So the pilot bearing does not need to be removed from the crank or reinstalled to it. You just put the flywheel in with the bearing in the flywheel, so no need to worry about pilot bearing removal or installation for this job.

From start to finish, how long did it take you to remove and then fit all that stuff? I need the same doing to mine, gonna order the kit, but I will get my garage guy to fit it, would be good to get a rough idea how many work hors it needs... BMW's never stop costing money.

Thx! The rattling sound you described: Is it only when partially engaged or does it occur when the pedal is fully released (clutch engaged) too? I have a strange rattling when accelerating at low RPM (1000-1300), as if the exhaust / heatshield or some sort of sheet metal were resonating / hammering into something else. Start from a standstill is jerky as well.

Do you need one of those self adjusting clutch tools to bolt on the pressure plate or does that locking ring you could see in the new one mean you can just bolt the plate straight on then release the locking ring?. Thanks .

Also interested, it looks to be already pre tensioned hence the 14mm Allen key plate holding the springs down??

Hello Mr. Burke, Which aftermarket brand did you use ? Do you know who is BMW supplier for OEM parts for clutch and dual mass? What brand GEAR OIL did you use to fill the gearbox? Will be very useful Comgratulations for your channel BimmerN53

The aftermarket brand he used was LUK. Not sure if they are a direct oem supplier but Sachs and Valeo are and they have their own flywheels and clutch kits for this model.

Have you had any experience fitting a solid single mass fly wheel kit to an E90 320d?. My 2006 needs a flywheel and clutch and the SMF kits are pretty much half the price of a DMF kit, some people say they are fine, some people say not to do it. I don't have much money to put in to the car, I can tolerate abit of extra vibration aslong as its reliable. What do you reckon? Cheers.

Are you saying the car was starting before you started the clutch job and once it was complete it doesn't?

Starting the car is nothing to do with the clutch! Check your starter and injectors and fuel pump ! One of them at fault 💪 good luck

What model 3 series was this with the 8 bolt flywheel? N52 or n54?

Can a bad flywheel cause a bmw to loose power aswel

No it can not. The clutch can make acceleration sloppy as it will slip. A worn flywheel will give you noise, vibration and in the end you cannot select any gears.

I had brought my complaint with bmw NA : "rattle near clutch engagement point in 1st gear , jerky car" and they refused to do anything about it, claiming it was normal. I came back complaining about it a second time and the bmw regional engineer also rejected my complain (avoiding to meet me) and sent me an email that "clutch are a wear item blah blah" when clearly it's a DMF issue, not the clutch. Especially since my car has only 25k miles and bought factory new by me, they are liars to refuse to fix it. Now my warranty expired and i don't know what to do. I want to bring it to an indy store (to diagnose it) then sue BMW NA. I already got testdrive opinions from independent mechanics all said, something is wrong with DMF. I even said so to the bmw dealer, the bmw mechanic laughed to my face saying BMW NA does not care what indy mechanic have to say.

take out your CDV (Clutch delay vale) you will feel the difference changing gears... 👍You can thank me later 😉

Are you speaking about this job or in general to people that may be looking? The finished work on this made the gear changing like new again. certainly no need to remove any other components in this job.

I got the same problem, judder when taking off in 1st gear, took CDV off and replaced with modified one, but it didnt cure the problem, and while at the mechanics, noise comes when clutch is di-pressed, definitely bearing noise, but hoping dual mass flywheel is fine as its gonna cost a bomb to replace it

Yes, maybe. But by the time you take all of that stuff out of the car, you might as well replace everything that could be worn.
