I've been a fan of Duran Duran since I first saw Planet Earth on MTV in the very early 80s. Then hair metal came along and I went that direction. Then Progressive metal. Now death metal. lol That said, my wife and I went to see these guys at the Hollywood Bowl in Sept 2022. Worth every penny. Saw them again in Sacramento in August of 2023. 🤘

I found an interesting interview to Tessa Niles on Rolling Stone Magazine a couple of years ago, she said a lot of things and told about her vocals on Come Undone too, here is the extract: “I remember that Nick [Rhodes] and he were basically producing the session and asking me to jump through various vocal hoops and try different things on the chorus and try it in different ways. My initial idea for the female vocal was quite soft and breathy and sexy. I think at one point, Nick said, “Listen, unleash the diva. Just go for it. Bring her out and let’s see what you got.” I tried all sorts of different things and didn’t quite realize it was a solo piece in a way. It turns out to be such a fabulous thing for me since so many people remember the track and like it and like the vocals”

Thanks for sharing that, i love her part so much, and the way she delivered it - it has some raspy breathy quality but also some soulful power!

They played D.C. last year and I couldn't believe it. My wife's favorite band, and aside from the hits that I knew they kept the energy going, even with their recent releases. Duran Duran put on a great concert, and this song is definitely a highlight.

Fantastic reaction, I could talk with you for hours about Simons vocals. Question: I've always wondered what his range is? Also, there are some pretty current interviews with him on his singing and how he likes to play with his voice and do the opposite of "how it should be done" a bit of a rebel lol. Another interview where he goes back to his childhood church where he was a choir boy and talks with his Master about his training ( where he learned his love of harmonizing) they even listen to a recording of him from his Chior boy days, its so dang sweet. CHEERS 🍻

@YourOnlineSingingCoach the one where he goes back to his church was a Showtime special called There's the Something you Should Know. The other where he talks about doing the opposite, is pretty recent. It's in regards to the Future Past album and working with Giorgio Moroder 😃

They have always been incredible and very under rated because of the boy and stigma. They were a boy band and a dance band and rock band all rolled into one! One of my favorites from them! As for tone, obviously the studio version is beautifully sung and produced but hey, as long as he can hit those notes at his age he can sing them any way he wants to! 😊❤

Finally, a coach reacts to Simon… Thank you so much. As far as the way he sings the chorus, It’s almost like he’s aging in reverse with his voice.. usually younger than people careers they belt a bit more. … and then mix later on when they’re a bit older and their strength fades. That hasn’t happened in his case… which is kind of extraordinary

Nice reaction Juliet. If I was to dare to presume, I'd say this kind of 'pop' sound is up there as your favourite style of singing and music - you looked like you really enjoyed that one 🙂 There's a definite progression in the overall production compared to their earlier '80s hits - not surprising, I suppose. Good song 👏👏👏 Thanks for the chat too. Enjoy breakfast, I'm having dinner now...

Thank you for this review. Instant sub! It's useful without going on for a half hour. I love this song, and it too is a masterpiece although not as highly regarded as Ordinary World. If it was released today, it would be a monster hit because of its deep melodies and sexy mystique. I'd love to hear your analysis of A View To A Kill. I know, there are just so many... but there, I will choose one!

Simon's vocals are what made me a Duranie in the first place, period. Of course, I love the music as well, but his voice is absolutely what pulled me in. I really appreciated the analysis of his voice here! If you do want to do more DD, definitely look into "Ordinary World". His falsetto in the album version is incredible; and even though he can't always hit those notes live, what he does differently is just as beautiful - check out an acoustic version of OW for that!

The guitar effect you mentioned could be a chorus pedal, flanger pedal, or phaser like you said. Or it could've been added during the mix with effects.

The guitar sound is probably a bit of delay with a bit of chorus or flanger added to it... The Smiths guitarist also used similar affects.. He also daisy chained 4 Fender blackface amps together to get stereo delay. The result was awesome.. To hear that sound.. Listen to the Smiths- "How soon is Now?"

@@YourOnlineSingingCoach glad I could help a bit 😊 I love 80s bands that have a bit of a darker vibe especially Depeche Mode.. Tons of their stuff is dark sounding but still happy.. They have a lot of minor keys in their songs.. And they got me into techno and E.D.M. I also love the Cure.. The Smiths... Psychedelic Furs.. Pet shop boys... I should have been born 10 years earlier lol.. I was born in 83.. So I'm on the tail end of all the good music 😄 but I absolutely love the darker more melancholy Depeche Mode stuff. ❤ "precious" is a great song by them.. I think they recorded it in 2005 but it still has an 80s vibe at least in my mind. 😊

I know, I'm late, I have something called #EDS & it decideds when/if i can do things… So, i really hope you're still checking comments on this one bc I don't like making requests for a diff artist on vids reacting to someone else. I feel like those requests are ntrusive in the comments, which (IMHO) should be about the musician or song the vid was made for… But, if you do see this, lemme know bc i have a cpl questions, including about Siimon's voice & vocal style changes, as well as requests related to diff songs that almost nvr get requested bc ppl usu just ask for their 80 hits +2 from "The Wedding Album" that leaves out almost 3 decades of their catalogue. Anyway, thanks for being 1 of only 2 or 3 vocal coaches who've reacted to them: Liked √, Subscribed √ & commented√… 😉 Well gotta stop here as my hands are already spasming/shaking, which means finger dislocations are coming nxt (gross,i know) so gotta wrap it up & no use goin into more specifics, if ur too busy & can't see it… (even if that's the case, I'm still thrilled with your reaction & attn to detail), so thx!
