I don't know how they do it. Just one day and I would be ready to put Ed in memory care and those places are awful. Even the best ones don't offer good care. Medically they are fine but no one on one care. Patients are pretty much on their own. They wander the halls alone all day.

Having lived independently for most of his life, he became accustomed to getting up and going somewhere, anywhere, just at his free will. My husband lost his independence at 51 due to multiple strokes. He’s 69 now. He still misses driving whenever and wherever he wants. I work hard every day to help maintain his dignity even though he cannot communicate, make decisions, and a host of other things. My heart broke when grandpa said all he had was in one room. I can almost hear my husband’s voice as he looks around Dan’s room with a bit of childlike jealousy. It’s extremely depressing and trying to be a caregiver, but it’s worth it to have your loved one still here.

Anyhow let's remember Dr. Ed 92 year old man dealing with Dementia and what ever Dan says to him to comfort him Grandpa will again and again ask those questions. I think Dan and his lovely wife, and brother Mark too, are doing fine job with Dr. Ed. I am proud of that family and we should all wish them the very best.

Bless grampa Ed’s heart. His generation(same as my grandparents) were raised during era of the depression hence home ownership and being in your home was highly important. My grandparents were adamant about staying in their home until the end, even with my sisters and I asking them to move in with one of us. It was difficult to care for them, for their meals, basic necessities healthcare and upkeep of their home. Especially since my sisters and I all have young families. My grampa lived until 100 and my nana 98. I miss them every single day.

My grandma is like your Dad! Every time I come to visit her, she asks me the same questions like: who I am, where do I live, do I have any children etc. After giving her all these answers she starts asking them again and sometimes it’s really exhausting to repeat it over and over again. So my respect to you for being so patient.

It's tough when he sees it as all the years of hard work have been reduced to "his room" and says "nice socks I'm gonna have to get some like that" or "you have lots of room to walk around" and when I say "it's tough" I mean on you Dan. Momentarily (seconds) for Pop but it resonantes for you. I applaud you keeping so calm and patient but please don't let it hurt for too long. I remember these days with my Mom. It's not easy but the sundowning won't last and the next moment will stumble upon you. Let it find you with your chin up, your voice soothing and your soul peaceful. Hi everyone, Even though Grandpa Ed thinks that is all he has ended up with is his room, but the rest of Dan’s home is his too, the loverly outside patio, the pool, the food, company everyday, lunches out most days he is very lucky really. Some elderly people have nobody. Now that is very sad. Love to you all 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
