I've been using the FS700 since it was new. It is still my main camera all these years later and with an external recorder, the picture is still pretty awesome. This review is spot on pointing out the weight and the noise issues. Weight is a struggle but with the right exposure, the noise is pretty easy to mitigate. Alistair Chapman did a streaming episode with ProAVTV a few months back about the FS7m2 and he pointed out that every camera purchase is a business decision. I have a full calendar of bookings for filming and a list of happy clients so when I consider upgrading an FS7, FS5 or even the FX9 I have a hard time justifying the expense. I would love an FX9...I've watched the Philip Bloom movie TWICE but at $12,000 (after batteries, cards etc) I can't pull the trigger when the need just isn't there.....yet.

Excellent review. Here in Brazil it is a very underrated camera. Mine doesn't change for anything, I use it exclusively in corporate jobs and some coverage of low light events. Despite the difficulty of handling, I preferred to adapt to it than to be like a madman wanting to buy each new camera model that the brands launch every month. If you have patience with it, you get great results. Still, I love the camera. With Atomos then, it’s not even mentioned, when I used it the first time I was impressed. If you keep an eye on maintaining the exposure in the right way, the noise does not interfere so much in my opinion. Congratulations on the channel.

Love the image quality of them and you kind of figure out how to get around the ergonimics. I like the boxy feel with the top screen when going handheld personally. Caleb, I followed your advice 4 months ago and bought the FS700R. I never regretted it, it's a great camera, even in FullHD, the colors and handling are much better than Sony A6400 which I also own. FS700 produces awesome cinematic look, it does not overheat (you can shoot 3 hours straight no problem), and battery life is really great. I also love the short flange E-mount, you can use basically any lens you find around with it. It's a shame they did not do the crop function in FullHD mode, since the sensor has so much overhead. I also got myself an even cheaper FS100, which is pretty much the same for FullHD. Now, if the FS100/700 were fullframe, they'd be priceless. :)

Agree with the sentiment that this old beast is a great value proposition. I am still using mine, 8 years later- the best return on investment I've had on a camera... I am still waiting for Sony to put 12 bit internal in their cameras to justify an upgrade!... I am not alone in preferring the image from this camera to the next generation, there is something special about this sensor, it just needs light, so best to rate it as ASA 500. Note- the Odyssey is darn fine recorder, just requires transcoding from CimeamDNG RAW to ProRes 444 for 12 bit, but is a solid metal block that makes no noise, and mine has taken a beating, so don't be shy to get an FS700 Oddysey combo, if someone is selling that...

Nicely done! Thanks!! 8 years after I still widely use my FS700 with Odyssey 7q and I pray every day it will still work for many years ! True that there are some limitations in low light, I use newer mirrorless cameras for such scenarios, but for serious shootings requiring some additional lights, it's my first choice, the dynamic range, sharpness and overall soft and organic look of images I find with this camera, I can't find it in new mirrorless cameras.

Really love this series. Ended up getting a Sony pmw-f3 from the recommendation from the last video. The image on it has great character. Definitely a great buy.

The form factor of the cameras actually good if you think about it because with a red or an RV camera you would have to add accessories to it anyway which gives it a clunky look where as these attachments are seamlessly integrated with in the build of the camera
