Trees have nothing to do with it. He didn't stop at all. A loaded truck from a stop would have been crawling through that intersection. Where they ended up and the damage indicates great speed.

my cousin Glen was the bus driver...my name is Dennis Doerksen... thanks for making this video...the truck didnt stop...the bus tboned the 1st trailer... at 1st i had some compansion for the truck driver but i dont now... all i will say..

interesting. I don't see the problem. You approach a stop sign you stop. Looks pretty simple here. i was under the impression it was some crazy intersection. But looks pretty normal.

I drive trucks myself going thru intersections like this many times. There's nothing wrong with this intersection. It got a stop sign with flashing warning lights. The trees are out of the equation if you stop at the stop sign. This intersection hasn't have any accident since 1997 until last Friday. Based on what I see. I could mean a couple things since the bus obviously hit the back portion of the trailer leaving the trucker unharmed. scenario one. Trucker is distracted ran the stop sign. scenario 2. trucker stopped misjudged the distance and speed of the coming bus. He decided to cut across hope to make it before the bus arrived. The bus couldn't stop in time because it was going 100km/hr. There are many of these intersections like this one across Canada. Rumble strip is probably the best or cut down trees and say you did something about it. Either way, it's a horrific accident, sad sad day for our nation

It doesn't matter if you can or can't see past the damn trees there is a stop sign. You stop.
@abbywaples12876 жыл бұрын
What is with all the comments regarding the trees? Do the trees impair the drivers view 500m away? Yes. Do the trees impair the drivers view when stopped at the stop sign? NO. This happened because the driver of the truck did not stop. He could see perfectly well past those trees, he just didn’t stop where he should of.

Wish you would have shown how far down the road on the left you can see instead of a picture of the crash. Looks to me like you can see fine as long as you actually stop like you re supposed to

Ashley Andrade driving into a setting sun it's easy to be blinded enough to not see a stop sign. That's all this is, simple dynamics tell us that the trucker was going one way, bus another they met at the corner. Also easy to figure out why the trucker missed seeing the sign.

There are tens of thousands of intersections like this all over Canada. Hell, this one was an exception with the flashing red stop light. Stop at a stop sign, end of story.
@harleysrocknrollchat6 жыл бұрын
The trees are cut far enough back from the road. If you stop at the stop sign, you have clear line of site both directions. The ONLY way the trees are an issue, is if you run the stop sign.

This should be a 4 stops intersection.

The big questions is why have they not released the name of the truck driver, why did they just question him and then release him? Why are they protecting the driver.

First off : Rest In Piece to all the lives lost. Second : Hopefully the trucker mans up and confesses. Third : You should really look into recording meditation audio cassettes.

They should have rumble strips and like speed zones before the stop signs, just like the schools do, that makes one slow down and stop.

If the truck driver is using the 'sun in his eyes' as an excuse for missing the stop sign, it's still not good enough. If the sun was truly in his eyes...he should have driven accordingly. Just as if it was foggy. You don't drive at speed in fog if you vision impaired just as if the sun was in your eyes. You don't go barreling down a highway if you can't see. In my opinion the sun was not the case. He either was in a trance as in 'white line fever' and missed the stop sign or was playing with the Devil and ran the stop sign because of laziness. Either way I don't feel sorry for this truck driver. Most of them are a bunch of hacks. From my 30 years experience of professional driving motor coach. He must pay the price behind bars for a very long long time for the innocent lives he took.

Reason why truck driver not charged yet is they have to make sure, 100% that no other potential cause arise from this accident. If they charge him now and defense lawyer brings up a doubt with regards to another cause of the accident, that is enough to have this man go free. Must eliminate all possible causes, dot all the i's and t's, which would leave only possible reason that human negligence was the cause. Then arrest him in which he has no defense to fall back on. The authorities know this but they need to do their homework properly so they can get a conviction out of this.

Very sad, pray for them.... And meantime, Thanks for the video, I agree with your observation, we need to do something on this intersection, I think it should change to a four way stop (with flash light to raise driver’s attention on all directions) , so it can give the north bound driver a chance to stop and make sure it is safe. I usually feel very uncomfortable to cross an intersection with high speed without a clear view like this one.

Thankyou for this video, I did not find out about this crash till early Sunday morning from a resident at a nursing home that I work at here in Elizabethtown New York. My Dad brought me and our family through that area in Canada, Aug 1979, I was 16 that year. I had not been feeling good all day April 7 Saturday. I have this intuition feeling I get when there is something drastically wrong somewhere. Be it in my own family,,,,, cousins that are still left, or my own 5 boys, ages 31, 30, 21, 20, and 18. I was thinking it was my second son, Terry, but I didn't want to make him mad,,,,, he hates it when I get this feeling and start checking, calling them to see if they are ok, he calls me a witch. I am not, I Sooooo totally believe in God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit. For some reason, By Monday, I was obsessed with this story, I keep getting pulled back to it, why? ,,,,,, the boys keep "calling"to me. They keep saying,,,,, "look at us" ,,,,,, "We were not ready, to go !!!!" I keep telling them, "stay with ur coach,,,,,, he will get u there safely,,,,, forever u r with him. It is o.k. to be scared." These boys, these poor babes, my heart forever aches for them, I will always be here for them, whenever their spirits want to talk. 👍😎 Much love to them, and the men who went with them, to help them to the next transition to their next lives 💖💖💖💖😂

Driving in Saskatchewan is risky, very easy to be blinded by various weather conditions. Any mistake can end in tragedy. Entering a highway with even the best intentions can be scary especially if your driving a vehicle with a weak engine like a V4. It does take at least 8 seconds to reach highway speeds for most cars,

Horrible tragedy that could easily happen to anyone, known fact that with our climate, poor road conditions driving is risky in rural areas, especially winter season. The issue/ eventual legal outcome will define the character of the province. Already racism & outright greed is becoming a reality. The family that is in the process of creating a massive lawsuit is doing a mistake in regards to public opinion. Most people do face tragedy with dignity & no massive emotional or financial go-fund me charity support. Nobody in Saskatchewan would dare offer support if this bus was Native hockey players. The greed to sue is an insult to many people everywhere. We have to realize this young immigrant truck driver will indeed suffer a life of turmoil.
