Perfect answer, really practical thought out advice and not overly mushy like some channels. Great stuff :)

For me, I always thought of it as a paraphrase of something Tommy Igoe said about playing unisons. If you're burying your beater because that's the sound you want then fine, but if you're burying your beater because you aren't able to play a bounce? Well...that's a technique issue. Basically you are lacking a skill you should have.

A very timely lesson. I was just discussing this with a novice student yesterday. Thanks!

Thank you so much!! Never expected to get a full episode as my answer! Good to hear about it in context of how it will sound from a pa: and only coming off half an inch is great economy: and as you said i couldnt see that you were coming that half inch off from above. Thank you again!!

I've only been playing for a couple of months now. I definitely bury they beater. It would be a great time to learn how not too but when I try it's super hard for me.

I try and tell all new comers to music to ask, "Why" not "How". There is more to be learned when you ask WHY. "How did you do that fill?" "It's a 7 stroke roll." vs "Why did you do that fill there, that was sweet." ::Explains years of playing in a live setting, and musical composition that lead to his decision to put that fill in that specific spot:: Although you may also get the.. "I dunno.. a 7 stroke roll sounded good, so I did it." Either way, you will still find out the HOW. But you may also walk way with a better understanding, or a different approach to music.

Be careful with burying your beater because if you're not careful, the bass drum head might actually break at some point. I have broken 2 bass drum heads over the act of 3 years and now I have learned to play differently ^^

Very simple, for that dry sound, kick stuffed with pillows, blankets and shit, it doesn't really matter. It's ok to bury... But if you want that huge, resonant kick drum sound, then don't bury it, you'll get much more cleaner "boom" sound.

My new SPEED COBRA beaters stick to my head. How do I stop that???

So I personally HATE the beaters that come with the iron and speed cobras. Go on amazon and snag a rounded felt beater for $20 or $25.

@@StephenTaylorDrums thanks 😊. Yeah I love the pedals and you're right not to like the beaters. Cheers

I can't stand the sound of the tiny sizzle sound when I bury.
