When I was 20-25, I was going to bars seeing which one had the cheapest beer. Nathan Pritiken was sneaking into medical conventions because of his intellectual curiousity. Then because of his inventions/company, he's given carte blanche to view top secret documents from the Air Force and chooses to look at death rates among war countries in WW2. Later he studies the rates of CVD in undeveloped countries, and applies their diet to himself. This man was a true genius. Cures his own heart disease, reverses it (to which many heart doctors to this day say can't be done) and then starts a recovery center which cures patients from around the world. I bow before this man.

Fascinating stuff that still holds true today. Oh and I should say this: Nathan was possibly the first person to be aware that autoimmune diseases relating to the gut were caused by fiber deficient diets. He said that "the tragedy is that they are prescribed to eat even less fiber" which is exactly right. Today we have more proof than ever that plant-based diets are the best at keeping patients in remission. The best studies we have now prove him right.

@theartificialsociety337310 жыл бұрын
Nathan Pritikin was the first person that pieced all of the major aspects of the good diet program together into a consolidated program and attempted to popularize it. In his day the only final component that may have been less understood was just how damaging animal protein is to humans. Pritikin knew animal protein was not good but the magnitude of how bad it is was not quite understood. Now it is starting to be understood that protein is the number one factor for reducing longevity. Pritikin's son still runs a Pritkin program which is also in line with the McDougall Program. Listen to Pritikin and McDougall and you have a chance to get your health on track.

+The Fearmoths He was fairly old at that time and would soon die of cancer due to his engineering work. He overcame heart disease. He was a great man that deserved so many accolades. He saved so many people's lives. You would do well to learn more and try the whole foods plant based diet. The results are easily tested by your blood pressure, weight, cholesterol, well being and typically only 30 days to see the results. You don't need scientists and people's stories as the results on your own will speak for themselves. It really is not rocket science to understand what's going on. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
@TheFearmoths9 жыл бұрын
The Artificial Society I totally agree to be honest and believe personal experience holds much more value than studies and statistics. I get my blood tested regularly. My health has improved body fat is melting away ever since I started a ketogenic diet 6 months ago. It's not for everyone, but the results speak for themselves.
@theartificialsociety33739 жыл бұрын
+The Fearmoths I would suggest to you that your experience is not an accident. Similar results are observed in mice when given high protein diet in that they become leaner and stronger for a while. But the consequence is the mice lived dramatically shorter due to all causes of mortality. The high carb low protein low fat slightly chunkier mice lived significantly longer and longer than the imposed leaner ones with same high carb diet. Caloric restriction did not work for longevity unless protein was restricted. You are experiencing the same phenomenon. And there are hormonal stimulant responses that occur from foods that can make one enjoy certain foods but it's not necessarily healthy in the long term. You have to consider your goals and balance can be achieved. I wish you good health, keep learning!

Nathan's son Robert Pritikin was involved in running the Pritikin live-in centers until around 2000. He is no longer involved. Pritikin was among many who HBO comedian, Bill Maher, had lumped together with other health promoters this year in a comedy segment, saying that it doesn’t matter how much kale you eat, or standing desks you get... implying that being healthy won’t save us from a toxic environment - showing obituaries for people who died young like Pritikin. It was disingenuous to lump Pritikin in with the others, because an autopsy on him showed clear arteries, proving that his diet worked. He died from taking his own life. Even though Pritikin was not a medical doctor, he discovered truths that to this day doctors like Dr.McDougall and Dr. Greger mention as one of the pioneers in lifestyle medicine. He deserves a lot of respect.

What this man knew at the time I was 6 year old Southern American girl raised without this info, even with newer information and more studies this is absolutely amazing. Then by the time I am 50 today. I have already had heart disease and pre-diabetes. Nnw over a year with my why in hand, I have lost 70 lbs. and all my lipid panel risk for heart disease have moved from high to optimal and no diabetes due to moving to high fiber, plant foods, low saturated fat, no oil, and increased water for hydration.

Wow!! That was fantastic. Years ago, in the mid 90s, I bought my mother one of his books as she was diagnosed with severe cardiovascular disease. She was able to follow the diet for some months and dropped her cholesterol from 300 to 140. But sadly she was unable to stick to the diet as her husband was against it and offered no support. She fell back to a bad diet, had a heart attack a year later, then a year after that had elective bypass surgery and died on the operating table of bleeding complications. So sad. She was only 69 years old. Nathan Pritikin was an absolute brilliant man. Thank you Dr. McDougal for this beautiful interview. ❤

It's hard to find someone as matter of fact as Dr. McDougall but listening to this interview for the 2nd time I think I've found someone. In so many of Dr. McDougall's lectures he gets straight to the point. And then expands upon and justifies that. I bet there have been many people attending his lectures that felt like fish out of water just having to sit there and hear it. And that's pretty amazing. Oh, the bad habits we the people carry close to our hearts! I bet there are so many people who would like to ask Dr. McDougall a question but just can't because they can't stand to hear the answer. They're sure as hell not going to go read any of his newsletters.

Wonderful video which emphasis that we need plant based eating to live healthy long productive lives. Dr MacDougall lead me to this video....I am Multiple Sclerosis survivor who uses diet to live better. However one does make mistakes so it's important to keep your eyes on the price. Health is the new wealth. Medication free 20yrs later. Keep on keeping on 🙏 God made us to be healthy for the years we have, but we have to make the decision to go against popular thought most times.

Today I listened to the JAMA-podcast about Mr. Pritikin. They said that we do not need his diet anymore because we have medication, stents and bypass surgery. Yeah right. We all see how well that works.

Pritikin was diagnosed as having leukemia in 1958. No doubt his diet helped keep it in remission for 26 years. The leukemia flared up and he was experiencing intense suffering. Consequently he ended his life his way. articles.latimes.com/1985-02-23/news/mn-1021_1_nathan-pritikin .
