Watched a interview with Sully and Shannon about the "Drum Battle". It IS a choreographed solo, but they tend to improvise the dills each one plays just to challenge themselves and mix it up a bit. They are an amazing band, with really kick AZZ 🎵 talent .

Saw them live 3 times in the early 2000’s. Amazing show! The drum battle was a staple feature in every concert I’ve seen.. they always played this drum battle at the very end of the night.

Fun fact, Sully before Godsmack was always the drummer for any bands that he was in. He started drumming first and picked everything else up later. Absolutely loved seeing these drum battles live

Singer, songwriter, teacher, multi instrumentalist SULLY ERNA is a badass!!!!!!!!
@graciefolden23592 жыл бұрын
He was a drummer first; Salvatore Paul Erna Jr. (Sully) began playing drums at the age of three. His father, Salvatore Erna Sr., was a trumpet player from Sicily and would rehearse in the basement where Sully would watch. His great-uncle was a famous composer in Sicily. At the age of 11, Sully discovered that it was easier for him to listen to something and play it than read sheet music. He stopped taking lessons and practiced at home, rehearsing to records by Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Motörhead, and Rush.

I’ve been to 3 or 4 Godsmack concerts. I always look forward to the drum battle. These two are two of the best drummers ever!

Correct my friend, it wasn't a drum battle. It's a break in the show for the drummers to play off one another. Considering Sully Erna & Shannon Larkin are best friends in real life, there essentially was NO Battle, just two guys having a blast! By the way, Sully also plays Piano and Saxophone. LOL.. Seriously.. Great Reaction Jason! A+

Saw Godsmack open for Metallica in 2005. I went to see Metallic and I left with Godsmack being my favorite band (still are), and much of it was due to this drum battle.

the only wrong thing about this is the video's title. This is not a battle, is not versus, it is a fucking awesome colaboration! AMAZING!

Thanks Jason. Always fun to watch this. Kinda reminds me of the Buddy Rich v Gene Krupa drum battles, where there was really only one winner. However Sully Erna gives Shannon Larkin a good run for his money on this showing.

Sully started off as a drummer, played from age 3. He supposedly recorded some of the drums on their first 2 albums as well. He plays a range of other instruments as well. All around great musician. Word is they are recording another album right now, and it may be their last. Sully's drum inspirations were Neil Peart and John Bonham, and he played/practiced a lot of Aerosmith and Motorhead as well as a kid, that's why you hear some bits of YYZ Rush, Walk This Way Aerosmith, and Moby Dick Zeppelin in this etc.. I've seen this performance live twice, and it was amazing both times. Side Note: The KZbin video for that video is titled incorrectly. This piece is officially named Batalla De Los Tambores. Translated it's Battle of the Drums. Then someone dumbed it down and titles it to Drum Battle haha so it always gets interpreted as being a freestyle drum battle, when it actually is a choreographed and rehearsed piece. It is not a battle called "Battle of the Drums", but a song called "Battle of the Drums" haha. Whoever titled the original video has misled many drum reactors, not intentionally, but it makes people go in to that first listen with different expectations. Enjoyed your reaction and thoughts! There is a good drum playthrough of Shannon performing Straight Out Of Line, which is an awesome watch!

since You are new to Godsmack, The Lead Singer, Sully Erna, arriving playing hand prec., is a VERY accomplised both session and live drummer. In their live show Sully and the primary drummer , Shannon Larkin, so a sing-back type "drum battle" in the middle of the show. Hen

The second part starts with Sully paying tribute to RUSH and Neil Peart with the Intro to YYZ, then Aerosmith, Zepplin, then back to YYZ for the final. ~R.

Sully is an amazing musician. Check out his solo project. They are responsible for one some of the best music ever written. A great example is a song called 7 Years by Sully Erna. I hope you will give it a chance.

In their documentary they describe this as a battle due to the drum fills that are random. You'll see Sully complete a fill that is made up on the fly and then Shannon responds with a fill as competition.

Sully has said he and Shannon wanted to do this battle and just got on the kits and did it. Since they have tried to do a better version but they can't come up with anything better

@@JasonSayersDrums I’m almost positive your being sarcastic because that video is the worst filmed drum solo in the history of the world. The camera man should be shot on sight.
