I’ve just been diagnosed with complicated diverticular decease, after several flare ups my consultant has strongly recommended I have an operation to remove a section of infected colon. I’m really scared! God bless the surgeons and the patients in their hands. ❤️. I’ve search utube and sadly, there’s nothing out there than this! THANK YOU to the USA and India for uploading educational and informative content..

Thank you so very much Dr. Renee. Your video presentation was very informative and helpful to me, i.e. very thorough and explanatory. As a sufferer I have learnt all that I wanted to know from listening to your video. Its not a disease that is easy to manage at times. I get terrible pain on upper left side below my breast and lower left side. Both my barium enema and CT scan showed I have diverticulitis. I am now referred to a gastroenterologist. Thank you so much💞💞🌹and God bless you..🙌🏿👏🏿👏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

Thank you, Dr Renee for a very thorough overview of this disease. After a recent colonoscopy I was instructed to use Benefiber daily. I am being referred to a GI doctor. I have suffered from lower back pain for many years. It seems like I heard that sometimes diverticulosis could cause this? Any thoughts on that?

I was diagnosed with severe diverticulosis in the whole colon and more severe on the left side. I asked what that looks like? They said if I have many flairs they would need to remove the most serious area!

Thankyou so much for this informative video. I'm a young 48 with no health issues other than massive stress & I've gained way to much weight in the last couple years. I guess that was enough to send me into my first episode of divercultitis😭😭. I was just released from the hospital lastnight. I was sick with a fever that ranged from 102 to 105. Ii hate hospitals so I took antibiotics I had at home. The pain was to much. I ended up going in to the ER last Thursday. Considering I could have died I feel lucky to be alive. The CT scan showed an infection with borderline abscess..they never really clarified despite how many times I asked. They said my labs looked good enough to go home and gave me augmentin for 10 days. They never really went into depth about when to reintroduce fiber. Im assuming since Im past the fever stage I can start taking fiber? I feel a little traumatized since I've never had any health issuea so I want to make sure I'm doing everything right. They released me on a full diet but just said to be careful..that doesn't really help much so I've been doing hours of my own research. When can I reintroduce fiber into my diet? I've been drinking 150 oz of water and taking Aloe Vera and L glutamine to heal my stomach lining. I don't want to add fiber to soon. This has been a traumatic event. Thankyou again for this helpful video. Much appreciated. Definitely subscribing💯❤️! Take care

I truly appreciate your video while it mentioned many details about my current medical conditions. I am a Sri Lankan male, currently living in Melbourne since 2015. Since I had my work related injury in 2017, I am taking high dose of NSAID morning, afternoon and evening, soon it caused constipation to a severe degree. I am also having faecal incontinence since earlier 2019 due to my lower back injury. I got severe pain flare up since earlier June this year, I was referred to have an ultra sound scan abdominal and a CT abdomen & pelvis scan, CT scan revealed about mild diverticulitis conditions. I was referred to a colorectal surgeon by my GP for his expert opinion but my insurance sent me to an independent medical examination to be assessed by a gastroenterologist. So the gastroenterologist believes I do not have diverticulitis but the colorectal surgeon. Please advise me who should I trust in this case, who is more specialized to diagnose my abdominal pain flare ups in the right part. I also have blood in my stool but not often. Please help me with your expert opinion.

I'm 34 and diagnosed with acute diverticulitis. I am constipated and scared it will get worse. I am currently taking antibiotics. I'm also scared that I will get this flare up again. I don't know what to do. I'm so stressed.

I’m taking antibiotics at the moment too. First set of antibiotics didn’t work and the pain came back in 2 days. It will flare up but go right away to the ER. I was complaining to my regular dr for years and that dr never believe me as usual. I had to called a Gastro finally I got send to get a ct scan. It’s better to go to the ER straight without calling ur regular Dr. I’m on my second set of antibiotics and still feeling a lot abdominal pain, I’m not sure how this going to end with me but at this point I’m not sure. Oh Plus I eat very healthy food not sodas only water, tea, sometimes juices. Hope it helps you a bit

I'm 35 and sadly I'm one of the rare people who get it at an earlier age. I've changed my diet and coped pretty well since my diagnosis in July this year, but I had a recent flare up and been unable to pinpoint what caused it. Too much fibre perhaps or drinking tap water? I usually drink bottled water but wouldn't have thought that would affect it. Either way I haven't had a spicy curry since as it's a bad food for me and I'm gutted

Thank you Dr. My Mum has had a recent flare up and this video has been really helpful. I love it when you come on the Jo Good show. Do you think a low FODMAP diet would help my Mum in preventing another flare up? Thank you again. Joseph
@DrRenee5 жыл бұрын
Hi Joseph. Glad it has helped. No, high fibre is the best way to avoid flares and worsening to keep stools soft. FODMAP is for IBS. R

Well explained-one small point, something which irritates me, si that medical professionals cannot or will not use the word adult words, tummy instead of stomach, bottom instead of backside, not excrement but instead "poo". "Poo" is a word out of the kindergarden. It is a word that I stopped using when I was about 7 years old! I think adults should be treated like adults and not be adressed with this childish language. Seems to have come over to Britain from the USA where people talk about people "going to the bathroom" when going to the toilet is meant etc. I think we should reject these euphemisms and childish expressions. . Interesting and clear explanation however-many thanks. I am beginning to wonder whether I have diverticulis, although only the one symptom. I may have to go to the doctor again knowing full well that antibiotics are poison for me since I have IBS. Two questions: 1) are patients with IBS-D more vulnerable to diverticulitis? 2) Does divericulitis ever self-heal?
