I myself never really paid attention to the baseline but it's really good! PS. Incase you didn't know, Mafumafu is a male artist who is known for his very unique and powerful yet soft vocal range. For a lot of people this is the song that got them into Mafumafu, including me.

I recommend Yuu Miyashita. He's also an utaite and is really versatile with his voice. He often does covers of Nilfruits songs and his vocal range in some songs are absolutely insane. Wozwald, Koufukuron, or Non-Breath Oblige are the ones I think you should look into

@@justdoit8683ea and when he went to his voice trainer he just kept on going higher and higher till they were like “ok I ran out of keys, we get that you can go high now sing lower” But I would also reccomend listening to his Kouhaku ver of the same song (he sang it live as part of an annual New Years singing competition) which he was so good half the people couldn’t believe it was his actual voice lmfao. Might only exist on Bilibili now though. Also the translation for Hated by Life Itself got messed up sometime during early pandemic which is why it’s called Life Hates us Now and the lyrics aren’t as accurate anymore. Think it was right before community contributions got disabled.

This is actually a cover! Kanzaki Iori is the writer and producer of the original song. The original vocals are actually synthesized. I love the original for the vocal harmonies - it has a lot of that lower voice in uncomfortable intervals to the main, and many of the verses have a spacey higher 5th interval harmony that is really haunting. The Vocaloid sounds so harsh compared to the warmth of a human singing. Mafumafu's delivery of this song is incredible but it is also interesting to listen to the original as well as Iori Kanzaki's own vocal cover of it.

oh my god YES I was hoping you'd react to this song at some point! As some of the other comments already noted, this was originally a Vocaloid song by Iori Kanzaki with Hatsune Miku singing, but I gotta say, the tuning style for Miku in the original is... odd. Even most hardcore Vocaloid fans tend to prefer covers over the original, and this cover is by far the most beloved for Mafumafu's sheer intensity. That said, there's a live concert arrangement of this song (performed at Magical Mirai 2020) with Miku's vocals newly retuned, and it sounds GORGEOUS. It's a much slower arrangement, more of a melancholy feel than the original's frantic despair, but in that final chorus when the lyrics turn just a little more hopeful, that arrangement NAILS the shift. Again, that version has Miku's vocals, and we all know you have mixed feelings about her sound, but the performance is nonetheless very much worth checking out.

Its interesting that in this song it says 2 times how we contradict ourselves by "not caring if we die, but are sad if someone else dies" And at the end the lyrics tell us how nothing matters to it as long as the listener(us) are alive, telling the same contradiction. There is another cover of this song by kobasolo and aizawa with a completely different feel. You might enjoy it in your free time. I also really like mafumafu’s cover of ‘dear doppelgänger.’

I would just like to point out that there are some errors in the translation of the lyrics given here. Brace yourselves, because this is a long one. The song title itself is technically correct, though I would personally say that it would be more accurate to write it as "Hated by Life." Though this is a minor nitpick. "They say everyone should sing a song like that" would be more accurately translated as "How foolish it is to say that those kind of songs are correct." The line "Because we just wouldn't like to be sad" adds in the word sad. The original translation is, in a way, a bit more childish, saying "Because I/We don't want that." The line "Squeezing out our values and egos" should be "Forcing our values and egos on others." "We say we don't want our life. As if life is always there" should be "Frivolously saying we want to die and looking at life thoughtlessly." "Since we've got no money, we enjoy idle sleeps throughout the day" should be "I/We have no money, so throughout today as well, I/We sing praises to indolence." "We still continue to breathe realizing we are nothing" should be "I/We realize it's pointless and take a breath." "'I feel lonely,' these three words is not expressive enough for this wound," would be better translated as "Is it really fine to express this wound with words like 'I'm lonely?'" "I lie on my bed alone" should be "I sleep on my bed alone." "Growing old, one day we go down like fallen leaves" should be "Growing old, one day we decay like dead leaves." While "But still, we want others to live" could be a possible translation, another one could be "But those around me still want me to live." I would personally say it would be something like "I want those around me to live" based on the context. "They might say it is wrong to live with such contradictions" would be better translated as "Living while carrying such contradictions, I feel like they'll get mad at me." "Never understanding what 'happiness' is, we just hate the life we are given and curse the pasts we had" should be translated "Without understanding the meaning of 'happiness,' we loathe the life we were born into and simply curse our pasts." "Simply cherishing the idea of the word 'goodbye'" would be better translated as "We who like the phrase 'goodbye' too much." One of the most notable translation errors is in the--I'm not a music expert so forgive me if I use the wrong term--bridge, which flat out omits a part of the original line. This translation goes "Happiness, farewells, affection, and friendship; they're all illusions." While the first part listing the four things is correct, the second part could be translated something like: "they're all just things that can be bought with money, within a joke of an absurd dream." "Everything might just end up being nothing" would be better translated as "Everything might just end up being pointless." "As long as you are still here, that's all we need" would be better translated as "If you are alive, it's all fine." The translation for the Mafumafu version has always been strange, because it was originally a lot more accurate, but then it changed. And I feel like the changed version is not as effective as conveying some of the themes of the song, and may cause some to misconstrue what certain parts of the song are trying to say (namely the whole "illusion" thing in the bridge).
