I lived just outside La Grange for years. I'm actually old enough to remember the whole "Chicken Ranch " scandal when it happened. It was an infamous brothel, well known enough to be frequented by a number of Texas politicians and the Texas A&M football team.

Wow! 🤣 I had never heard about that! This song is so good and grooves for days! 😎

I got to see them shortly after this blasted out over the radio (it was like nothing I'd ever heard on the radio before). When I attended their concert, I could not believe the solid wall of sound coming from just 3 people. I still love them just as much today.

I know right!! It’s crazy that it’s only a 3-piece band! They definitely know what to play to make it sound massive!

You picked the best version of La Grange that I have ever heard, and I was a senior in high school when it was released and saw ZZ Top live four times over the decades.

The thing about ZZ Top is that although what they do is superficially simple no-one, but no-one, makes a sound like them - even if you hear a super competent band covering one of their songs, it's just not the same
@setonhillstudios9 ай бұрын
Great point! They have their own distinct sound like many great bands of that era. Sometimes imitated but never duplicated!
@tobeski9 ай бұрын
@@setonhillstudios I read a guitar book a while ago that basically said "This might contain the chords for ZZ Top songs but you'll never make it sound like Billy Gibbons because he's the king of pinch harmonics"

I don't see a double bass. What do you mean this groove can't be duplicated? It belongs to John Lee Hooker.

I thought he had a double bass pedal. Will have to go back and watch. Either way it was a killer performance from the whole band! Thanks for swinging by!
