Welcome to our very first episode of Built2Wander with Colin Coates.
In our initial episode we are going to compare a bone stock Jeep Wranger JL vs. the modified Triton JL. We go over things like tire size, lift options, clearance, departure angles, track width, driveline upgrades and much much more to illustrate the benefits of a stock vs. modified Jeep.
If you're thinking about upgrading your Jeep Wrangler and not sure what direction to take it, this is the episode for you. Make sure you watch before you start wrenching.
If you have any questions about the build for us, drop them in the comments and let us know.

Air out your tires some for offroading for better traction

Damn after watching this do you regret pumping thousands into the Triton only to have it slightly more capable than a stock Rubicon? That stock Rubi was impressive and to be honest made the Triton look pretty bad.

I think a lot has to do with them for some reason not airing down, you have huge tires, you have the beadlocks to support the air down

It's not that the vehicle itself isn't capable... He can't even find the limits of a stock rubicon, let alone that thing on 40s... He doesn't know how to drive off road.

Give me an Xj on 35’s and I’ll walk those 40” wranglers for a fraction of the cost to build lol man 2nd time around and I have to say.. I’d be pissed if I dropped all that money into reductions gear to get shown up by a stocker lol. The only thing you did better or easier then the stocker was break over angle. That’s simply just tire size cs wheelbase.. but in terms of going up those rocks the appearance is you struggled more then the stocker lol. Driver mod or waste of money 🤔

My issue with this type of video is if your comparing the two,,i want to see the same camera angle, same line drivin with each vehicle. So its easy to see actual differences.

nice jeeps, my observation over last couple of decades is big and bigger tires are just paving the way to offroad parks - did the rubicon on 33s couple years ago in a early wrangler - it was exciting, terrifying and rewarding to make it to the end - dont see the point in just driving over it where boulders become speed bumps .. on the hard rock terrain it goes unnoticed but in mud regions ridicules size tire trenches become obstacles lol - given the choice and the future of being able to visit the outback without facing trail closures id take the stock rubi hands down

I owned a stock 2007 2dr Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and I honestly believe it is the most capable stock factory vehicle. If you think about what you get for your money it's truly the best bang for your buck. My 2007 Jeep Rubicon cost me right at $32,000 brand new and for that price you get brand new Jeep Rubicon with both hard and soft tops 4 wheel drive, front and rear lockers, front and rear Dana44 axles, a super low first gear (mine was a 5 speed manual transmission) 33in Goodyear mud terrain and a disconnecting sway bar. Whit that being said that is why the Rubicon is the best. Also it's great because it comes from the factory that way so the keep his still covered by warranty which you would not get if you was to build a Rubicon from a stock base jeep. The only thing I added that most others also do was a 4"or6" long arm suspension lift. Other then that and/or without that your jeep will keep up with if not do better than some stock base heaps with modifications. Jeep Rubicon #1 in my book.

I really like the smaller Pioneer Platform for the Rhino Rack! What are the specs? Was it a bolt on option? You do a great job on your Jeep builds; 50 Shades was a great inspiration for my JKUR.
@Built2Wander
@Built2Wander 4 жыл бұрын
That is great to hear! The smaller rack is coming to market with an option that requires no modifications but as of right now all you have to do is drill one hole on the underside of each side of the rack so that you can move the cross bar about an inch and a half to mount up to the backbone mount. The smaller rack allows us to run the Bestop sunrider without interfering with the rack itself.

Probably want to gear to ...maybe 5:13 or more. I dunno if 4:88 would cover it w/ those DAna 60's and 40's. I have 35's and Stock Rubicon 4:10 gears which suits me fine...may go to 4:88 on 37's...or 5:13. I also have a 4" lift and 1310 Adams drive shafts and a mid arm kit though and I daily drive mine and Rock crawl it. Lots to consider. Think about what you are going to do with it first. If youaren;t using it as a daily driver and have a money tree out back you can burn through....go crazy and use the best parts you can find.

How tall is the triton for garage height? Rubicon is all I would need but I want that triton. Great video!
4 жыл бұрын
It's all good but the price of a Rubicon and now, of course I'm guessing, but it's possibly another 30 thousand so around 50 thousand for the jeep and adding another 30 thousand or more is 80 thousand dollars or more. Some one has some serious sponsors paying for it all or more money then I got. I'd like to see some good but reasonable upgrades that the average guy can have and maybe ways around the high end prices that if purchased aren't crap. They need be an asset instead a piece of junk that'll break apart a week after it was purchased.

@@Built2Wander Why did you only air the stock jeep down to 30psi? Should've had them both at the same psi...the 40" tire jeep performed very underwhelming...especially considering it probably had an additional $30k dumped into it.

This was my first attempt at putting together a vlog episode, so to be honest I didn’t do a great job showing the shortfalls of the stock JLU compared to the Triton on 40s. Maybe down the road I will revisit this and do a better job at showing the differences. The builds are night and day comparably speaking and we are able to run much tougher trails in the Triton that the stock JLU would otherwise have no chance on.

The front suspension cycles beautifully but the rear is a bit over sprung. We are working through a few kinks but have plans to swap to a slightly shorter coilover in the rear with some softer springs and we are also going to change up the control arm brackets on the rear axle to free up some bind in the track bar. Once we are finished it should flex really well!
