This episode is so personal to me, because I went through something similar to Starlight, I have been there for my friends over and over and over but the one time someone came to me for help and I turned him away and later found out that that was the one time I needed to be there the most (turns out he committed suicide and he came to me for the help to talk him out of it), it struck the chord for me. It showcases that there needed to be balance, come for the important things, and occasionally for the smaller things

I think that they may be setting up Starlight and her friends to take over for the Mane 6 at the school, just as the Young 6 seem like they will take over for the Mane 6 as the Elements of Harmony. We already know that Starlight is going to be the next Head Mare, and that when she filled in for Twilight before, she made Trixie and Maud substitute teachers. I could definitely see Sunburst as a teacher. Mudbrair, however, would probably need some more development before he taught at a school for friendship....

Given the way Trixie was treating that guy, my headcanon is Trixie could tell he had a crush on Starlight and was coming up with a problem to spend more time with Starlight. Trixie, a master of illusions and trickery, sees through this and is bucking him to the curb at every chance. I have a feeling you'll be doing a cover of that villain song at a con later this year. For me the lesson is quite easy: it's not for me but those that started with the show back in season 1, and have still been watching, and are now off to college/work and are dealing with this exact issue.
