We have more and better brands in Europe than in other continents. Most brands from America are forbbiden in Europe, due to being highly toxic, leading to different diseases, like cancer. Also non European brands are not designed for European hair, so they probably won't work anyway. As @diekje8728 said, the products and tutorials recommended for straight hair are for curly hair that as been straightened. Which is not the same thing. So, if you have European hair, be it 1A, 1B or 1C (I have 1C), go for European brands. You'll be totally fine. The highest difference I've found are: using wood and silicone brushes and combs, leave in conditioner, ionic blowdrier/iron/curler to polish your hairstyle so it last for days until your next wash, blowout cream, iron/curler heat protectant spray AND olive oil for the ends. Yes, I use the olive oil I have in my kitchen, but marinated with rosemary I introduced in the bottle. And it's better than argan/coconut/avocado/jojoba/whatever fancy and expensive hair oil sold in beauty stores 😂I smell like salad, though.

I used to be very sceptical about spending more on hair products but previously had dry frizzy hair and couldn’t go beyond 2/3 days without re-washing. I’ve now been using professional products for about a year and I completely see their worth now: 1. My hair can now go about 5 days in between washes and it looks fine 2. I actually use less product with the professional stuff and as I’m not washing my hair as much I don’t think the cost difference is as much a it may seem, it’s just more expensive in one purchase 3. My hair is so so much softer and no way near as frizzy. It also holds styles a lot better

But this video made me decide to give it a try and it has honestly made so much difference over the past few weeks. It felt like a splurge for me, but now that my hair is looking healthier I need to wash my hair less often so it most likely won’t cost as much as in the long rum as I initially thought. I love that this works for so many people. It unfortunately didn't for me, though. I bought everything Chris recommended for my fine & oily hair type and tried all the methods. My hair became shinier & smoother for sure but it also got very greasy after just one day. Before I could easily go at least 2 days without washing. Now I have to use almost a whole bottle of dry shampoo to even get me to two days. I switched back to my trusty pharmacy shampoo but kept everything else Chris recommended in my routine et voilá no more grease fest after one day :)

I have fine, thin hair too. One of my stylist described my hair as “all baby hairs” 😅 because it’s so fine. The roots close to my forehead get oily very quickly. With my fine hair, the oil doesn’t have enough hair to soak it up and distribute it. I’ve hear that curly hair strands are more porous, so they soak in oil better. My hair is so straight that I usually just let it air dry, and it dries straight. 🤷‍♂️

Wait! Before you switch products, here are a couple of pointers, from someone that used to be in the same boat: 1) Give your scalp and hair time to adjust! So many other factors can affect the need to wash hair - humidity, electric heat in the house/office, weather outside, hormones, diet changes, etc. - the same factors that affect our skincare needs affect our scalp! If it still isn’t working after a month with the way you’re using it, then try: 2) switch techniques! Make sure to do a double wash on wash day, ideally with a clarifying shampoo first, and give your scalp a thorough scrub - I do about 5 minutes if I’ve been outside a lot, and no less than 3 for normal days. His “shampoo kung fu” technique is a great place to start. If that doesn’t help, last resort: 3) Try using less of the products at a time. Dry shampoo, in particular, can be overused quickly (trust me, been there, cried from that) and will cause the scalp to dry out. AND… an oily scalp is really a dry scalp, trying to compensate for the dryness. Good luck!!!

High-end leave-in products are very useful. I can see the difference when I use them. However, I save on shampoo because it’s all going down the drain anyway. I gone through entire containers of high end sulfate-based shampoos, and I thought they worked similarly to my drug-store sulfate surfactant shampoos. I think if I had thick, wavy, or curly hair, then I might be a lot more picky about shampoo’s, but I have an easy hair texture.

I'm usually very sceptical about hair products, as my thick, curly and frizzy hair is as rebellious as they get and nothing ever seemed to work. However, Chris's advice to use professional products, including a leave-in conditioner and protectant has been a complete game-changer for me. I never realised how much of a difference this switch would make, and although the professional alternatives are far costlier than their drugstore counterparts, as Chris pointed out in another video, we're making an investment in our health - after all, hair is part of the body, and for women in particular, we'd like it to be our crowning glory and not something we want to hide under a hat! What's your take on pharmacy shampoo ? For what I can see in social media, it's not common at all to use pharmacy shampoo in the US, but here in France it's the most popular option and I can see why, I love them (particularly the brand KLORANE) since they focus mainly on scalp health. Although social media is influencing me into wanting to try professional products (I've barely ever used drugstore, I hate it), but I was curious as to what the difference between pharmacy and professional. PS: Pharmacy doesn't necessarily mean dandruff/medicated shampoo ;) They are meant to be used like regular shampoos, they're just sold in pharmacies and the brands are part of skincare labs instead of cosmetic.

@@etheriumrise39 Actually Klorane has reformulated all of their shampoos, they have removed sodium laureth sulfate and made the formula BIO so it may be because of that. However, personally the quinine shampoo is my least favorite of them because the small percentage of alcohol denat in it (used to enhance penetration of the ingredients given that it's a shampoo for hair loss) makes my hair feel disgusting. yah, thought I want to add that I use ogx as the shampoo does not dry out the hair too much , if I dont use add on products, it takes 2 hours for the frizz to settle by itself. in saloon, is also the same, they just add in those other extra products to style the hair at the same time so it looks better.

Herbal Essences, Revlon and Garnier shampoos, and conditioners have done wonders for my hair as of recent. They are on the higher side of the drugstore brands so they are not as bad. I even use Revlon Colorsilk and Clairol Nice 'N' Easy in Dark Auburn for my hair dye. Granted, cheaper, but they make my hair look amazing. Might I say that professional hair dye is crap. The dye washed out and it turned right back into my natural hair color which is blonde. So no, professional isn't always better.

I think everyone's hair is different. There's no "one size fits all" for hair products. Herbal Essence demolished my hair, but my mom's hair is beautiful and bouncy when she uses it. I use Biolage for color treated hair and my hair looks and feels great, but my sister's hair dried up after one use. It's crazy. I think we all just have to experiment with different brands and products.

So I watched this video and then I actually took his advice. I did the quiz and bought the products. It was a little pricey. I never buy salon products usually, but I thought I would try this experiment out for myself. Anyway I studied his video and used them exactly as he advised and my hair was amazing. Definitely worth it. Yes it was more expensive but I think I will not need to wash and style my hair as often, so I may even save money! My hair finally (at age 54), for the first time in my life, looks and feels amazing and shiny and polished! Thanks!

I'm a stylist myself and this video makes me mad 😒 Right off the jump, you're using products that don't even remotely equate to one another. If you use a drugstore moisturizing shampoo/conditioner, do the same with the high end. Volumizing shampoo and conditioners are voluminzing because they contain fewer heavy, moisturizing ingredients. A blowdry mist does not equate to a blow cream/balm. Use they same types of products for comparison. There are drugstore products out there that are quality and that work. Our job as stylists is to educate clients on the best way to care for their hair- that includes educating ourselves on brands that may be more affordable to them. Because let's be real, the retail price of high end brands is NOT the same price as what is on our invoice when we order it 😊 High end products may sometimes have slightly more quality ingredients, but a lot of ingredients are similar on mid-tier and high-tier drugstore products. Hell, I used my boyfriends sisters Suave shampoo and conditioner recently (not the bottom shelf $1 one, fffr) because that was all that was available to be, and I was HIGHLY impressed. I felt like my whole career of knocking drugstore products was a lie, and it kinda is. I'm that stylist that doesn't judge you, and my main concern is you being able to maintain your hair from home with what you can afford!

Thank you!! I'm not a pro and can't critically analyze these videos, but it does seem odd that in the entire haircare market, there are noooo affordable, nice options 🤔. I wish that you used the blow dryer in the same way on both sides. On the pro side you keep the dryer straight to the hair without moving back and forth, on the drugstore side, the dryer is out from the hair and you are moving it back and forth... Your video is meaningful but for critical people like me, that blowdry difference is important and invalidates comments you made about the fly aways.

I did the hair type quiz and got fine hair as a result, which I expected. I bought all recommended products and watched all the videos on how to use them. New to me is to wash my hair twice and the technique to spread the shampoo and to massage it in. I also bought a hot air brush and it works well. However, I've been fighting with my hair since starting the new routine. The products, especially the shampoo, changes the structure of my hair. I don't know why it is called volume injection because there is no volume now at all, and my hair is greasy after 1 day in a way that no dry shampoo has been able to fix it. I used to use a lot less products, just a 2 in 1 shampoo by H&S, and usually just let my hair air dry and got 2 days out of it easily before it got too greasy. Now I have a lot of products, blow dry for a rough dry, finish with a hot air brush. I don't see the benefit of having spent so much on products, having a more complicated routine now, and getting less out of it.

I buy sample/small bottles of anything when I first try them; not all products work on my hair like they say, after trying a few products you will get your own routine right for your own hair. These videos are just to give you an idea. Most of us have combination hair like combination skin. I also only try one new product at a time and also products do change formula without saying, so using the same thing that once worked some times no longer works, just happened to me so you have to change it around plus I find that my hair gets use to a routine and does not respond like it did so I will change it up a bit.
@sophia-marieyoung6773

You changed too many things at once, so now you have to take things away one by one to see if they're not benefitting you. Maybe even go back to your old routine, and only use one different product or technique for a week or so until you isolate what's weighing down your hair. I've been air drying my hair for awhile and I am not going to start blow drying just because he said we can get a better result. I am also not going to buy everything all at once, because I have a lot of professional hair products already. If your hair is greasy after one day you're not cleansing it completely and/or you're adding in too much product. That's why I'd say go back to air drying...because then you're only using shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner. Worry about getting those 3 correct before moving to blow dry cream and heat protection, etc.

Once I decided to splurge and got professional hair products because I wanted the best results....I don't know why but I didn't see much of a difference between them even by the end of the bottles (more or less they lasted a couple of months) and my favourite drugstore products...maybe it's bacause I tried a lot of products and have only a few almost all natural product that I swear by, but I didn't see these great results, acutally I think there are not so many flying around hairs because many professional product have lots of silicones in them and they close down the hair structure and damages: my hair doesn't like them, they become very heavy and quickly greasy, so I avoid silicones like a plague, but it's not the same for everyone.

Your List is SPOT ON!--BOUGHT EVERY PRODUCT LISTED AND HAVE ZERO REGRET. I just cleared out my product graveyard (except my mouse and gel when I want to go naturally curly..... A product list for that would be much appreciated). I'm 49, and my hair is: long (past shoulders), thick and coarse, very wavy with some coils around my face and crown, graying- Sahara Desert Dry hair that I have not colored for 5+ years, that only needs to be washed once every 10-14 days. I cut my hair every 3-5 months. In the last 6 months, I have been battling knots that creep into my hair during the night, which cause breakage when brushing them out or a daily re-wet and recondition. I just bought every product on your list for my hair type and a Revlon blow dry brush. I have zero regrets. I'm only 12 hours into my first wash routine and have cleared out my product graveyard. It includes but is not limited to: BedHead, Curl Smith, Ouidad, Not-Your-Mother's, Twist, Renpure, and many other cheaper Wal-Mart brands like Suave, Pantene, Aussie, and more. Pros: *I only need a small amount of shampoo for my hair for each double wash. It's going to last forever because I'm not going to use a ton of shampoo to wash crap products out of my hair anymore. *My ends are already softer. Last night, when I washed and dried, I saw an immediate difference, but I was amazed when I woke up this morning, and they still looked and felt soft. It was the first time I woke up in months, and my hair didn't look like sun-dried straw, all tangled in knots. *My mids are shiny, smooth, and bouncy. I can't ask for anything better *My roots--I no longer need a flyswatter to spank the "fly"-aways. (or products or smoothing combs/brushes) *The Frizz is nonexistent--It's gone, poof, goodbye! I can't think of anything else to say about it. The only place the Frizz belongs is on the Magic School Bus! Not in my hair. *My hair smells great. I love it. Really! When I woke up this morning, it still smelled like I had just washed it before adding the Moroccanoil. Once I did add the morning oil, WOW. It smelled even better. *Less product amount is needed. I know my hair. I HAVE to put oil in it every morning and every night, sometimes during the day as well. It is just that dry. I can still go almost two weeks without washing because I have ZERO oil build-up on my scalp. However, instead of 1tsp-1Tbsp of oil each round, I'm only using 1/2 a pump to one full pump, which is a very small amount for me. Maybe as I continue to use the recommended products, I will be able to cut back on that as well. Time will tell. *The Revlon blow dry brush is WAY easier than the round brush and blow dryer. One hand is for the blow dry brush, and one hand is free for picking up the next section. AMAZING! *Static--My hair is attached to a static-conducting globe. I usually wake up with mile-high hair. It was flat, smooth, shiny, and ZERO static this morning. It's like the cord got unplugged or the switch got flipped off. *Space Saving--I cleared out products from under the sink, in the shower, and in a storage area. In my shower: Shampoo, Conditioner, and Hair Mask On the bathroom counter: Leave-In Conditioner, Hair Oil, Dry Shampoo, and brush Next to my Blow Dryer Brush: Blow dry cream Next to my Flat Iron: Heat protectant Bonus: The Moroccanoil I put in my hair (morning and night) makes my winter-dry hands soft and smooth. If, for some reason, you made it all the way to the end of this--I rode the fence for quite a while thinking the "list" of recommended products would be just another money pit. It wasn't. The entire "list" cost me about $200.00 in my area. That is a fraction of the cost of the following I bought in the past: Diva Curl, Monat, Wen, and many other high-dollar product lines, each reaching $350.00 (or more) because you need so many specific products to do specific jobs. I did spend an additional $45.00 on the Revlon Blow Drying Brush, and I have ZERO REGRETS. PS: I am not a "paid" reviewer or commenter. I am a regular person who paid every single sent for all the products I've discussed. I paid closer attention when Chris reviewed high-end shampoo/conditioner products, and he only recommended 1-2 out of 8-10 (I can't remember exactly). I took the "plunge" when he reviewed brushes and recommended the Dollar Store $1.00 Lama Brush over all but one brush, out of 5-6. I'm pretty sure he said it brushed even better than his own personal $2,000+ brush. Also, if it was (but it's not) a complete load of crap and my hair wasn't any better off, I would have written and copied/pasted $250.00 worth of negative reviews on every single video he posted on youtube. Why? He boldly stated in a few of his videos that I would see an immediate difference after the first wash. Chris was 100% telling the truth. I saw an immediate positive difference in my hair. PPS: I'm going on a 14-day cruise in September for my 30th anniversary. I planned on packing the bare minimum of products so I could travel carry-on only. I know not everyone can go two weeks between washes. Because I can, I plan on bringing travel-size products and the blow dryer brush. It will all fit into my liquids bag, and I will definitely get 3 washes, maybe even 4. And I will still be able to pack carry-on with awesome hair!

LI feel like I need a step by step list of what to do to your hair after you wash it: 1. So, you use a leave in conditioner after towel drying your hair-should your hair be really wet (not dripping) or can you leave your microfibre towel on for awhile? 2. After you’ve put the leave in conditioner on, you put blow drying cream on. What if my leave in conditioner also says it has heat protectant? 3. Once the products are on and you’be brushed your hair, do you let the products sit a couple of minutes or do you begin blow drying immediately?

How do we tell what is a "professional" shampoo? I honestly thought OGX was a "professional" shampoo because it's expensive... So is there something else I need to look for besides price?

I literally bought one small ogx (ogx biotin & collagen) shampoo in July last year and I’m still using the same bottle haha I wash my hair 2-3 times a week and the bottle still has 1/4 inside😳 before I used to buy a bottle of shampoo like every 3-4 months

I would love for you to do a video like this for curly hair. One side using curly girl method professional (no silicones) other side professional products (with silicones). I saw your video about silicones but I am still having a hard time allowing myself to accept that silicones for curly hair is okay. Would appreciate your help as I am not happy with my curls.

I started using the Redken Volume injection shampoo and conditioner and I love it. Was watching Chris's videos and they are really worth watching. I started doing the shampoo, conditioner, pureology leave in conditioner and protecting my hair with heat protectant which I never did before. Just can't seem to get the Redken 22 hot sets in Ireland. If you see this Chris could you recommend another one or where to get it. Going invest in paddle brush and round brush. Big shout out all the way from Ireland Chris 🇮🇪

Oh, what really makes a difference is your videos, Chris! Thank you for your recommendations! They have changed my wash and styling routines dramatically - less flyaways, less time on styling that lasts much longer (3-4! days instead of 1!!!) Love Redken products hope it won’t change at least in 5 months.

I spent a ton on morrocanoil just to find I am allergic. Never had that problem with dollar store brand and could easily go 7 days on it. So sad. For what its worth, I think its the Chamomile that made my scalp breakout. Too bad many professional shampoos seem to like to add this. I only used the products twice and am still trying to calm my scalp down. What seems to be working is apple cider vinegar, witch hazel and water with a few drops of tea tree and peppermint. I guess its an expensive product that doesn’t make it into the cheap shampoos and why I have never had a problem with dollar store brands. Chamomile is related to ragweed, and since I get hay fever its something I have to avoid (also chrysanthemum and calendula)

I love love loveeeeee your videos! They’re informative, consistent, entertaining and to the point! Also, I love that you advice a ‘simple’ straightforward routine based on hair type. Other channels I was following were advising SUCH an elaborate routine to save my hair - made me just want give up beforehand. You are my favorite hair guru! ❤ Love from The Netherlands!

Always thought that high end products were a waste of money until i ordered your new weightless shampoo and conditioner. It is higher in cost at first, but I've been able to go about 6 days in between washes (without dry shampoo) as opposed to every 3-4 days with drug store products. It's more money up front but def more cost effective in the long run since you use less product and it cleanses your hair more than the cheap stuff ❤❤

I was laughing watching this video because you legitimately used the drugstore products I use and after 2 weeks I feel and see a difference. In the end, I think it will be more cost saving since I don’t have to drench my hair in the OGX shampoo compared to the volume injection shampoo (also got lucky with an Ulta Jumbo Sale!)

My $30 shampoo does make my hair flyaway or slightly frizzy and it’s a high quality brand name too. I think it makes no difference what shampoo you use. Just use a proper heat protector that takes care of it.

Love this channel. The products recommended are waaaay too heavy for my super fine hair, but eventually I'll find the right products. Also...small note but tricky filming. Note the blow dryer position in comparison ;) of course it blows out the shorter hairs. Sneaky.

He's always said he hits the hair from both sides for even drying. So I'm sure the pro side also had that.

@@JClover2 I know, but still - not everybody has watched all his videos. Hitting the hair from both sides is cruical, but in this instance the clip seemed to be used as a visual example of frizz and flyaways on the drugstore side. He only showed that side for the drugstore, and the smooth side on the high-end. Just didn't sit right with me, because it seemed calculated to trick people who doesn't notice such details.

@@JClover2 Yes, for a short clip. But it's filmed from the downside looking up, against the grain, so to speak. All the shots from the professional side shows the hair being filmed with the grain, making the hair look smoother, and only when blowdried for the actual smoothing part. Anyway, I really like this channel! I was just put off and a little disappointed with the choice of clips used to highlight an issue, when it clearly is an unfair comparison. I would like a real close-up final result too, not the "panorama shots" for explanatory B-roll. I'd love to see a "wear-test" - how long the drugstore side lasts before getting oily, vs the professional side, when they both get the same shampoo kung fu, and professional blow-out.

My fine hair is bleached from root to end all the way up to level 10, touched up every 1,5 months, while I'm growing my hair out. I follow Chris's regime for about 8 months now and I'm never going back. My hair is thriving, even with all the torments of bleach and dye!

I love this channel and the information. My only complaint is I would like to see a hair model that represents me. Chin length fine hair with a little hair loss. I know it's not what people view as a hair goal - definately not mine, but there are a lot of us in this situation. I can't really relate to a woman with 10 times more hair than me. I do wonder how many watching are in my hair situation vs someone with long thick gorgeous hair (no shade there, celebrate it!)

I found your channel about a month ago and immediately started taking a ton of notes and changing my routine. I haven't changed any of my products yet, but only by learning the correct washing technique and using the Revlon dryer brush, my hair looks amazing already and stays cleaner for 2 days (for now). I however struggle to actually find the leave-in conditioner and the dry shampoo you recommend, can barely find it online. is it possible you recommend professional dupes for your "holy grail" products?

Chris I’m not sure what to do 😭 I’ve tried the redken hot sets 22 heat protectant spray that you recommended, but no matter how tiny of an amount I use and how far I spray it away from my hair, it always ends up weighing down my suuuuper fine hair and making it feel gross and sticky 🥺 I tried the low hold version and it didn’t feel much different. The rest of the products you have recommended for fine hair have been working well for me (though it is still a bit difficult for me to go 3 full days without washing, even with dry shampoo) so I don’t know why I’m struggling so much with heat protectant 😓

I have fine hair but lots of hair. I use Moroccan Oil heat protectant spray. It never weighs my hair down. Then following I use Quai blow out cream. Can be applied on damp hair and dry hair (after blow drying) no issues with it so far. Redken gives me build up residues. I use LOccitane shampoo. Made my hair so so soft and bouncy and fuller.

I sometimes spray the heat protectant into my hand, rub my hands together, then smooth the product onto my hair. Not sure if this alters the effectiveness of the product (maybe Chris can advise if he reads this) but it means I can distribute it more evenly.
