Hyper - 204 kg SMT - 210 kg Multi - 234 kg I don't think you can compare the Hyper with the Multi. Having just done 1500 miles touring around France on a Hyper, I can say that it's good fun - boring on motorways (isn't any bike?) but excellent on the B-roads. I did 400 miles one day, easy, fully luggaged up with tent, etc. And then you arrive and go for luggage-free spins along those country roads in the Dordogne - bliss. I agree that it needs a bigger tank.

Comfort on highway is directly translated to comfort longer trips on bigger roads IMO.

What about for commuting with occasional touring like most riders would use for. I think the hyperstrada would meet the needs of an everyday commuter with weekend blast and occasional long distance ride. So for me I think hyperstrada.

I;m selling my Multistrada S and buying a Hyperstrada. Despite what these guys reckon, everything must be measured against your ride, a very personal thing. I bought the Multistrada thinking it would be the adventure bike I wanted. The problem is that the Multistrada is crap on gravel while the Hyperstrada is much better. Weight and ride position make all the difference and where the Multi is heavy and scarily unstable on gravel, the Hyper is light and confidence building. Given I live in New Zealand where the roads are 50% gravel; my adventure bike has to be good on both and only the Hyper cuts it. I ove the power of the Multi but after 2 years, I recognise that I barely use it and just don't need it. The Hyper has plenty. Yes, I will fit better forks and shock and increase travel a bit when I do so. I have a dead KTM690smc and I will see whether I can fit those forks and shock.

I like the fact that they also compare it to the KTM SMT. A lot of reviewers have forgotten this bike with al the new arrivals. But like Neevesy said, it's one of the best all-rounders you can find.

I own an 09 plate 990 so not sure how relevant my words are, but soon after buying mine last year, I found myself on a lazy(ish) tour of my local area during the harvest. In only a few hours I went to see my girlfriend (20 miles of heavy main road 60-80mph traffic), had a little back road blasting on the country lanes (20-60mph twisties with added bumps) looking for combines, or specifically my mates, and on finding them several fields in from the road, I then rode up to all the machines socialising (0-10mph serious off roading). When the combines shredded debris lands on the tramlines it creates a dry surface equivocal to black ice. The 990 took the entire day in her stride and inspired bags of confidence at every step. Not bad for a big heavy tourer/commuter I can do up to 800 miles a week on in total comfort and in all weathers when my work makes me really travel.
@hugobear19 жыл бұрын
I'd like a Multistrada especially having ridden one for a week-end but I bought the SMT for one very good reason - a low mileage one only costs £6k. And it's still a superb bike. And less likely to get nicked.

ive been lucky enough to own over 180 bikes from cruisers to rocket ships and have settled for my 2 favourites of all time, KTM950 Adventure and 2012 KTM 990 SMT, 16 tooth sprockets on both changes them completely and removes jerkyness ( best and cheapest mod), smt for day to day and can easily tour with additional fuel and my adventure for touring, smiles for miles each and every time!

Ive had the ms pp for over a year. Best Bike ive ever ridden. Did 2k miles on the Pacific coast USA this year. 2 up camping, Forrest roads, beaches and mountian twisties. Then its still comfy blasting down the motorway. I have a 1098 for the track but for anything else the ms is just the perfect ride.

Multistrada looks more plush,comfortable easier to live with (heated grips) I'm 5'8" so seat height, feet flat on the ground ,centre stand are important. For me initially I favored the Hyperstrada.

Nice review . This dude always gives the better motorcycle reviews . Keep up the good work MCN . I value your opinion . I base a large part of my buying power on your reviews and you have never done me wrong . My 3rd new bike that I recently purchased based on your opinion is the new V-strom 650 . You gave it 5 stars . Excellent bang for the buck . I have been getting 65-67 mpg on it this past year . You are right . It makes the Tiger 800 look over priced with the $2500 higher price tag .

I rode both the hyperstrada and the SMT last weekend. I thought the Ducati was MILES better. The adjustable ride modes give you far more flexibility, the sport mode is much punchier than the SMT and the urban mode is great for inner city riding. The Ducati feels more flickable than the SMT, and far more fun to ride. The only advantage the ktm did have was the turning lock. That thing can practically do a u-turn in a single lane!

Another great review - I rode one a few months ago but actually went for the F700GS as I thought the Hyoerstrada was just too like a dirt bike. Btw, *please* can you guys learn how to mix the audio and music at the same volume?!?! You can hardly hear the audio at times so I turn the speakers up only to be deafened by the music 20 seconds later!! It's the same in nearly all your videos too - please, for the sake of our hearing, take some time to mix both audio and music *at the same level*!!!

The KTM 990SMT is a rather old bike..Certainly the engine which is like 7 years old by now, even older if u go back to the 950 that it is based on and has seen the light back in 2003. The updates on the rest of the bike are rather marginal since it's release. The choice between these 3 is based on what you want and what u'd like to spend. Being the Multistrada if u got the cash to buy and maintain it. If you're limited on funds and know you way a bit with wrenches the SMT is the cheapest choice.
@MrDesp211 жыл бұрын
Hyper seat height is too tall 850mm I think, so It should suit the taller guy....afraid not as the seat is so close to the bars, it is indead like sitting on a motocrosser. Good for messing around hills and caynons but not as a tourer. The Multi and Ktm are best suited to this and the Skyhook is just on another level, best bike I've ridden so far.

In my opinion why do you need all the electronics in a motorcycle nowadays. Yes ABS is a valued piece of technology that aids in safety, but everything else is rather pointless. Buying the Multi (£15K) is only showing people that you have more money than sense. Why consider the Hyper (£10K+), you're compromising on the Ducati esq for a cramped, watered down Multi, it would be like someone buying a Porsche boxter (cheap mans choice). So it would only make logical sense to go for the KTM (£10K)

This is not very helpful. Talk about VALUE, what you get for the money, what you can do with the bike, what it will work best for--what if you don't like big bikes? what if it is for commuting? how is it urban? CLEARLY, if I had $24k I would buy a multistrada, but that just isn't feasible. terrible review, sorry. I learned nothing other than spending more gets you more.
