This video shows all my Drosera this year that I’ve got in the greenhouse when they are looking their best and just before they go into dormancy.

Well since you’re in Britain, you’d could probably fill em up with water for the vacation until they’re standing in it and it’ll be fine. For me here in north Texas, I gotta move them inside. I learned not to use grow lights for this the hard way lol

I have a drosera multifida extrema that is trailing, and I had to customize a hanger for it because it grows like a very determined weed!! Like the first one you showed. Yours is a most impressive specimen!!! I have to admit to a little bit of plant envy lol but you've shown me a couple drosera I have to look for now, so thank you for this video

Wow that binata dichotoma is out of control! LOL! Love it though! I have regular binata and Drosera binata multifida "extrema". The extrema lis already getting out of control for me. Their leaves droop downwards and need quite a bit of room.

Hi. So really have awesome, wonderful sundews... i think i watched your video several times most especially when i had burmannii seeds. I carefully watched it on how to germinate them.. seeing your collections makes me speechless. I wish i could have some of your seeds. 😘😘. I only have burmannii, humpty doo and spatulata and paradoxa on my drosera collection.

Is it always better to use peatmoss than sphagnum?
@carnivorous_plant_girl
@carnivorous_plant_girl 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I would say it is personal choice. I prefer to use peat moss for plants as it can be made up in large batches and is more cost effective. I usually only use sphagnum for propagation but it is up to you what you use 😁

Hello, that is a great collection you have, I hope theyre all doing ok now in this very cold weather. If I could ask you for some advice. I have never had any luck with drosera aliciae. I tried it many times. I do have capensis and it does very well. Just every time I try aliciae. If you can advise me I appreciate it very much thanks.
@carnivorous_plant_girl
@carnivorous_plant_girl 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for watching. I keep both my drosera capensis and aliciae in the greenhouse year round and most will die back to the roots and regrow again in spring. They require lots of sunlight, although I have found they can do great in just a very bright position which keeps them a nice green rather than going redder in strong intense sunlight. Watering and soil the same as capensis. If you’re keeping indoors you could attempt raising the humidity slightly, I have found this to help on a couple of struggling aliciae before when I kept them inside. Hope this helps, feel free to ask anymore questions
@MrCheekygeek

@@carnivorous_plant_girl Hello and thank you so much. Ok the two aliciae look like 'they've died back completely. So they mat be still alive and come back in spring. And yes, I have them on windowsill in kitchen. They are looking all brown and fairly dry. I will keep them watered slightly and hope they grow back in spring. I have a capensis in bedroom on windowsill but its a bit higher temperature and it is still green and has not died back. Thanks for your reply and you have been very helpful, have a good New Year.Keep up the great work you are doing in caring for so many beautiful plants. Bye and take care.

@carnivorous_plant_girl
@carnivorous_plant_girl 3 жыл бұрын
TheScrappydog100 No I don’t have heating in my greenhouse. My collection consists of mainly temperate plants which go through dormancy. I even leave my subtropical sundews in there during the winter, they die off and come back from the roots

Such a lovely collection, I wanted to ask you about the Pygmy Sundews that if you grew them from seeds and for how long have you had them?
@carnivorous_plant_girl
@carnivorous_plant_girl 3 жыл бұрын
Salim Mohamedali Thank you. All of my Pygmy sundews are grown from gemmae. I’ve only had them for about 2 years but as I leave them in the greenhouse all year they usually die off in the winter and I start the next generation from the gemmae they produce
@salimmohamedali1694
@salimmohamedali1694 3 жыл бұрын
Carnivorous_plant_girl Thank you for your quick response. I wanted to ask you about your method of gemmae for Pygmy Sundews. When these Sundews produce gemmae when they die off, do you collect the gemmae and store them for how long any and how do you store them? Sorry for asking you all these questions as I’m new to growing Sundews and this Pygmy variety really fascinates me.
@carnivorous_plant_girl
@carnivorous_plant_girl 3 жыл бұрын
Salim Mohamedali The gemmae that they produce is like a living bud which you separate to form a new organism. Once separated from the mother plant they should be planted immediately or kept moist in a paper towel but they cannot really be stored as even in a paper towel they will begin to sprout as they must be kept wet. The mother plant can survive after producing gemmae as well. Hope this helps. Anymore questions just ask 😊

@carnivorous_plant_girl 3 жыл бұрын
Some tropical Drosera have a summer dormancy but they do not have a cold dormancy. Sub-tropical Drosera do not have a dormancy but most will die down to the roots over winter and come back in Spring. Temperate Drosera have a cold winter dormancy. Hope this helps :)

I have a humidity of 10 percent here in anchorage. Since my dew isn't dewing quite yet should I try and increase the humidity?or should I just wait it out. Hello, I want to ask. Can Drosera be dormant by putting it into the refrigerator like VFT dormancy ??
@carnivorous_plant_girl
@carnivorous_plant_girl 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I have never experienced Drosera dormancy done via the fridge method, the biggest concern would be the hibernacula rotting if kept too wet. However I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, as long as you only kept them damp and you don’t have any other method to provide dormancy.
