This video introduces the example of the guided imagery exercise "The Ideal Parent Figure Protocol" developed by Dr. Dan Brown and David Elliot and found in their textbook "Treating Adult Attachment Disturbances."
It is meant to help heal childhood trauma and attachment disturbances as an intervention that relies upon our imagination of our initial attachment figures.
Please consider using it as an example of a guided meditation intervention to demonstrate the powerful techniques we can use in therapy, and in research proven mindfulness and meditation type therapies to heal and manage our nervous systems, stories and attachment wounds.
THE GUIDED IMAGERY EXERCISE: IDEAL PARENT FIGURES PROTOCOL WILL BE IN THE NEXT VIDEO AS A STAND ALONE VIDEO SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO HEAR MY INTRO EACH TIME!

HEALING ATTACHMENT WOUNDS SERIES:
This series begins with understanding the primary issues around Attachment Theory and healing Attachment Styles, and will then go deeper into issues around Attachment wounds and related trauma and relationship issues.
I will be posting daily 5 to 10 minute videos after this one on Healing Attachment Wounds and Understanding Attachment Styles and Relationships, as well as tying these topics where appropriate to Complex Trauma, and challenging childhoods and parenting.
Many of you are already very familiar with Attachment, so I hope to add some additional research and topics you will find helpful, and potentially new ways of understanding yourself and life.
While we cannot fully heal attachment wounds without being in relationship with others, these videos will be providing some exercises you can use to enhance your healing journey.
I am so passionate about the relationships between Attachment, Trauma and Relationships, and I truly value your thoughts and ideas, so please share and add any additional information or stories you feel will also be helpful in healing our lives!

I was adopted as a baby and my adoptive mother abused me emotionally & physically until I was 19 when she kicked me out. I have recently found both my biological parents and they have welcomed me into their lives giving me the love I never had. I am so confused about how to act. I have masked my whole life. Thank you for this series, I am needing to find a good therapist

Hi Dr Kim, could you make a video on how to make big decisions with cPTSD. It's really hard to guess what we want to do as a career for example given our low sense of self. At least it is for me, maybe there are daily exercises that could help?

I wish there were specific instructions for those with aphantasia. I feel it's powerful and some statements are great like felt sense ones, but when there's imagery it brings me out of it. There is a very different imagination with aphantasia.

Massive Question: I am in graduate school for Counseling and I just recently came across this protocol. 1) Where did you go for training on protocol?? I can't find any therapeutic training on it anywhere. 2) do you know of any other protocols, techniques, etc. That work this deeply on healing attachment disorders?
