It's not an after-market body kit - it is, as far as I know, the standard factory V8 Vantage body of the time. It wouldn't be fair, obviously, to call you ignorant - and anyway, ignorant isn't the slur people build it up to be: it just means you don't know stuff - but this is one of the early Vantages, and the Vantage modifications became incorporated into the design of the car as opposed to being bolt-on parts with the introduction of the Oscar India cars in October 1978. Of course, the GKN-Sankey wheels are a non-standard colour, but period correct x

It's not a Vantage. It's a regular V8 Auto, with factory kit that was usually reserved for the Vantage.

if you look at Town's DBS, it was a beefing up of the DBS design, and I think the DBS arrived circa 1968 ish@@raymondthomadwormald9621 Paul White

@@raymondthomadwormald9621 Perhaps. Who knows what went through the mind of William Towns as he penned the original DBS back in the '60s. Undoubtedly the Mustang was big news when it launched in '64, and it's not impossible that it might have been an influence. The V8 is an evolution of the DBS, triggered by David Brown's sale of Aston Martin to Company Developments Ltd in 1972. I think the original Mustang would have been considered old hat by then, having been superceded by the admittedly stunning Mach 2.

Freddie seems to be one of the most genuinely likeable KZbinrs in the automotive sector. An absolute barn find dream team of Jonny Smith and Tavarish. Edit: Forgot to mention the Aston. What a machine that is. Black on Black on Black. Thuggish and square jawed English brutishness. I rarely lust after Aston’s but I love this one. A serious case of Iwantitus.

I once rebuilt a classic Aston V8 engine for a really good friend of mine. I did it for nothing ( the labour, he paid for the parts ) just for the chance to work on something so awesome. I'm pretty sure that the rebuild kit for one of the carburettors cost more than whatever four wheeled heap I was driving at the time. When it was done he had a brass plate engraved for the engine bay with my name on it and the rebuild date, which was an outstanding thank you on his part. Nice to see Tavarish, he's a very likeable character, as is Jonny.

We are going to try. Everything is so expensive. The rebuild kit from Aston was £100 per carb! Found a 4 carb kit in Germany for Maserati (same carbs) for £150. The fuel filter was £25! Needs a master cylinder hence the leisurely speed on last clip… god knows how much that will be to replace or refurbish… but, we have no plans to sell… even though one of our KZbin barb finders offered to buy it there and then…

Jonny for future reference Never Never Use The Choke ,just start it by way of the accelerator pumps . Why you ask ,well these have a bad habit of sticking on even when the choke is pushed fully home and bore wash will kill that engine as soon as look at it. Glad that the late owners boys got it running better, the first time I tuned one I had it running with the air box off as in the film, the owner came to see how it was going and I showed him what had been done, then opened the tap a bit he jumped back in surprise and looked somewhat startled, then said now I know why the sodding thing only does five to the gallon, wonderful cars Thankyou for letting us see it . The CLOSEST my family got to own one of those was my Uncle, who, bought the 'Aston Martin V8 Vantage' body kit (DMS/Bullet) for his Ford Capri 2.8i !! 😉🤣🤣 He tried to source the actual A.M. body parts as needed, like rear lights, grill, badges, wheels etc etc to give it more of an authentic 'Feel' to it, he even worked on the interior to bring that more in line with the real V8. In the end, it was one of the better kit forms of Capri/Aston - Vantage V8s. And it looked ACE! One of his previous projects was doing a full resto on a Sunbeam Alpine (I also loved that car!) Oh them were the days, school summer holidays watching (and occasionally helping) my Dad work with my Uncle on his projects... 👍😏 😎🇬🇧

Bit worried about the end used on the Karcher initially as that is the aggressive wand that will take the paint off and strip it down to the metal if left in one place too long. Good for removing stickers and decals along with moss off a patio. Lovely video and Freddie is a true car guy.

I guess the power washer was probably just on site and I thought exactly the same thing as yourself, was fine to be using the Vario Lance in first shot but when I saw the Cone tipped dirt blaster I was a little concerned 🫣.

Wow, great to see Tavarish getting out and about in UK with TLBS! What a beauty of an Aston, love it! Just my 2c, don't use a wire brush to clean plugs, it will leave traces of metal on the ceramic and can cause shorting there and bad spark. Only use parts cleaner/solvent with plastic bristles.

HELLO Jonny & Freddie, so good to see you get this faboulas car running, what a special moment for the famiuly too! Watched till the ned, seeing the work done to put the car back where it shold be; on the road, and to be used in the memory of the father. WONDERFUL!! Best wishes from Lincolnshire

Great video, evoking many happy memories. I had a 1976 AM V8 that was updated to Vantage spec a few years after the Vantage became available (1977 I believe). The update parts were available from the factory and the car you revived looks like it received a partial cosmetic update as the wheels should have been changed to the wider BBS rims, and the bonnet intake plug should have been fared in seamlessly. I can well understand why the owner held onto this car and only wish I still had mine.

Never thought I'd hear "Dude, that thing runs!" on a barnfind 😅 Great show, great car, super family, the one thing sadly missing is an interview with the Dad, which I'm sure would have been fascinating.

Phwoar, when that Aston was on song, it was wonderful . You and Tavarish are such a great team. Loved every minute of this episode. My favourite car, and some of my favourite KZbinrs. Just brilliant ❤

Let out an audible moan when I saw the reveal. I think my housemate heard. 😳 You were spot on when you said it looked so tough, but it was before my time, so I never really knew much about them before now. Thanks for always bringing such a diverse range of vehicles to my attention, and the humans behind them.

Great episode and love the back story. Personally, I loved the standard V8 before the vantage. No spoilers, open bonnet vent and grille. It would be nice for this car to be brought back to standard.

That was a very cool episode Johhny. Freddie was great too. I reckon the late owner would be honoured to see you guys giving some love to his cherished car. I totally get it because I have something very similar but in the form of a 99 BMW E36 M3 Anniversary Edition which I've owned for just over 15 years now and Even though I rarely drive it, I still keep it registered and perfectly maintained. I'm lucky to do 20 klms per year in it, lol..
