'Mother Father' is the most challenging song to perform according to Steve, but he loved doing it and his performance is amazing. It took so much out of him Jon Cain played a piano solo to give Steve time to get his breath back before continuing.

People often fail to realize how incredibly talented each member of this particular lineup was. I’ve seen Journey twice with Arnel and they are even better live. Purists say Arnel is no Steve and they’re correct of course. But Arnel is about as close to Steve as they could hope for, and he gave them a second act that was otherwise not happening.

My Mom was much older than she should have been. When I was 18 and became a big fan of Journey (during their Escape tour,), she was 60 years old. Back in the early 2000's, having moved to North Carolina, I invited my Mom to come stay with me to escape the New England winters for a few months. That is when she got to hear Journey and their music as I played the albums and she had a chance to discover them for herself. She was in her 80's when she first heard Faithfully as well as all their other songs. It surprised the hell out of me when I learned one day that Faithfully was her favorite song of all and she would sing along with Perry doing the back up vocals, lol. She grew up loving Elvis and was big into Glen Campbell. She passed away at 94 in 2016, but I will always think of her when I hear this song.

Steve is and remains the best, nobody sings like him. For me they were much better live than in the studio. But I think “Faithfully” in the video version is great, it gets under your skin even more, perfectly tailored to the words. Be sure to check out the “Escape” concert, especially “Mother,Father”, “Lovin Touchin Squeezin”, “Open Arms” “anyway you want it” and more. Also great was the “Raised on Radio” tour with “i'll be allright without you” “Girl's can't help ist”, unfortunately without Steve Smith and Ross Valory, which was a shame, I thought Steve was just awesome on drums and Ross was a great bass player.
