I envy off-road community enthusiasts who live out west in places like Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and California. Lots of WIDE OPEN spaces, off-road trails, and, while it does snow in certain parts, it's often only in higher elevations and the states are not known for salting (the hell) out of the roads. Here, in the northeast wide open spaces are relatively rare and a 2006 vintage vehicle here, is very likely to have an undercarriage that is rusted to hell. When they put road salt down up here, it's like it's shot out of a grain harvester.
@j-g94633 жыл бұрын
Yeah here in NYC they oversalt like crazy….I guess it leads to less accidents or lawsuits for the city. I picked up a used GX460 that only has a bit of surface rust. I don’t know of any trails in the area but every now and then I drive down to Texas and enjoy the openness out there.

GX460 always had a touchscreen, so it was not just introduced for 2022. It's a new touchscreen but not a new concept. And they didn't leave a TouchPad because it didn't have a TouchPad before. One thing I do not like about the GX is the brake system, I feel like it’s too weak for such heavy truck, once I wear off the current brakes I’ll upgrade to higher performance brakes. Thanks for your great review with in my opinion some of the most capable and reliable vehicles in the market for both of them. I had a Toyota LC 150 GX for my job (in some markets LC GX is the top model with KDSS, mid lockers, rear lockers, crawl control and reliable air suspension at the rear axel). With air suspension and a tow hitch from Arctic truck the LC GX models were approwed for 7.700 lbs towing (3,5 ton). Even if we had some capable offroaders in my job like the old Defender 90 with three lockers before, I'm surpriced of the LC crawling in low range up long hillside trials in aprox one foot deep wet snow, ofcourse with new proper Nokian wintertires. Now we have sold it because I'm not allowed to drive after I became disabled and bedridden from a vaccine 3,5 years ago. If I ever should recover at least enough to be allowed to drive again, I would love to find an old Lexus GX 470 or the twin brother LC 120 model with their reliable diesel engine, and aprox 250.000 km at the clock. Thanks for your great review, with best wishes from Norway.

I have a 2006 Lexus GX470 and I am running BFG KO2s. Its the real deal guys. We had a 99 inches of snow last season and here's what I learned....ATRAC was great but there were times that I had to use the center diff lock to get all the wheels spinning. However, sometimes in deep snow, the center diff lock would just sink the car and get it high centered. If the snow got deep, I just let the AWD ATRAC keep it from sinking, and it would try its best. Ours has 250k miles and it has been bullet proof, except for the air bag leveling system which broke a few years ago. We added some after marked shocks for $500, problem solved. Also, a used GX470 is probably much cheaper than a 4Runnner.

If both cars were the same price I’d stil go with the gx470 regardless if they were new or used. Nicks right about not wanting to abuse a newer 460 because of how much more lavish it is. I would be scared to take it off road and putting it through intense situations for how much it costs. I bought my 06 470 with 180k miles and aside from having to replace the tires and swapping out the air ride to coils and springs the car needed nothing l. It rides like a brand new car. My neighbor has one with almost 570k miles on his despite somehow only changing the timing belt twice since he bought it brand new. The 470 is hands down more of a rugged brolic type of truck

WRONG comments regarding the "balljoints" in the upper control arms. Total Chaos uses the PTFE Coated Spherical Bearings. They are not meant to be lubricated with petroleum grease or WD40. If there's an issue with squeaking, that means that the teflon coating has already been damaged. With regard to maintenance, only a PTFE dry lubricant is recommended for the FK Bearings. It's sprayed over the exposed portion of the spherical bearing to wash out debris. If you're going into areas with a lot of dirt and mud, it's recommended to go with a sealed option like the Icon Delta Joint, JBA UCA with a sealed balljoint, or Camburg with the cab. At lease then that way debris stays out from gravity.

Cool video. I feel the GX470 is the better looking vehicle, but am impressed which the combination of luxury and off-road ability of both.

The factory recommended tire pressure for the 460 is 32 PSI. Not mid 40s

The 470 had improvements, similar improvements on 460 would have made it better. Nice Vid showing the KDSS, versus no KDSS. The engines seem comparable.

I'd love to see a Rav4 Adventure or TRD Offroad on your test hill.

So would we. Waiting for Toyota to send them back to fleet. Currently the pickings are slim.
