The penultimate part to craft for the Ducati Monster Cafe Racer build 'GHOST' before we can strip the frame down for powdercoating, is the headlight fairing. Using the clay shape we created in the last episode we can now make a fibreglass prototype. Thanks to EasyComposites

Nice work! One thing I learned was to use florist foam for shaping the plug. So much easier than sanding bondo into complex shapes.

Looking good! All that sanding/filling/primer/repeat on the fairing plug... I was feeling all the hard work, I've just been doing the exact same process on my guitar ready for a respray. You've got great attention to detail!

Indeed, as I was editing it last night I thought I'd drop about 3 repeats out of the final video, but as you know everytime you'l find a new blemish that needs sorting. Hope the guitar is coming on well

Great episode as always. I've recently (about a week) started designing small 3D parts for my bikes like brackets, mounts etc.. It is proving very useful, something like this headlight fairing is an ideal candidate for 3D design and it might make your life easier on other parts. Fusion 360 is surprisingly easy to learn for basic modelling, I think you would get on with it really well.
@forthebold
@forthebold 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, surprisingly enough my background does involve 3d work back to the days of Carrara 3d and even Maya (this goes back about 15 years!. The challenge I have is I can't decide on the shape until I see it in real life and feel it. Have you ever tried blender, nowadays it's so easy
@awood12345
@awood12345 4 жыл бұрын
@@forthebold I used Maya many years ago at University but hadn't touched anything 3D for 10+ years. I've not touched blender but I've heard it is good, one 3D software is enough at the moment, lol.

Another great episode. Been following you for a while since your CB750 build as that's what I had at the time. I know fabrication is something you really like doing as I do but I can't weld (yet). As a thought for a future subject your advise on what welder to go for - it's bewildering - MIG, TIG, Arc, gas, no gas, output etc. Maybe a follow up on some basic welding techniques for bike builds would be fab. I know there's training stuff out there but your take on it would be useful. Apologies if you've covered this somewhere and I've missed it.

@forthebold
@forthebold 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not worried about how they'll run, what you might have to watch out is how it might eat away and perish old rubbers, but that's an easy fix. If it ignites on spark, that's all I care about.

@@forthebold well I for one would be interested in more info about how to keep our old bikes not perishing. All of us with these bikes need to know so maybe a short video please lol. Is it just the fuel lines or are we talking all the carbs needing work etc etc....cheers

No it’s got an actual name where it’s a polyester coating which dries to be a mirror finish for a plug.
