I know of a male who is transitioning to female who is currently on estrogen transdermally. I can't find reliable information, but do you know if estrogen therapy (patches) causes an increase risk of prostate or any other cancer in men?

Great question! Interestingly, estrogen may help reduce prostate cancer. Here is a paper but do some more searches and make sure. Good question, but no, negative feedback is not a bad thing. It means the body is responding to changes appropriately. For example, if testosterone levels are low, then the hypothalamus tells the anterior pituitary to make more LH that will stimulate the Leydig cells to make more, bringing the testosterone levels back into balance. The same would happen if a hormone was too high, then less is produced and brings the levels back to normal. A positive feedback loop is when the response increases the initial situation, such as during the birthing process, the uterine contractions cause oxytocin to continue increasing the uterine contractions. So positive and negative feedback are both good and important in various situations. Hope that makes sense :)
