The girl, Lamya, was not a Duran Duran member, but a temporary background vocal singer....Unfortunately she died of a sudden and unexpected heart attack on 8 January 2009, while in Oman. She was 45 years old 😭😭😭💔💔💔

Loved your reaction to my fav band of all time! (so now I'm Subscribed) They've got a catalogue 40+yrs long & they like writing/playing songs outside 1 single genre & it shows by who claims them as their influencers - from The Killers to Korn's frontman JD who absolutely loves DD's song "The Chauffeur," which I understand, it's an awesome & unique style track to me bc it's a lil bit dark than their more pop/dance-centric singles or their chill vibe songs (like this 1), as well as "New Religion" (another 1 of my darker sounding favs also fr/ their 2nd 80s album 'Rio', & for drums the title track mentioned by another commenter, doesn't disappoint… 'Rio' is the only song i mentioned that was released as a single, & it's a great upbeat synth funky bass pop song; just don't get stuck only listening to their released singles from their 1st decade (they are 80s icons but not an "80s band"), so if you wanna dive deeper into them, just make sure to request non-singles, B-sides & Bonus tracks or you'll miss out on a lot of solid gems. Have fun on your DD Journey, should you choose to take it✌️

Nice one my friend Duran are so damn good So many styles So many epic tunes Duran have every style have the biggest rabbit hole to fall into And I bet you can listen to another 100 and maybe even 150 other Duran songs and you will love em all Maybe best you try the Girls on Film version from this MTV unplugged. Or Rio from this unplugged too Both will blow you away And hey……let’s not forget There’s still people out there that think Duran are just a pretty boy pop group! What idiots they are Duran play their own instruments Duran write their own songs They are the real deal and for me the best band their is , ever was and ever will be And another point Duran have a big following of metal fans / punk / goth and techno fans Just shows how diverse Duran are

Your buddy picked a great one for you. Heads up about Duran Duran, they have been around since the early 80s. At that time, they were the biggest band in the world, dubbed the Fab 5, because they were known as the Beatles of the 80s. Not so much because they sounded like the Beatles or in any way tried to be the Beatles, but because of the mass hysteria they produced in females everywhere they went. See, the original 5 were all real hotties. Unfortunately, it took decades for them to be seen as more than a good-looking "boy band." Usually, when people take a deeper dive than just their radio hits and watch live performances, that's when you realize the level of talent you are dealing with. They have overcome line up changes, being written off as a fad, not being taken seriously musically, and 40+ years to have finally been inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame last year. They are still creating music and producing new albums and touring to sold-out shows. These guys are currently in their 60s...doing that. You never know with Duran Duran what style, sound, or iteration you will get. They are full of surprises. I would say tho, if you want to explore this band, going back to the 80s might be a good place to start. You could try the official video for Rio next, or you could stay in the 90s, which is the time period of this performance. In that case, I recommend Ordinary World.

It didn't take "decades" for "them" to be seen as more than a good-looking "boy band." This is a myth & stop perpetuating this fallacy. Because many of Duran Duran's peers appreciated & respected the band. The people who marginalized Duran Duran, when the band was introduced to the world in 1981, were music critics, mate. They were music critics in their 40's & 50's who grew up listening to Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Eric Clapton & Bruce Springsteen. New Wave music & the younger generation genres was not their thing so place perspective about who the people were writing about the band.

See both your points to be honest Think as a die hard Duran fan And being 13 in 1988 when I got into Duran I knew nothing about the hey day as they say which I hate But all I know is It’s more than ok to say i love Duran and people often say back oh yes good shout i used to love them. Like umm hello, they have never stopped!! Still around 🤷🏻‍♂️ But it’s like banging your head again a brick wall Best thing about DD In the Future Past era especially, I’m coming across many early - mid 20’s people who are getting into Duran, not 80’s Duran but modern Duran and that I’ll take all day long!! Long live Duran

Yes, there were those who were dismissive of the band & as a youth, it was bothersome at that young age to read so-called "music critics" marginalizing Duran Duran. However, as I got older, I also got to know better, as a Duran Duran fan & as a general music fan, that it was "aged critics" that couldn't give a darn in the 1980s about the band. I also got to know better that there were aged critics who didn't give a darn about The Beatles & The Rolling Stones when they came out. And there are aged music critics now who don't give an arse about the new bands these days. These critics don't get new music & are stuck with the music they grew up with. So you should know better if you are matured individual that these critics are product of their musical environment and wrote with biases. What matters is what fans think about the band & not what "paid" so-called critics giving music opinions feel, think, believe & write. Even if it is positive. It's just an opinion. And even if Duran Duran were not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, it doesn't matter. But, the band is in the Rock And Roll Hall Fame and yet, you are caught up with how many years it took for the band to get into the Hall of Fame. Get over it & move on to something relevant- like their music. Like the band, I care solely about the music and how the band's music makes people. I care what Duran Duran is about. And like the band, I could not careless about awards and critics, which is not what the band is about.

So, it's not a surprise to occasionally get the, "I didn't know they were still making music." This is understandable. But, for the band to have a million+ plus KZbin subscribers is beyond having fans like me who have been with them since the start. There is going to be a broad age range of fans & this is fantastic. And this is my point to the bloke who is all caught up about the band being discounted primarily in the 1980s. It was bothersome to me that the band would get bad press. However, as I got older, I understood that these were just opinions & opinions by people who didn't comprehend New Wave bands & the music scene. Why should they? These critics grew up listening to musicians like Billy Joel, Led Zeppelin & Bruce Springsteen. You then comprehend that what these critics wrote about the band should be taken with a grain of salt because of this. And, again, they are just "opinions." Rather than focusing on great Duran Duran's music is, which it is all about the music, this bloke only cares about what "others" think. Rather than celebrate that Duran Duran is in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, this bloke is angered by how long it took the band to become inducted. This is all really silly & of irrelevance. Again, what matters is the music, what the band thinks & what the fans think. And if there is anyone else of relevance, it would be what Duran Duran's peers think ,& they have been supported by their contemporaries & by other musicians since & beyond the 1980s. Flea, Anthony Kiedis, John Frusciante, Lou Reed, Michael Hutchence, Nile Rodgers, members of Spandau Ballet to Moby, members of Blur, Gwen Stefani, Brandon Flowers, members of the Scissor Sisters, Brett Anderson, William Reid, Bob Geldolf, Justin Timberlake, Mark Ronson, members of Hole, Artic Monkeys, The Church, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Sneaker Pimps Berlin, Deftones, Barenaked Ladies & even Keanu Reeves, who has his own band, and many, many others. It's how Duran Duran makes fans feel & how they influence their fellow musicians is what matters. It's not putting currency into what people who don't know how to write a hit song as music critics believe & write nor is it about getting awards, especially when one is given, as an inductee to the penultimate music award, The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, to be so petty to complain how long it took the band to get in. Good Grief to that commenter being caught up in this nonsense.
