John Paul Jones played bass, keys, and acoustic guitar & mandolin (during the acoustic portion of their concerts). The keys he’s playing during Stairway are a Melotron during the intro, then electric piano and bass lines on foot pedals.

Greetings from Canada. On the album, Jonesy plays 3 different recorders at the start. For live performances he preloaded a Mellotron with them... which he plays them with his fingers, while his feet play bass pedals. Peace, love and bellbottoms.

So happy to get more Zeppelin on the channel!! It's not the live one I requested a while ago but my fingers are still crossed you'll get around to it someday. When JPJ is on the keys, he uses foot pedals for the bass. There is nobody else is on stage with them when they create their magic.🤘🤘

This is one of the first songs I remember hearing as a small child. I remember the guitar parts. Yes the whole song, but specifically the incredibly beautiful guitar there’s something so magical about it that I think really appeals to a sense of wonder that those of us who’re musicians have for the greats.

I love this song and I absolutely love Led Zeppelin! I grew up listening to their music and it is still so much a part of my life. Yes, that is John Paul Jones on Keyboard there. I love their "Celebration Day Tour" video and I would have loved to have been there at that concert. My favorite Led Zeppelin songs are "The Song Remains the Same", "The Rain Song", "Kashmir", "Stairway to Heaven", "Ramble On", "Good Times Bad Times", "All My Love", "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", "Since I've Been Loving You", "Thank You", "The Immigrant Song". A friend of mine lives very close to Robert Plant and his friend is dying of brain cancer. Robert Plant sang him a song on his cell phone and sent it to him and wished him well. I was so blessed to be able to see it and then delete it as requested to do. Led Zeppelin with all of it's fame and fortune was made up of humans and most people like to lump them all together as people that are not very caring or decent and that is false. Their music touched so many people's lives and still does today.

"Stairway To Heaven" is their most famous song & considered by many as one of the all time best. Led Zeppelin have a huge library of hits. "Immigrant Song", "Whole Lotta Love", "Black Dog", "Ramble On", "Kashmir", "When The Levee Breaks", “Dazed & Confused”, “Since I’ve Been Loving You”, "Rock & Roll", "The Ocean", "Over The Hills & Far Away", "The Song Remains The Same", "The Rain Song", "Good Times Bad Times" etc.

I enjoy their performance of a lot of their songs during the five nights of this gig - In My Time of Dying during the 25 May performance was outstanding - but I admit that for Stairway to Heaven, I think their 1973 Madison Square Garden performance was better. I think you'd enjoy it even more so if you've got the time, I recommend that you give it a watch.

I was in the audience here. Amazing concert ! Two or three months before the show I was very early in line to buy my tickets at Earl’s Court which were to on sale at midday. By 10:00 am the crowd was so packed and getting more and more impatient and boisterous that us early arrivals were being pushed by the yobs at the back and things were going sour. Fortunately the organizers must have seen what was going on and they opened the ticket counters at around 10:15. Nearly got Trampled Underfoot !

And this is why I can’t have a favorite guitar player It would be Stevie Ray Vaughan hands-down But I can’t do it because Jimmy page exists. That tone that incredible tone he’s just so musically gifted. He is wasted here as he has said in interviews. And still, this is what you get. Just absolutely incredible yes, John Paul Jones this was really his masterpiece, but I could never get around Jimmy. He’s just so good. Sadly, Robert Plant refuses to sing 'Stairway to Heaven' in concert anymore... the last time he did was in 2007 at Led Zeppelin's reunion and final concert for charity. Yes, John Paul Jones plays keyboards as well as bass... he was Led Zeppelin's secret weapon behind the scenes and onstage because he was a trained musician, composer, producer, arranger and a multi-instrumentalist. Led Zeppelin never used offstage musicians as far as I know... Unfortunately, that meant that if any band members were tired or not feeling well, they sounded rather shaky in concert. From what Zeppelin's studio engineers recalled... John Bonham and John Paul Jones were the best rhythm section they had ever recorded... they would complete their drums and bass tracks in 1 or 2 takes (which was unreal!) ... And in concert, if Jimmy Page's playing was sloppy... or Robert Plant's voice was not all there... John Bonham could always save the day w/ his incredible performances on the drums and John Paul Jones was always a reliable presence in the back that kept the Zeppelin steady.

@@setonhillstudiosdo the Royal Albert Hall (1970) Moby Dick solo, you can see what Bonham is doing better. Live at Knebworth (1979) Achilles Last Stand & Kashmir, for great Bonham drumming. Dazed & Confused at Royal Albert Hall (1970) for drumming too. I know it’s been quite awhile since you’ve done Zeppelin, so not sure what all you’ve heard. Fool In The Rain is another great Bonham song, but then they all are, he stands out.
