This is helpful, let me repeat very HELPFUL. You have the most realistic approach; the rest of the example videos show it like magic which is not good. Also it's noteworthy to use this opportunity to change the hoses (either the ones with the plastic quick connects or all- you be the judge) esp if your vehicle has over 75K miles. These get real brittle and can be suspects for unnoticeable leaks and annoying overheating problems. The hoses are really tested when you engage that heater on a cold day. 2. Prying that pipe as Joe mentioned is key as there's an ear cinch clamp that blocks the path to the ever difficult 10mm bolt at the bottom right of the thermostat. 3. Buy disconnect tools for the quick connectors - they save pain and cost. 4. PLEASE remember to reattach the ground cable to the PCM that's sits next to the battery. 5. BIG THUMBS UP AND A WORLD OF GRATITUDE TO JOE. THANKS

I was able to remove the bottom bolt from the thermostat by removing the hose. Clipping the hose clamp was ridiculously hard, but I replaced it with a worm drive clamp to make it easier if i ever need to get back in there. With that lower hose off, i was able to reach a 1/4" socket on a small extension back there to get it fitted to the bolt, then just had to attach the socket wrench to the extension

Hey thanks Joe for that video...I had a job today with that problem. I'd like to add with that pain in the ass bolt on the bottom right...what I found the easiest tool to use is a 1/4 drive 10mm flex socket with using two 1/4 drive small extensions to remove that bolt...dont remove the top left bolt till you get that one out so you can remove it with your fingers easier...but yeah what a pain of a job and I'm a 16 year tech. The worse part of that job is that bolt...and yes remove the ground of the battery whenever you disconnect anything with electrical components...especially the ECU and throttle body...do not crank the car right away...leave it on ignition for 10sec prior to start before firing it up.

How did you remove the hose coming from the thermostat to the radiator? That hose and damn throttle body are the only things keeping me from replacing my thermostat.
@JoesCarSmartsNY5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like the hose is stuck on the thermostat housing? The trick to hoses like that is to grip them firmly with a large pair of pliers and twist. The twisting motion breaks the seal between the hose and the housing. Once this is loose the hose much easier to take off. Best of luck to you.

@@mohamedeldemerdash9583 I’m not totally sure. You can check the head to see if the o ring stick to it. Next option is take the pump to a parts store and try to get one that fits in there. Remember it’s exposed to oil so it needs to be able to withstand that and the heat.

Do you need to use a pressure system when refilling the coolant? Oreillys showed in the vehicle specs that it was a needed step.
@JoesCarSmartsNY4 жыл бұрын
I did not use any pressurized system. I filled it and carefully made sure there were no air pockets in the system. You let the engine get up to temp with the heat on high and defrost feature on. Once the thermostat opens and you have heat you should have eliminated all air pockets in the system. Then you can carefully double check your coolant level. In a few days check it again and top it off as needed.
@18Jharmer4 жыл бұрын
Did you completely flush the system or did you keep some residual coolant in?

When you remove the PCM does it need programming? Does the vacuum pump need bleeding? How about bleeding the coolant system? Or is it a self bleed
@JoesCarSmartsNY6 жыл бұрын
Rob E I did not reprogram anything with the PCM. I did not do anything to bleed the vacuum pump. For the coolant I let the engine idle to full operation temp with the coolant reservoir lid off to allow air to escape. I topped that reservoir to slightly above the full mark in case there might be some additional air in the system. These steps worked for me, I cannot say they will absolutely work for you and I don’t k ow exactly what Chrysler’s service procedures are for this. But this repair done in this manner solved this engine light for this car.

Coolant was a bit under the max line and I just filled it passed the line and after a day the check engine light went away?
@JoesCarSmartsNY6 жыл бұрын
Freddy Rodriguez The way this code works is that it monitors exactly how long the engine takes to reach operating temp. The actual coolant level (as long as it’s between min and max) doesn’t actually change this issue. You may have a thermostat or sensor that is borderline as far as meeting the exact requirements the ECM wants to see. Do you know if you’re dealing with this exact code? That being said, when my brothers issue began he did add a bit of coolant and the light went out for awhile. Later on the light came on and stayed on.
