I love how much focus you put on fermented foods. I just recently (after being exposed to them practically my whole life by my mom) started paying attention to and experimenting with different types of fermented foods and they have changed my life . I wish I would have paid attention to my mom sooner, but that’s life… I am still having reactions to fermented foods. My hypothesis is that the foods are addressing the digestive issues I have and thus doing their job because once I get through that initial reaction, I feel better. When I do react strongly, I just lower the amount and usually eat them earlier in the day vs evening. If you’re having trouble with kimchi because of the nightshades, there are still ways to make a mix of kimchi/sourkraut without the nightshades. That’s the beauty of fermented foods. My biggest challenge was to give up processed sugar after regularly eating fermented foods for about a year.

Keratosis, psoriasis, regular acne on the nose only and some rosacea on the cheeks as well. Dermatologists' products usually make it better but only temporaryly. I already tried a month of histamine free diet, but I cannot say it did anything, really. I got rid of wheat and I generally dont eat much sugar to begin with, but I tried that for a month, again with no noticeable change. I got rid of dairy next for a month in addition to the wheat ban...no changes, still. I have started with a bit of apple-cider vinegar in the morning and bits of homemade kimchi in the evening. Next will be the homemade sauerkraut. Maybe the fermented stuff can finally get some results, but perhaps I should just get some probiotics anyway. The thing is, I dont even have any bowl problems or health issues aside of the mentioned skin issues. If I had outbreaks after eating something, at least I'd know what the problem is.

Very informative video, thank you. The CFU values you mention for for food sources, for example Kimchi, is it a Teaspoon, Tablespoon or larger quantity ?
@DrRuscioDC
@DrRuscioDC Жыл бұрын
Great question! So a half cup of kimchi will generally get you about 11.5 billion CFU. The ranges I believe go from a half cup up onward. It's hard to say exact measurements for the foods as many brands are different.

Hello Dr Michael. I have started to take probiotics after finding out I have virtually no gut microbiome. I am on day 100 of eating a carnivore diet. I went to carnivore to combat SIBO. I was told I need carbs to feed the probiotics. Is this true? Or can I stick with carnivore?

Interesting about your commentary about Kimchi, which has nightshades and can sometimes cause joint pain after consuming it. Would this be related to those nightshades type food being high in oxalates? My Nephrologist (Kidney doctor) indicated that for me personally, foods high in oxalates may not be the best for me (e.g., Almonds, Almond milk, Spinach, etc.).

Incredible! Only today did I first suscribe to your channel and, coincidently, no later than yesterday, I had a severe allergic reaction which led me to realize my leaky gut has made me intolerant to histamine…! Literally : I didn’t know about histamines and DAO a mere 24h before you talk about it in this video 👀 It’s almost spooky 👻😅 Thank you for your great content, by the way, I’m now hopeful I can heal completely with the help of probiotics 🤞 Three questions about that: 1) Once I’ll take probiotic supplements, should I take them all year long or do I need to pause at some point? 2) does one take the pills every day? 3) Any reason why you don’t mention Akkermansia?

Thank you Dr Ruscio, very interesting. What do you think of the recent study comparing fibers and fermented foods which showed that fermented foods were superior to improve gut microbiome diversity and also to improve the immune system? That study ( "Gut Microbiota-Targeted Diets Modulate Human Immune Status" ) says that 5 servings or more of fermented foods is necessary to achieve the best result but that sounds to be much more than 1-10 billion CFUs you are talking about. It is a bit confusing. Should the 5 servings be limited for 1-2 months and reduced after? Would you have any opinion on this?

My partner made fresh sauerkraut.I took it for a week or so,a bit too much maybe quantity wise,well I was getting up at 4 am to go to the loo,loose stools for maybe 10 weeks.I read about saccharomyces being good but as I have psoriasis and read SB increases something in the gut that people with P have I tried it, I swear after 2 days only my stools returned to normal. I continued taking for a month and I’ve had no issues since plus my psoriasis improved maybe around 50%

I want to hear how it came about that it became known that less probiotics are better and also, how come that it was thought probiotics in capsules were better, because more of it in a capsule, than there is in traditional food. These are the most important questions at this point.
