This was definitely helpful to give an idea of how to go about it. I’m a professional tech and i still found that bottom bolt quite frustrating. On the reinstall I found it helpful to go ahead and put the bolt in the lower hole and get the socket extension on and work the whole thing into the engine bay together.
@OnlineMechanicTips4 жыл бұрын
Yea I forgot about the other tip I had for this vid at the time. Same what you saying. I use one of the 8mm bolts from the bracket, put a lil silicone on the treads then insert the bolt in the hole so it would stay and then insert the thermostat down in its place..good stuff man

Had to go to the parts store and buy a swivel 10mm and use your tape trick. Been working on that bolt for hour. Five minutes using your method and it was off. Owe you $ for that. Thanks for the video!!! This the main one I used to change mine on a 2017 Jeep Renegade. I watched another video where the guy removed the battery instead of the pump. This was easier, battery looked more of a hassle. The difference on mine was the hard bolt. Swivel didn't work for me. I had to use a straight extension, about 8 inches I'm guessing. Also the crazy thing on mine was the upper left an lower right were the 10mm bolts and the other 2 were the the 8mm bolts. If you read this, can you answer this - what kind pump is it that is removed - what does it pump? Thanks!
@OnlineMechanicTips3 жыл бұрын
Hey bud, that is a brake booster assist pump. It gives power assist to your braking system. This means you use less work to press down on the brake pedal. A lot of the newer cars still a vacuum hose that come off the booster to assist but the slowly moving to this style. Thanks for watching bud.

I don't have a car with this engine, but this was well-done & very informative. I like the idea of taping the swivel socket on, so I will keep that in mind. On my 2003 Saturn L (2.2 Ecotec), when I replaced the crank sensor, it required removal of the starter. When I replaced the starter, I had to tape 1 of the bolts to the socket & extension. I have heard of stuffing a piece of paper or a leaf into the socket to hold the bolt, but that was not going to work, so it had to be tape. You just have to be careful and try to position the tape so that it will all pull back once the bolt is seated in the threads.

I AM A LADY and wanted to say HEADS UP!!! FIRST REMOVE THAT HOSE BLOCKING THE HIDDEN BOLT. SECOND REMOVE THE HIDDEN BOLT FIRST!!!! 3RD...USE A 3 INCH RATCHET EXTENSION on an 7 inch ratchet.( the smaller and thinner the better) FOR A 8 OR 10 MM socket, because they are not uniform. Buy yourself some electrical tape, some clear zip lock bags and some small 1 or 2 inch elastic hair ties and wrap any electricals in the ziplock using a hair tire, even hoses, then place a matching one on where it connects too. I also placed my pcmconnectors in ziplocks and tied them. So match color to color so you know what goes where. I found hair ties with about 28 with 7 different colors. . Place a very thin cheese cloth under the housing and spread it as wide as you can so you don't lose any bolts or sockets when you drop them, BECAUSE YOU WILL DROP THEM. Also WRITE DOWN HIS STEPS BUT THEN REMOVE THAT HOSE WHERE APPROPRIATE. LASTLY YOU WILL HAVE TO BLEED THE COOLANT! ALSO not sure if there is supposed to be any sealant on the vacuum or air housing...whaatever its called. but if it is not properly put on...oil spills out once you start your car. I JUST DID THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME AND IT TOOK 16 HOURS. I have to have a mobile mechanic come out and bleed it for me tomorrow/today. I JUST NEED TO REST. IT WILL FRUSTRATE YOU IF YOU DO - do it yourself for the first time. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY A STRAIGHT 3 IN SOCKET EXTENSION AND YOU CAN KNOCK IT OUT SO FAST. AS far as that bracket is concerned...I don't know why he said take it off. I took the bolts off that bracket and it only allows slightly more wiggle room. But taking it off...NO. nOT HAPPENING.

yes its a pain..I started going back in with one of them 8mm bolts from the bracket and i would coat the inside of the socket with rtv so the bolt would sort of stick to it and then try fishing it in there

Maybe I should just try snap on fdx 10mm?

I did not reinstall the black bracket. It just seemed in the way.

The price to have it done professionally is £400. If you have more money than you know what to do with it or more money than sense, pay the amount. The thermostat housing, itself, only costs £34. It only took wm 2 hours 40 minutes and I am nothing but a glorified chimpanzee, mentally.

Fantastic video! Thank you! I would almost rather pay you to do it instead of doing it myself. My sausage fingers will have a terrible time with that bottom right bolt. Thanks again!

Great video, detailed and clearly explained! Question, did the wire pop out of the connector? I could not see it clearly, and if it did, how hard was it to replace that connector being in such a horrible location? That was a wicked job, thanks for the video. Semper Fi, USMC.

That bottom right bolt is literally impossible to get to 😡

Its do-able bud, just takes a lot of swiveling. Because your only other option is to remove everything around it
