Here I take a look at the Ducky One Blue LED Mechanical Keyboard with black case and Cherry MX Brown switches. After unboxing the keyboard and physical tour, I perform a typing test to give you an idea of how the keys sound and how it is to actually use.

I've got 2 older Ducky Shine's. A Shine 1 and a Shine 2. The Shine 1 is at work, with brown switches, 4 years old still going strong, no faults at all. The Shine 2 with black switches is 3 years old, has survived a full cup of coffee being poured into it, no issues. Definitely recommend the brand. Also great review, hit on all the key points.

Hey Jarrod, just came across your channel after searching for reviews on this keyboard. What a fantastic video! Concise review, very professional, you speak clearly and at a good pace (so many other videos have people talking far too quickly) and most importantly you nailed all the features! No BSing around the facts - I love that. Fantastic video again mate, well done, and here's a new subscriber for you! Thank you for taking the time to do this review.

Based on this four year old review I bought a seconhand RGB one of these from eBay last week. It's not a Ducky One 2 but a white Ducky One with RGB and full size. It has Cherry MX Blues and the RGB is amazing for adjusting the backlighting. I'm not into any of the RGB flashy modes but adjusting the solid white backlight to this warm white by removing some blue (iirc) makes the keyboard a joy to use. The plain blue backlight is very good as is the red. It is a seriously good keyboard this thing but it has a stupid fault - the number lock/caps lock indicator lights/etc are obscured by the number pad keys, so unless you sit with the keyboard right under you you can't see the lights clearly during the day. An unacceptable oversight. Ruins a really good keyboard that! I have never owned a keyboard where you can't see the lights. If I read that in a review it would've been a deal breaker because this sort of thing is frankly a ridiculous design flaw. That off my chest, this is a great keyboard. As is, I rate this as a 5/10 keyboard, but if the indicator lights issue were resolved I'd give it a perfect score. because at some point you have to ask yourself what's the point of it if you can't view the instrumentation required for it to work for its singular reason for existing? I mean all it has to do is be a keyboard and for the last 50 or so years about all the keyboards out there, even very cheap ones, have managed to tackle this horrendously difficult issue with comparative ease. On the up side a better keyboard is hard to imagine (except perhaps a keyboard with indicator lights in a position you can actually see them ffs!). Simple plain white keyboard with clicky Blue Switches and backlighting - what's not to like? (oh the indicator light thingy ROFL). Yeah 5/10 is about right considering the new at the time price.

The FN/Function key on my Duck One TKL RGB won't work. I've tried many online key testers and still nothing. The main problem with this, is that my RGB backlighting is stuck on rainbow and I want to change it to red. However, you can only change the RGB via pressing the FN key. Does anyone know how I can change the RGB without pressing FN? I tried using my other keyboard to hold down FN, however it didn't work for obvious reasons but that was the best I could come up with.
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not too sure about that myself, hopefully someone else can help. If this is because of anything that's been configured on the keyboard you could try and reset it to factory default and see if it still happens? Otherwise the steps to change it might be slightly different to the ones in this video, as this isn't the TKL or RGB version.
@Pensa73
@Pensa73 6 жыл бұрын
Maybe you are using a different layout and the FN key is actually where the windows key is. However I don't know if this is a possibility with a Ducky keyboard, this happened to me several times with my Anne pro because I changed the layout accidentaly

Why WASD though? ESDF is just plain better. It's home typing position for your index finger, it allows you to reach more keys on the left side of your hand and makes it harder to accidentally hit caps lock, tab or windows key. The recording mode is a very nice feature.

Cool review. When you say typing feels better on the Ducky, is it due to the type of keycaps? Currently deciding between a Filco and a Ducky, would love to have some insight from you.
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 8 жыл бұрын
My Filco keys do feel a little smoother, however I don't think it's the surface that made the difference to me, the keys on the Ducky keyboard just felt nicer to press in despite them both being Cherry MX browns, so it may be that my Filco is just older so they may no longer feel as nice, I can't say for sure, however in the current state the Ducky keyboard did feel nicer.

That's really odd, it should come in the box usually. It is just a simple Micro USB cable though, so you should be able to buy one fairly cheap on Amazon/Ebay if you don't already have one. Maybe worth contacting the place you bought it from too and ask about it.

Hey, Jarrod following your review I just bought this Ducky One keyboard for almost a week by now, but the one I bought is without the LED (black-orange ABS). The keyboard feels so great especially about the clicks (Red cherry & this is my first mechanical), but when you click the space bar, enter or any other longer length button is it normal that those keys sound different than the alphabets keys (the space, enter, shift bar sounds quite more cranky or sort of) ? And I also got another problem. After using the keyboard normally on my PC, I shutted down my PC. Then I turned my PC back on while this keyboard is still plugged in with the PC, my mouse was already on but my Ducky One wasn't on at all even until my PC was already at my desktop and never turned on ever after. In order to turn the keyboard back on, I had to re-plugged the USB with my PC, and I've trid it with 3 different PCs. Do you have this problem too ? Thanks, mate.
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 8 жыл бұрын
Hey, yeah in my experience it's pretty normal for the longer keys to sound a bit different, especially the space bar. If you pull those key caps off you'll see why, usually there's still only one switch that gets pressed down and the rest of the space is a metal bar that runs the length of the key so that the switch will press down regardless of where you press the key in which makes the key push down evenly. I didn't have that problem, when you say the keyboard did not turn on is that referring to the LEDs only, or are you also not able to type? If you are not able to type at all without unplugging it and plugging it back in then that does sound like a problem.
@stefanusrianto8781
@stefanusrianto8781 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, mate. Oh right I just knew about the metal bar. Thanks for the info about that. About my problem, I can't even type at all and also the LED for the capslock/numpad can't turned back on either without re-plugging the keyboard to my PC. And I just found another one, that my volume up & down is reversed. So the top most right of the button is supposed to be vol. up, yes ? Well my keycap is vol. up but when I press it, the vol. goes down & vise versa. So that I've to replace the keycap with each other. LOL. I even already reset the keyboard (Win left+right), but the results are still the same.
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 8 жыл бұрын
That definitely sounds like a problem, you should be able to use the keyboard after turning the computer on without having to unplug it, I'd suggest contacting the place you got it from and advising them so that you can hopefully get it replaced with one that does not have this problem.

Hi, I just stumbled upon your video by chance as I was researching for a new keyboard. I am also currently using a Filco Majestouch 2 with MX browns. Could you explain/describe in greater detail what what you liked about the Ducky more than your Filco? (What keycaps are you using on your Filco? - since I noticed you said that you felt that your new Ducky was more crisp/responsive in the video) - thanks!
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah the ducky keyboard did feel nicer to me, but as I think I mentioned, that could just be because it's a lot newer. I've been using the filco keyboard for many years now. The keycaps are just some generic blank ones I got from Amazon and they feel very smooth, though this is probably because I've typed on them for so long. The filco keyboard is still good and I still use it. It's hard to describe how they just feel slightly different to press, despite both being brown switches.

Nice video bro. I need a question here for the channel or anyone who read this comment. What are the differences between Ducky One (with backlight) with Ducky Zero (with Backlight) ? I saw that they both use Cherry MX, and backlights, but I don't see any other things that difference them. Thanks
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 8 жыл бұрын
I haven't personally used the Zero, however after looking at the product description it does appear to be fairly similar. The main thing seems to be that the whole keyboard isn't LED backlit, just a few select keys such as caps/num/scroll lock and a few others. The feet appear to be different and don't have multiple height adjustments or rubber to it may be easier to slide. The cable does not appear to be removable, and there do not appear to be macro keys available.

+Jarrod'sTech I see. Anyway as far as you can see, do you think there's any difference in the key fonts or key size between those two? Thanks
@JarrodsTech

They look pretty similar on the letters from what I can see, however the Zero has some larger such as the num pad keys

I bought this 4 years ago and my USB Cable connection was dodgy from the get go. I've made do with it because I love the keyboard, but just recently I have been getting issues with holding down shift to run in games. It happens in all games. The character seems to slow down when running, then completely stops. It's frustrating as hell and I haven't seen anyone else with this problem online.

Any chance of swapping the cable?
@ChipsNeeson
@ChipsNeeson 4 жыл бұрын
@@JarrodsTech Funny you ask. After posting this, I went searching and found one that fits. The charging cable for my Corsair Vengeance 2100 wireless headset fits nicely and presses the connector in and holds it tight. Problem solved. I feel a little silly as I didn't think the cable would be the issue as the ducky cable would plug in and all the lighting modes worked. I just thought the connection was fiddly. There you bloody go.

should i get red/brown if i do alot of gaming and typing, also tkl/full? full is 10$ more expensive here, i can use that extra money to buy some keycaps, but i need numlad cus i also sometimes play gta v
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 7 жыл бұрын
If you need the numpad then I'd suggest getting it, $10 extra isn't that much compared to the base price of the keyboard itself. I've never personally used red switches, however I've heard reds are better for gaming, but browns are better overall for typing too. I've always used browns and really like them.

I would assume so, it just uses standard USB type-A, so if your mac is an older model with that port then yes it should work fine. If not you might need some sort of adapter or USB hub that has type-A ports.

Don't buy Ducky keyboard, the product might be ok but their customer support is horrible. I sent my keyboard to them as they said that they will fix it free, but asking the cost of part afterwards and the shipping from Taiwan to Netherlands is 60 USD. I asked to ship it back but they still asking the shipping cost, not sending it to me.
