I absolutely love how you explain everything. I have watched so many videos on thyroid, and I’m getting just the basic understandings of it. But when I watch your videos, it’s worded in such a way that the lightbulb goes off and I get it now. Maybe it’s the patience that you have for explaining everything, but you truly are helping people. Thank you for what you do!

Happened to me. Ferritin was 25 ug/ml. I take 20mg Heme iron in the morning with 2mg copper and 500mg Whole Food Vitamin C (not just Ascorbic acid) for cerruloplasm I was taking almost 60mg of zinc for many months to boost immune system but it blocked my copper from food. Symptoms were fatigue, anxiety, cold hands, etc. After a few days feelign much better.

This was so helpful! I had no idea iron/ferritin levels and thyroid were connected. I’ve had low ferritin for years, and after pressing my doctor who said there was nothing wrong with me, I got it tested and was at a 9 😬 he finally admitted I was iron deficient, go figure. Ive also had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. I’ve been taking organ supplements and betaine Hcl and my numbers are rising 😊 can’t wait to feel normal again!

Very helpful video Dr. Kate! I recently got my blood work done and ferritin was 17.3 μg/l, TSH 0.28 mIU/l and vitamin D 69.1 nmol/l. I have felt very fatigued recently and also brain fog. I have now taken iron supplements (Ferrous bisglycinate) for few days but they cause nausea and constipation. What would you recommend? Also greetings from Estonia!

Hi! You could try taking your ferrous bisglycinate every-other day, with a high-fiber meal, and add digestive enzymes to make sure it breaks down properly (to avoid the nausea/constipation). More details in my ferritin checklist: www.drkateld.com/ferritin-checklist-signup

This is spot on for me. I am a 58 year old guy but started feeling fatigued and more anxious last Fall and it got really bad during the holidays especially in regards to sleep. My CBC results were in the mid normal but I paid to get a vitamin B test and it included an iron panel and everything was low normal but Ferritin of 25 ug/ml and B12 of 1483. I started taking 20mg Heme iron every morning with 2mg copper for cerruloplasmin. I have low stomach acid that I treat with Betaine HCL and Apple Cider vinegar plus I was taking a tom of Zinc since COVID started. My theory was that the Zinc was blocking iron and copper absorption plus low stomach acid also contributed to be not getting minerals from foods. I also started taking liquid ionic minerals (magnesium, copper, zinc, and calcium) too. This week my B12 was around 800 and my Ferritin was 61 ug/ml. I have more energy and my sleep and anxiety are better. My hair thinned alot and it has stopped shedding as much. My target is 100 ug/ml and hopefully my hair will start regrowing. The low ferritin definitely caused me to become hypothyroidal.

I should add that my thyroid WAS perfectly functioning, but I donated blood six times in 14 months and it destroyed my ferritin and thus, my thyroid. In short, will it come back on it's own once the ferritin is restored?

Likely, months, not weeks. If ferritin was that low for that long, it could take awhile for the thyroid function to return. Sorry that happened, but keep pressing forward!

I had necrotising fasciitis in 2013 - 2 big ops and a huge open wound that took 10 months and another op to close. I wasn’t given a blood transplant as my blood loss left me just above the minimum threshold (UK practice) I was given 3 months of iron tablets, but since then, my Ferritin has struggled between 14 & 21 and I have had symptoms of anaemia on and off while having normal haemoglobin/ serum.iron. Is it possible that the blood loss caused this deficiency that I have never recovered from. I was subsequently dx with Hypothyroidism and I have RRMS. XX
@DrKateLyzengaDean
@DrKateLyzengaDean Ай бұрын
That sounds like a terrible ordeal - so sorry you had to go through this. It is not only possible but likely that blood loss is one of the root causes for your current deficiency - but I'm also suspicious that the antibiotics you used could've caused microbiome problems that may also be contributing to your lack of recovery in terms of ferritin!
