This video introduces the relationship between our attachment style and caregivers and how these experiences land in our nervous systems and bodies. In order to heal attachment wounds (disturbances) we need to not only understand our style, triggers, partners, tendencies, etc, but we also need to understand the impact upon our bodies and our nervous system responses.
****************************************************************************
HEALING ATTACHMENT WOUNDS SERIES:
This series begins with understanding the primary issues around Attachment Theory and healing Attachment Styles, and will then go deeper into issues around Attachment wounds and related trauma and relationship issues.
I will be posting daily 5 to 10 minute videos after this one on Healing Attachment Wounds and Understanding Attachment Styles and Relationships, as well as tying these topics where appropriate to Complex Trauma, and challenging childhoods and parenting.
Many of you are already very familiar with Attachment, so I hope to add some additional research and topics you will find helpful, and potentially new ways of understanding yourself and life.
While we cannot fully heal attachment wounds without being in relationship with others, these videos will be providing some exercises you can use to enhance your healing journey.
I am so passionate about the relationships between Attachment, Trauma and Relationships, and I truly value your thoughts and ideas, so please share and add any additional information or stories you feel will also be helpful in healing our lives!

I really find your delivery and vocalubulary accessable as someone who hasn't ever had a regular therapist. Plus you are (seemingly) sticking to subject matter you can personally relate to which makes it feel far more relavant and genuine than just acedemic or professionsl familiarity... If thats not true well you do a really good job leaving that impression! thanks again

The part about attachment trauma living in our nervous system is so interesting! I’ve been told that I need to work on my body but I never knew why. This is like a key piece of the puzzle I was missing, thank you 🙏

This video is amazing. I’ve been watching and pausing all day. Journaling and asking myself questions that I’ve taken away from what you’ve shared. Please keep them coming. This information is invaluable.

I’m a first time mother with a 5 1/2-year-old. In her first five years of life, I was going through the death of my father and the divorce from her father who has a personality disorder and addiction issues. I was in survival mode much of the time and didn’t have the bandwidth to support her when she was having really big emotions. I yelled a lot.. I am now a lot more even tempered and able to hold space for her big emotions and be there for her, as I’ve processed through a lot of that trauma not only from my adult life but my childhood. I’m curious if you think the damage I caused her is repairable at this point? I’ve heard the philosophy that if you don’t get it right in the first five years, that will stick with them and the damage has already been done. Curious your thoughts, as I really value and respect your work!

Hi Dr. Kim! Thanks for your help with this series im very grateful for your help! I wanted to ask if you think an Anxious Avoidant relationship can work out, even after the two opposites (people) have taken each other to a limit, where both of their Anxious and avoidant characteristics are a lot more heightened, but wanting to work it out. Can it be done? And do you think having signs of a trauma bond means the relationship cannot work? can it be healed if for example the Anxious starts to try to heal her childhood wounds? Thanks 🙏🏼
