After researching the Ducati forums ans other KZbins, THIS is the definitive video that answered all my questions. I purchased an '08 1098 with 16k miles, and immediately experienced the wire harness oil leak as well as one at the rear of the case that I thought initially was the clutch slave cylinder weeping. (it's not). The biggest question I had, that you answered, is whether there is supposed to be oil in the stator case to begin with. Now all I have to worry about s re-sealing the case and possibly the wire insulation where the oil seems to be traveling through the harness. On the chance you will read this: the bike has a Rizoma clutch cover. The pushrod seems to spin with the motor despite the bearing it sits in at the clutch end. Is this typical? Thanks!
@RideWNC Жыл бұрын
Yeah. Typically the bearing is supposed to spin on the rod. But with a the debris in the clutch that does not help. Then if you do an open clutch cover, you introduce moisture and best of all rain. That bearing is impossible to keep clean and lubed. It would be a great location for a sealed bearing. The O-Ring on the slave side is really easy to replace. So that is a plus. That size is in the Harbor Freight bulk O-ring kit.

I start my 848 and everything is good until the fan starts, once this happens the board and the lights turn off and the batt reaches only 5 volts, then when the fan stops, the board and lights turn on again and the batt reaches the 13 volts. Do you know if this happens due to the stator or due to the regulator?

Thanks for all the time you spent on this, I need to start this project before June, am looking for all the tools and parts I need to do it in Puerto Rico. Do you have a Maintenance Video? i have a Diavel 1198 2011

There are not many if any here in the mountains of NC which I know of. I have not worked on one.

My 09 848 will turn but not start. Not the battery or plug or gas pump or fuses. Do you think that this is the same issue as this video?

Hey do you mind telling what that sealant is that you're putting on the edges... I'm sure just some basic seal stuff but just wondering
Thank you very much. This job was very time consuming. The outcome was worth it.

I have an 02 monster 750 SIe. Believe my stator is going bad. Getting ready to do all the testing but how much oil comes out if you don’t drain it? I just did my oil and hate to lose it. The shell was pretty costly.
@ickess2 жыл бұрын
@@Jonathan_Doe_ so turns out it was actually regulator rectifier. All the voltages were good from the stator. No grounds or opens. The RR “had” been testing good but when I went this time and retested it the diodes didn’t test good. There was also no voltage coming out of it to the battery and when I removed it again there was actually a burn mark on the bottom. Must have been on the way out making it hard to diagnose and then just died. Replaced and the bike runs like a top again. Thank God didn’t have to do the stator as well.
@ickess2 жыл бұрын
@@Jonathan_Doe_ that’s what one shop warned me about. That the regulator rectifier could’ve been taken out by the stator or could kill the stator when it went out. I checked all the voltages on the stater and took them to a Ducati dealer who went through all the manuals and found me a print out of what they’re supposed to be and their tolerances and I was spot on. Thank God!

Nope. If you are seeing coolant drip under your bike, check the radiator. These bikes are prone to bad radiators.

@@RideWNC I was in shock when you said 67 or 76 ,000miles I was like whattttt. Reason I asked was because I had coolant in oil and a lot of people said it was a water pump seal or a head gasket. Mine you I have a sf 848 2012
