Just discovered you. Great video. I have prediabetes and antibodies to Type 1 diabetes. I follow mostly plant based diet, which is minimally processed., and low carb. The challenge is loss of weight. I now weigh 92 pounds. Your videos will help me in my goals, to prevent slipping into full diabetes, and maintaining a healthy weight. I love your enthusiasm, thank you

Bev, here is the thing to know in your case. You are not a pure type 2 diabetic, neither are you a full blown type 1. You are in between - type 1.5 because of those antibodies. What that means is, someone like you will need s small dose of daily insulin otherwise you'll continue to lose weight and your family will be getting worried about you. See your doctor to have a chat about this please. But continue to eat plant-based

This is amazing information. I managed to reverse my type 2 in my last but one hba1c. Then when I encountered a period of stress unfortunately I was up a few points taking my into type 2 ( only slightly ) . I've been avoidant of getting my next one done as I'm awaiting surgery for removal of pleomorphic adenoma ( biopsied as non malignant thank God). Still I am now result vigilant and looking for ways to keep on top of things so that my next hba1c will be fine. I never had to take medication. But avoidance of testing can creep in. I had no idea stress can cause raised blood sugar levels. Here on this journey for life. Soaking in the truly wonderful content . I am on board although my diabetes has been reversed about two years ago. Missing my fruits though. This teaching will help me tremendously to live free or diabetes for ever. Thank you a million times. I am now on chapter 4 of your book and would encourage anyone reading this to get a copy. I love the historical background of how coffee came about. I learnt amongst other things how St John’s wort, bitter lemon and even some prescription meds were stuff to avoid plus many more. Keep up the good works. May God continue to bless you. All vegetables, all become sugar in your body. Go keto or better go carnivore. I reversed my type two and no more pre diabetes either. Now normal A1C 5.4
@drjoetvMD
@drjoetvMD Жыл бұрын
@@stony2494 And guess what? Your body actually prefers to use sugar (glucose) for its energy needs. Not fat. Hence your body will want to get rid of the fat first if you present it with sugar and fats together. Hence it abandons the glucose leaving you with high blood sugar and high insulin levels because it is preoccupied with the fat. Then you complain that your body doesn't deal with sugar very well. Stop giving it fats and it will do what it loves to do - burn glucose

Dr. Joe, Thank you for sharing these wonderful dietary ideas to help combat diabetes. But I am still confused about how to apply these suggestions. For example, do we eat exclusively only these non-starchy vegetables for week 1? Should one’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner consist only of these vegetables and nothing else? Also, Do you suggest salads, smoothies, or the cooked variety of these vegetables in our meals? Finally, which are the starchy type of vegetables to avoid to make this diet work for on in week 1? Some clarity on how to go about meals from your diet suggestions will be helpful. I am in the dark as how to go about this. Thank you 🙏
@drjoetvMD
@drjoetvMD Жыл бұрын
Keep eating whatever you are currently eating. It's a step-wise approach. All we are doing this week is ADD Non-starchy above-ground vegetables to your current diet. So your task is to give these veggies a priority on your plate. Give them plenty of room on your plate. And you can have them any how you wish. Plus we are removing the fruits for now. They will be back later. Got it?

Hello Dr. Joe, thank you for your valuable information about healthy eating. The way I approach this is by lifestyle changes on top of my current lifestyle which I love i.e. practicing Intermittent fasting. The challenge here is to eat a colander worth of greens plus other rainbow colors of vegetables in my daily diet, considering the time-restricted meal plan. My huge concern is whether will I be able to get them all in before I even get full. Secondly, my grocery list will get longer and my shopping frequency will also be more from now on. Unless I can learn how to keep my produce last longer in the fridge. I take it as a challenge and I appreciate your guidance.

Anyone who follows what I promote on this channel religiously will have low cholesterol levels. I can vouch for that. I teach what I do. My last Total Cholesterol reading was 120 mg/dl with an LDL cholesterol of 69 mg/dl. This was 6 months ago, it could even be lower today. This is where I want you folks to be. If you have levels like this, there is no reason why you should be taking any Big Pharma pills. Totally pointless taking pills with fantastic cholesterol readings. There is a reason we do what we do. To come off pills. Your doctor must see sense in stopping your medication

I will get notified about all queries, don't you worry about that. Anyway, my humble opinion about collagen supplements is that they are a lot of hype. Collagen supplements don't do much for joint pains no matter what the sellers will claim. It's all hype. Joint pain requires you to find out why you are having the pain in the first place because there is Rheumatoid Arthritis which is an autoimmune problem where your body is reacting against itself and there is Osteoarthritis which is where the bone is rubbing against the bone. Both are treated differently. Rheumatoid arthritis requires tackling the autoimmune problem. What I tell people who have arthritis is do two things first of all. Stop all dairy. Yes cut out all dairy foods. Second thing is cut out all forms of sugar and that includes honey, agave syrup, maple syrup, table sugar etc. Why because they have fructose and fructose is highly inflammatory and just makes arthritis worse. Those simple two things when done thoroughly are enough in some cases to help with arthritis. Plus of course adding some exercise if possible. The other thing is people have responded very well to Turmeric and Moringa. Lots of people have written to me about those two natural products helping their arthritis a lot. If you think you still want to have collagen supplements, you MAY go ahead but don't expect dramatic results from them. They are more hype than anything else. Hope that helps

Oh I should add that some people (not everyone) improve their arthritis symptoms when they take out Nightshade foods off their menu. This tip is individualistic not generic but it's worth a try

Hi Sir , Besides the non starchy vegetables that you teach about, can we eat rice, quinoa, buckwheat etc...or we can only eat vegetables and drink water? Thann you.
@drjoetvMD
@drjoetvMD Жыл бұрын
This is a step by step process. This is just Week 1. There are 7 more weeks to go. So all you need to do in Week 1 is keep doing whatever you were doing but we will add to whatever you are currently eating. What are we going to add? Above-ground non-starchy vegetables. Make them a priority. Give them plenty of space on your plate going forward. We are however taking fruits off the menu for now this week too. And the process moves on to week 2.

I do have a newsletter but I have not been able to sustain writing weekly content. I like to give my all in everything I do but it's just not possible as I also work full time as a medical doctor. So yes, the newsletter is there but my subscribers are not getting served as they should, hence it is pointless I give you the web address to subscribe. There are only 24 hours in a day sadly. I wish there were more hours...

You may want to reframe your premise. I know the official term is glucose tolerance, but that term implies that the body needs to tolerate something that is innately bad or toxic to us. This would mean that your strategy would make us immune from the harmful effects of carbs. This premise also suggests that ideally, we should minimize or eliminate consumption of carbs. I know this is clearly not your thesis, but like my ex used to tell me, "It's not what you say, it's how you say it."
@drjoetvMD
@drjoetvMD 5 ай бұрын
There is absolutely no need to reframe what I said. It's glucose tolerance and yes, all the cells in your body need to be responsive to the glucose coming from your food. That's what glucose tolerance is because in the end the carbohydrate-rich food you eat will be broken down to glucose in the end. And No, glucose is not bad for you. Your body is designed to run on glucose with fat as back up. I know the keto folks would like to give glucose a bad name but take it from me, glucose is not bad for you. It's only bad for you if you are intolerant to it because of insulin resistance. Glucose inside the cells of your body is not toxic to you. It's glucose in the blood that cannot find its way into the cells that is toxic. Your job as an individual is to make it easy for your cells to soak up the glucose from the blood circulation. The ability of your cells to do that successfully is by definition is glucose tolerance and being able to do that easily is insulin sensitivity. Makes sense?

@@drjoetvMD Smoothies and salads it is. The fiber should help to clean out my arteries. I started on Ozempic the same day I started week one. I have no appetite at all, so I eat in a 4 or 6 hour window. Earlier this year I started drinking 2 quartz of fresh squeezed orange juice daily. After 4 days my glucose was over 600 and my A1C was 12. I forgot fruit had natural sugar. That's when I found out I had diabetes. They put me on 5 units of insulin with meals that I barely take and a daily slow acting shot of insulin. I barely take that either. I've been struggling ever since. My glucose averages around 130. My A1C is 9.8 now, still terrible. I don't eat sweets, bread, pasta, or rice. Sometimes I eat vegan for months at a time. I would love to be able to eat the same meal plan that you follow. I'm going to work your 6 week plan to reverse this diabetes and be your biggest success story. My name is Fay.
