@Hakageryuu that's what I was thinking. When Garak was in his right mind and really wanted someone taken out, he did is fast and efficient. This behaviour here is due to the drug which cost him the victory (thankfully). We saw how scary he was taking out elite soldiers one by one at the beginning of the episode before the drug fully took over.

I know people took this as O'Brien beats Garak, but can we talk about how Garak is actually high as a kite here? if he was in his right mind and not going off on a xenophobic rage with the need to gloat and provoke he could have taken them out easily, they wouldn't even have seen him coming. Garak uses his chatty persona as a shield, but the few times when he actually went after someone he did it FAST. So he's definitely not at his best in this episode and still scary as hell.

@hagamapama
@hagamapama 8 жыл бұрын
I think that sequence was part of Section 31's exit strategy to prevent their virus from becoming guaranteed genocide. They did the sacrificial Sloan gambit once before in Inter Arma Enim Silent Legis, and they pulled it again to get the cure to Odo because Odo proved he could be trusted Even section 31 is made up of Federation citizens after all. If you watch the capture sloan scene, nearly every point along the chain of events is O'brien's idea. He's carefully stage managing events to force Bashir to come away with the cure and only the cure. The best part is that because Bashir trusts O'brien like he didn't trust Admiral Ross, he isn't even susipicious that he s being played, so he gets to be the victim of the same gambit twice i particularly love how O'Brien is able to keep up with Bashir's "vastly superior" genetically engineered mind, in a realm of the mind, during the scene when they're in Sloan's head. there is definitely more to Miles O'Brien than meets the eye.

Everyone here trying to cope with Miles getting beat up by Garak. Garak is the James Bond of Caradassia while Miles is a middle aged mechanic who fought in the previous generation's war. Miles is in terrible PHYSICAL condition, I bet he could throw a mean punch but the odds of him landing it on GARAK are laughable.

So in the future they fight with some kind of housecat kung fu stance? Holding your hands like that doesn't help you. Of course the famous Star Trek palm strike and double handed punch don't either.

All that rolling around, he could have easily just picked up one of the dropped phasers, but I guess that's not an "engineer" solution.

Im not sure what he did, here? I mean, it looked like the PHASER exploded, but I recall a detonating hand PHASER rocking the ship, on Star Trek.

Maybe set to stun, lol. Probably a controlled explosion through the tricorder
@logicplague2077
@logicplague2077 2 жыл бұрын
Whatever it was, it wasn't the typical overload we've seen phasers do in the past because it also required the tricorder.
@springbloom5940
@springbloom5940 2 жыл бұрын
@@logicplague2077 Well, I assume the tricorder was used to trigger it. But, for an overload, thats really fast and the amount of power in that thing, would probably take out multiple decks of a ship.

@@springbloom5940 Agreed, that's also something I hadn't thought about, that was really fast for an overload.

i like this ep cuz it reminded me of a halloween ep. what i dont like about it, is it feels under developed. they never explained why the psychotropic drug was created and how it was spread. it was never explained why the cardashians werent just killed instead of allowed to live. also obrien acted rather hateful in this ep. like, instead of trying to stun garak, he just straight up tried to kill him. which obrien has shown hate and racism to other species in the past.

Spend years in the trenches fighting trained soldiers and you tend to not pull your punches when people are out to kill you. The bio weapon was indeed poorly explained.

O'Brien is a veteran of the Cardassian Border Wars. Up until the battle of Setlik III he never killed anyone, never even swatting a mosquito as he grew up. During part of the Setlik III battle, he was holed up with a few survivors, a Cardassian found them and one of the survivors threw O'Brien a phaser, what he didn't know was it was set to maximum and in an attempt to defend himself and the survivors he ended up vaporizing the invading Cardassian right then and there, this incident would haunt him for the rest of his life. Recounting the story in 2367 (TNG's 4th Season episode "The Wounded") he would end it by saying to a visiting Cardassian Glinn "It's not you I hate Cardassian, I hate what I became because of you."

I'm not really buying the exploding phaser part. It should've destroyed the entire section and opened the outer hull, but it just popped like a firecracker. I'd have believed if his commbadge triggered the phaser to wide angle spray the entire area. I guess he could've pulled the power cell and rigged something less damaging...

I think RDM even admitted during the TNG days that they could never have a realistic phaser fight because even a basic hand phaser is able to vaporize a building from miles away.
