A lot of people attribute Sikth and Meshuggah to be the forefathers of most modern progressive metal bands, as they both were quite early on the scene with this style of metal.

Yes, there's a lot of newbie ignorants in metal, the kind who also thinks Rush was inspired by Dream Theater.

@derp derpin Music is subjective, so "better" is a questionable term here. Both Sikth and Meshuggah were active a number of years earlier, and that's why I attribute this to them. Although, Fellsilent also gave birth to two of my favourite prog-metal bands: TesseracT and Monuments. My short answer is: Fellsilent was surely influential but in a later stage.

Hey! Dan Foord teaches at the uni I'm going to be attending next year. He's a beast. They were a huge influence towards the djent scene. I know the guys at Periphery cite them as one of their biggest influences. The vocalist for Periphery also did a song with them on their new album. They were one of the first push djent.

sikth is on my top 10 favorite bands of all time list. they had a quirky style (and dual vocals!!) that a lot of modern “djent” or prog metal bands dont possess. mikee’s bizarre spoken word poem tracks and the harmony choices between the two guitars really hit the weirdness sweet spot

I’ve met all these guys. I used to be involved in a festival In my home town (Uxbridge) called uxfest. It was held at a youth club called fountains mill in the car park on a truck trailer. over the years I watched them climb the bill until they head lined. Then they were too big to play our little festival. Mikey (one of their lead singers). Was involved in the festival from an early stage. Great memories of my youth. Loved every minute of it.

They are definitely considered of that pedigree. I would call this a pretty straight forward piece. Just to show the basics of heavy, syncopated, well written out stuff. When they came out, there wasnt much to compare them to. It was a big thing. I still wouldn't put him up to some of the best nowadays, even though I love the effing shit outta them. It's still heavy as hell and I can jam out all day. They were sick-th. Cheers.
