costing much less. Now we have the same engine in the GT4RS as the GT3, with exactly the same 0-100kmph and quarter mile times, with the GT4RS a FULL second faster 0-200kmph (which no reviewer has picked up). And Porsche is saying if you want this GT3 type performance, you need to pay for it, and you will have to. But if you don't take the unnecessary and overkill Weissach package and dont take the magnesium wheels which dont look as good as the standard ones, then you are getting good value. A major selling point will be the epic interior intake sound, much more dramatic than the GT3, which James doesn't seem to notice with his helmet on.

p.s. pretty clever of Porsche - deliver the ultimate ICE Cayman before turning that car into a hybrid or pure EV. So, very briefly, it is finally competition for the 911, without cannibalising 911 sales longer term.

@@edjack1993 Nope the GT3 has wider track front and rear because it uses a wider body and the much better front double wishbone suspension and mulitlink rear suspension, the best current suspension layout compared to the much older and not as effective mcpherson struts front and rear of the Gt4rs. Micha Charoudin at the Nuburgring gives a good analysis comparing the lap times of the GT3 and the Gt4Rs on youtube and those suspension benefits and wider track make all the difference....

I think the ACTUAL ring times are just a hair faster than the GT3 but Porsche is still feeling obligated to protect it . . . shame on you Porsche

I don't necessarily think that this is faster. The GT3 has more aero, wider wheels and tyres and a more sophistcated suspension setup with double wishbones in the front and rear wheel steering

Gt3 dynamics will just demolish this car ...!!Racetrack times are about suspension, steering, aero ,tyres,even engine mounts....not about engine noises !!!

@@khaledali-di9mt exactly, and those are all the same attributes/components shared between this car and the GT3. Seems the only major difference between the two is weight which raises my suspicion even more about the TRUE lap times on the ring... I'm trusting my gut feeling on this one. Porsche is hiding the ACTUAL ring' time vs. the GT3

@@danielwatts9803 No ....that's absolutely not right....gt3 share only some parts but not all the parts because : -Gt3 has wider rear tyres -Gt3 has front double whishbone suspension while this has only mcpherson setup which is a big advantage -Gt3 has rear wheel steering which is a huge advantage -Gt3 active engine mounts are stiffer -Gt3 has eLSd while this one has mechanical lsd only -Gt3 has more than double the downforce Gt3 will destroy the cayman GT4rs on any racetrack (long or short )and the laptimes are legit !!!..... Gt3 is the true race car for the road,and it is the real deal !!

I love everyone defending the GT3, but keep in mind that the top-level race car - the GT3 RSR - uses a mid-engine Cayman tub! I've got a very long-time buddy who works for Porsche Motorsports North America and gave me the details. The ultimate would be a GT3 with the new front wishbones, bigger tires and rear steer with the mid-engine of the GT4, and Porsche knows it because they built it!

We never dreamt that they (Porsche) would build it. Indeed. And they've built it in tiny numbers, are selling it at a vastly over inflated premium to collectors who are just going to store them as investments and you will never see one on the road ever. So they (Porsche) should probably not have bothered building them. Just another rich man's ornament.

The problem are the dealers, if they ask for a mark-up, report them to Porsche AG. There is no production limitation intended. At present it is more of a missing parts issue.
