If you knew how good his early stuff is. Born for music. His godfather was Les Paul. Timeless San Francisco sound. Interracial 60's band. And Boz Scaggs.

Steve Miller was born and initially raised in Milwaukee. His parents were extremely close with Les Paul and Mary Ford and were the Best Man and Matron of Honor at Les and Mary's wedding. They moved to Dallas where Steve was school friebds with Biz Scaggs. After getting kicked out of thay school, he graduated ftom another school. A few years later, Dusty Hill (RIP) of ZZ Top graduated from the same school.

You should give his "My Dark Hour" a listen. He liked the riff so much he brought it back for "Fly Like an Eagle". It also features a well known left handed bass player, who actually played drums and provides vocal support.

This was Steve Miller's first hit song way back in 1967. The album you are referring to, is a "Best of" Steve Miller Band album that spans two decades. I think I was 12 years old when this came out, and now I'm 68. It goes fast.

I haven't heard that in ages and it just makes you want to get up and dance. And as a musician it makes me want to play the bass guitar line to it really badly, laugh. You have to check out My Dark Hour. Steve Miller was a relative unknown in 1969 and he's in England to record with the band. I'll let one of your fabs explain it better than me. "Steve Miller happened to be there recording, late at night, and he just breezed in. 'Hey, what's happening, man? Can I use the studio?' 'Yeah!' I said. 'Can I drum for you? I just had a ****ing unholy argument with the guys there.' I explained it to him, took ten minutes to get it off my chest. So I did a track, he and I stayed that night and did a track of his called My Dark Hour. I thrashed everything out on the drums. There's a surfeit of aggressive drum fills, that's all I can say about that. We stayed up until late. I played bass, guitar and drums and sang backing vocals. It's actually a pretty good track. It was a very strange time in my life and I swear I got my first grey hairs that month. I saw them appearing. I looked in the mirror, I thought, I can see you. You're all coming now. Welcome." - Paul McCartney
