I feel like this original video is the best in the series, hands down. I’m a fairly new drummer, but I know enough to appreciate just how amazing this is. Samus did DOZENS of different fills in there, and from I could tell, all of them were different. IMO that’s pretty hard to do on the fly while keeping it that clean. Just amazing, such an inspiration ❤

From now on I will be referring to the vocal audio cues as "The Samus Method" or "The 66Samus Method". I think we should all do the same. The man may have just revolutionized how we play the oldest instrument.

Samus is obviously a top tier drummer. When I mean top tier, I'm talking on the Portnoy, Lombardo, Rich, Krupa level. Samus is a damn good drummer. To put laughing emojis at the suggestion that someone enjoy his playing better than the original is some fuckin sillyness.
@wpgspecb19 күн бұрын
@@lyndoncmp5751 Because I had never heard this song before, and only heard the drumless track first, I felt very strongly that Samus' version was amazing. This was confirmed when i dedicated 10 mins of my time to listening to the LZ remaster. Maybe its due to Sam being a great drummer? Maybe its due to the song being recorded in 1975 and the audio fidelity just isnt as good as what Drumeo put out? Maybe a combo. Who knows? But yes, this version was as good as Bonham's rendition. I would pay for a single of this version.

Hello from New England land I'm a new sub I came across the channel searching Samus vids This is pro level studio playing/learning We all know John Bonham was one of the original GOATS of heavy drumming yet Samus does such a good job I could listen to both versions haha I'm a heavy hitter and pull all kinds of stank faces when I'm playing calling things out singing along haha I noticed in your playlist you haven't gotten to Mario Duplantier from the mighty Gojira He has released a number of drum solos vids pro-shot studio quality with lights and all When I discovered Gojira Mario's playing changed my approach forever including the art of tasteful creative cymbal work as fills instead of replying more on the skins along with more technical aspects like subdivisions syncopation and the capacity to change riffs passages and section seamlessly Please do some MARIO DUPLANTIER Thx

I mean no disrespect here. 66Samus is a great drummer but this is the best example of overplaying I have ever seen. Today's drummers just overplay the shit out of everything. There's no space in drumming today, just a bunch of unnecessary fills with an insatiable desire to choke and bloat every song played. There really is a lot of truth in less is more. Just my opinion though.
@RejectHumanityReturn2Monke2 ай бұрын
And I disagree. Some songs just sounds better being overplayed, whether it be the drums, the guitars, keys, or the vocals. And not like we don't have classic songs that have unnecessary levels of fills as well. Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Rush, Zappa, they all overplay. This is the same "back in my days" argument again where people forget to check themselves first.
@boneheded28192 ай бұрын
@@RejectHumanityReturn2Monke there’s a huge difference between over playing and playing the song. Most drummers today are soloist who happen to be playing in a band instead of being a drummer in a band. If you find any musician having an epileptic seizure on his or her instrument the entire song cool then have at it. It’s your opinion to have. As far as this being a “back in my days” argument, if you’ll reread my first post, I respectfully said it was my opinion. You mentioned all of these old bands that were the epitome of what I’m saying. They all knew when to play and when NOT to play and that is a dying art. And exactly who are you to tell me to “check myself”? It’s my opinion to have and I’ll stand by it. Disagreeing just to disagree is stupid and childish. 66Samus is still a good drummer either way.
