I was this couple with my ex. Let’s just say I finally left after three years. He was still sad about me leaving after a year. I was extremely abused mentally and physically. Now 6 years later I’m sober, married and have a beautiful baby boy. Things can get better you just need to be the one to make the change and leave.

As her oldest brother this video hurts. I cannot watch this. My sister passed away in her childhood home in Jan 2023 in her sleep. She struggled and did get better for a time, we had her back. It was nice. She is severely missed. Do not let mental health and drug addiction go free. Please, you do not know just how many lives were forever affected from losing one.

These are two of the most introspective, thoughtful and self-aware couples I've seen. Addict or otherwise. I'm not seeing in him what a lot of others are. He is making terrible choices and so is she. Got it. Yes. We all know that. Par for the course with a lot of people we meet on this channel, right? As far as they go _together_ I see two best friends. I see two lovers that have found themselves in each other. I see a woman that has been hungry for nuance and depth and meaning for a loooong time and via him, or drugs, or the street or any combination of the three has found something many people search for all their _lives_ and never find. (Without 10,000 hours on the pillow meditating or $20,000 in an account for a really good psychotherapist!) I see a man that thinks he's a piece of shit but doesn't know he's capable of being a diamond and is caught somewhere in between the two. And when I see them look to each other to finish their sentence or find an answer I honestly see a pretty deep and abiding love. When she said "yes" after Mark asked her if he is the same way as the people she found around her who had depth and weren't "plastic" she said no, but you could absolutely tell she simply misunderstood what Mark was asking. I think she answered _no_ because while Mark was asking if he was the meaningful type of person she was looking for _SHE_ answered as though Mark asked her if he was like the plastic, surface people she was around before and her answer was a resounding _"no" _ ... you could feel and see the surprise he was feeling when she said no as he said he was SURE she'd say yes. In that moment there was confusion and I wanted so much to tell them, "SHE MISUNDERSTOOD! She meant "YES"!!!" Lots of commenters are debasing him for being so affectionate and caring when she began to talk about her children. He knew before she did when she would begin to cry and he reached out to her. TO COMFORT her. Watch it again ... observe his furrowed brow as he feels her pain and sadness. It's bewildering to me how so many _women_ are saying they see "toxic masculinity" or obsession or control! (I could literally _retch_ when I hear the words toxic and masculinity used together as such a terrible pejorative!) I see a boy who thinks he's no goddamned good, and I see a girl who thinks she's not worthy of any affection and they've found each other and I want so much that they get clean and somehow stay together or at least come back together. I think they've got something together that is much deeper than convenience and a lot more positive than addiction. I see two people that have together what millions of people never get lucky enough to have, and I don't understand where the vitriol and the shaming and the breathtakingly _awful_ assumptions about him are coming from.

I have been on drugs longer than I've been sober in life and I did the meds, then went on doing my mother duties. My mom got me high at 10 yo "so I couldn't tell on her, now," and it makes my blood run cold every time I think of how you couldn't possibly love someone to hand them a curse like this. I was an excellent kid especially in that environment. Anyways, I am in a clinic for years now, but I got clean and relapsed when I developed chronic illness while in a relationship like the above. I almost died in that relationship and I never even considered leaving my children. I got food delivered through my phone, hid money back from our abuser, and escaped to the life we have now. My whole life has been hell, unimaginable to a lot of people, but it's my story. Anyways, being alone with my children and being able to love them fully without a jealous manchild keeping this huge divide between us has been a magical bonding experience that couldn't have ever happened had I not given up what I wanted for what my kids needed. Always. You couldn't give me anything and get me to choose smokes or dope over rent and I found myself being challenged, so I got TF out with my precious jewels soon as I realized what was happening. And that was after knowing and living with him a decade. You can't ever know anybody's got your back if you turn your back on the only people who do. Your children. Drugs should've never been a part of someone like me's life. Sounds like the same for her. You're spending every second wanting out, hating the drug, resenting your family for not loving you and programming you for the world to eat you alive, resenting how smart and resilient you were despite the drama and sabotage, that you married men who looked and acted just like your father and mother bc you're always looking for a home in someone. My children gave me that. I've planned how well I'm gonna treat my children since I was a child, myself. In all the horrible ways my parents behaved and damaged me, it was like every single incident, I'd swear on everything in the universe that I will never be the kind of person that would do a damn thing to harm a hair on a child's head or ever be a threat to their little spirits. And I kept it. It's just gotta be who you are. Now, this is my perspective, but these relationships become hostage situations. I've been there. I got chronically ill from the codependency and abuse. He finished smothering out the flame that survived my parents. Anyhow, long story short, children are a precious treasure that are loaned to us to be there for and learn the art of programming a functioning mind, nervous system, proper chemical reactions to proper stimuli, and then letting it go back and give back to the earth they live on. Then back to the universe. I wouldn't want to have to explain why i let the evil in me outdo the good in me to be able to leave someone I gave no choice in living and having to try to survive alone. Esp not for some strange man who's trying to hold my head underwater so I can't even possibly do my duties. Life has been so beautiful being self-aware enough to be able to break the toxic bonds that my parents anchored themselves to. My children are the light of my heart. My disabled son will probably be with me until the day I die and I'll give it my everything being his arms and legs and whatever he needs to achieve anything he wants to. I made him be here. I forced that onto him without consent. And he loves me, so why wouldn't I love him as innocently as he does me? Why, if I'd do it for him, wouldn't I feel the same for all of them? I see parents throwing their kids out sink or swim and sleeping like babies at night. How?!?! Sorry I rambled on and on. I'm so passionate about children not going through what I went through and selfish parents are destroying so, so many lives. I'm barely 40 and almost all of my graduating class has died due to toxic parenting, more than anything. Everything that killed them was a symptom of a broken heart and depleted seratonin/dopamine from dealing with being forced to exist so harshly for no other reason than orneriness and untreated mental illness. I'm early to get my meds so I never run out. Not for me, for the lives that depend on me. Even for my dog. They gotta have SOMEBODY all in to have half a chance at breaking these chains for themselves. Research shows ONE adult makes all the difference in a whole lifetime for a child. It's so unfair that whatever created us made sure we have a backup, even (takes a mom and dad to make a child), and most children still end up with none. I pray they can all find fulfillment in a chosen family and break the cycle their folks didn't take the trouble to.

@@cw6621 Thank you for this. So beautiful and so true. I admire and agree with everything you said. I grew up in an abusive and dysfunctional family and promised the same to my children as you. Not to ever let my daughter experience anything near what I experienced. To live a proactive life with focus on having a healthy relationship with my child. I accomplished that to the best of my ability and with professional help along the way when needed. I'm not perfect but I made damn sure my kid would have a happy and wholesome upbringing. She's now a very accomplished 28 yo and I'm so proud of her. I can't imagine, as you said, becoming 36 years old with a special needs child, and chucking it to live with and become an addict because you feel the people are more authentic!?!? Are you kidding me? There's a whole world to choose from living around "plastic" people and a drug addict. I don't get it. Her children deserve better.

I don’t like to chime in because what do I know and everyone’s situation is different but in my experience (over a decade clean) people in a relationship during a time use will usually not stay together once they (or one of them) gets clean. Its rough man so many in LA living rough living in tents now I assume the only way to bear those conditions is to keep using. If Mike and Tina are reading this: love yourselves, seriously. You are both deserving of self love. Let go of resentment. Let go of struggle. They teach against this in AA. They say 1 year of sobriety, but I say not until you are STRONG in your sobriety and have pulled yourself and your life together should you start a relationship. Period. Them meeting in AA and jumping into a relationship was a recipe for disaster. I couldn’t get sober until we separated and I went to treatment and he went to prison. Then you realize it wasn’t actually love. It was a codependent, unhealthy relationship. I have over 3 years sober and my life and my kids back. @@katye02 Right? Ffs people are so assumptive and so ready to be _negative_ with their assumptions and it's women doing it for the most part. I don't get it.

I disagree, although he was one of the people that introduced her to the drug scene,he didn't hold her down and force her. She had an addiction when they met. Whatever drove her to make bad choices;they are her own choices. She is eloquent, intelligent and seems comfortable in his presence. It's not a healthy relationship, but it's all they have! In that sense it probably is codependent and the chance of rehabilitation is slim together. However, just because their relationship has issues, they still deserve the love and support it gives them. Let's wish them well and hope they can make the best choices to get them back to their kids and family.

@@skrrskrr99 thanks to the ACA (Obamacare) there are ways, they could get into a methadone program for free and then get on a waiting list for rehab that will also be paid for in full. But it's very scary looking down the throat of sobriety, there facing unbearable pain and sickness and that's the easy part! The depression and guilt are enough to bring anyone and I mean the smartest richest best looking strongest people to there knees! And I don't know anyone that wants to sign up for that. But the only thing worse than getting sober, is not getting sober. Yes it was self inflicted but now it has turned into something no one person can fix. Unfortunately, AA has changed since all the drug use/addiction issues. There used to be a saying, "no 13th stepping", meaning don't date people early in recovery. Because misery loves company and sex feels like getting high. When you reach that point where it's get clean or die (or continue the living death of addiction), then you become willing to do whatever it takes. 100% abstinence, single (or in a committed relationship) and whatever crap job or volunteer work to keep busy and tire you out. Three meetings a day and sitting in a diner drinking coffee with clean and sober people. Whatever it takes. My opinion. I wish them both well.
