@hagamapama8 жыл бұрын
I think that sequence was part of Section 31's exit strategy to prevent their virus from becoming guaranteed genocide. They did the sacrificial Sloan gambit once before in Inter Arma Enim Silent Legis, and they pulled it again to get the cure to Odo because Odo proved he could be trusted Even section 31 is made up of Federation citizens after all. If you watch the capture sloan scene, nearly every point along the chain of events is O'brien's idea. He's carefully stage managing events to force Bashir to come away with the cure and only the cure. The best part is that because Bashir trusts O'brien like he didn't trust Admiral Ross, he isn't even susipicious that he s being played, so he gets to be the victim of the same gambit twice i particularly love how O'Brien is able to keep up with Bashir's "vastly superior" genetically engineered mind, in a realm of the mind, during the scene when they're in Sloan's head. there is definitely more to Miles O'Brien than meets the eye.

O'Brien is a veteran of the Cardassian Border Wars. Up until the battle of Setlik III he never killed anyone, never even swatting a mosquito as he grew up. During part of the Setlik III battle, he was holed up with a few survivors, a Cardassian found them and one of the survivors threw O'Brien a phaser, what he didn't know was it was set to maximum and in an attempt to defend himself and the survivors he ended up vaporizing the invading Cardassian right then and there, this incident would haunt him for the rest of his life. Recounting the story in 2367 (TNG's 4th Season episode "The Wounded") he would end it by saying to a visiting Cardassian Glinn "It's not you I hate Cardassian, I hate what I became because of you."
@turbopokey7 жыл бұрын
I'm not really buying the exploding phaser part. It should've destroyed the entire section and opened the outer hull, but it just popped like a firecracker.
