Thanks for information and video Ten-Nine-Four! I have a 1959 Galaxie that has power brakes but uses a four bolt single manual master cly. Have been looking to upgrade for years. Ordered the dual drum master and after compairing it to the old single one, I am now confident that it will be a simple and inexpensive safety upgrade.

Thank you for this informative & thorough video. Do you know if the Ford Falcon & Ford Thunderbird are comparable? I have drum brakes btw. All information is appreciated. Thanks!

Just lost brakes in my 63 Falcon yesterday getting off the highway. Single circuit meant I lost all brakes. I had been thinking of upgrading to a dual pot master recently... all of the parts should be here tomorrow. Could have ended much worse than getting towed home.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have 63 Comet and want to do the same. Im on the fence about doing a complete front disk conversion and knowing that I would need a different MC for that. Is there any reason why you did not do a front disc conversion instead because if you change your mind you would need to start all over again with a different MC? Thank you.
@109477925 ай бұрын
@@galaxyflyer1 although it is much more safe, I didn’t do the conversion because I wanted to keep the car as stock as possible. I convinced myself converting just the MC was far less intrusive to the car than changing most of the front suspension. That said, if I ever have the car to my kids/grand kids I would probably do the conversion like you.

I was surprised to hear that the front brake lines are routed into the rear port on the new master cylinder. I would have thought it would have been the front port. Is this because the front brakes need to apply first?
@109477922 жыл бұрын
That's a great question and to be honest, I don't know the answer. it may be because one reservoir is larger than the other or as you said, the rear reservoir pushes fluid first.......however, with the fluid's incompressibility, I don't know if that would matter. Maybe someone smarter than I can elaborate. thanks for the comment.

@@10947792 I have a 64 falcon in the shop right now & another shop installed a dual master with the front brakes off the front port and rear brakes off the rear port as "saffron" mentioned. we are having issues with it holding the front brakes on tho. I am going to swap the lines and see if it changes. how did you decide to run the lines (rear port to front) (front port to rear ) ? any info would help to understand this better. Is there possibly a check valve to hold some residual pressure on?
@109477922 жыл бұрын
@@runitmj I used an article from the September 2006 Falcon National News letter. I use their reference library as one of my go to sources for info and repair data. it clearly links the front brakes and the rear MC brake line port. if you're comfortable with this, send me your contact info and I'll forward a copy of the article to you.

Need the part number of the master cylinder
@109477922 ай бұрын
@@madelinebryant7911 the master cylinder I used was from Raybestos. Part number is MC36222. The important thing to remember is to purchase a MC that is for manual breaks (non-power) and is for drum breaks (non disk break). Look up ‘67 Mustang with a 200 CID, in line 6 cylinder engine on Rock Auto and you will have several manufacturers and quality options to choose from. Good luck.
@75cezr Жыл бұрын
Fantastic video. Question though. I plan on converting the front drums on my 63 to disc as well. You mentioned that the master cylinder is from a 67 mustang non disc. Will it still work or do I just buy the 67 with front disc master cylinder? Thanks
@10947792 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and I hope the video was able to help you. From my research on this project, the disc brake and non-disk brake MCs are different and are not interchangeable. I would suggest you stick with a MC that is designed for disk brakes if that is what you'll eventually be installing in your ride. good luck and keep us posted!

How much improvement in brake performance was gained with the 4 wheel drums in comparison to the original MC?
@109477923 жыл бұрын
I can't honestly say that I noticed any improvement in the drum brakes' ability to slow / stop the car......Its a 170 six so it can't go all that fast. The reason I changed to a dual bowl MC is because I had a rear brake malfunction and subsequently lost all brake ability.......on a downward hill and approaching a major intersection. I was fortunate I was able to glide through the intersection w/o injure/damage. My wife was in the car and said she will never ride with me again until I upgrade the brake system to a dual bowl set up.

I am wanting to do this swap on my 63 Galaxie 500. Are there any special adjustments that need to be made to keep the front and rear brakes in sync?
@109477923 жыл бұрын
if your talking about using a proportioning valve, it was not required for this job. If you have disk brakes on the front then that may be a different story.

@10947792 Жыл бұрын
Just saw your question. I don't recall the part number however you should be able to call Auto Zone (where I got it from) and tell them you want a dual master cylinder for a '67 Mustang. MC must be for a non-Power steering, non power brakes Mustang. you could probably look that up on Rock Auto too.

thanks for the comment. I was following the steps a member of the Falcon Club of America published and didn't want to vary them. I would say the it was probably done as a bench bleed vice on the car because the space is limited and the potential to splash brake fluid on the paint is great. Otherwise your idea would certainly work as well. cheers and ROCK on!!
