For anything over 1000 watts, especially in an aluminum frame, you need torque arms on both sides. They are not just a failsafe or an afterthought. They are crucial to your survival. Preferably not the universal torque arms supplied by the kit manufacturers because those don't really work. You need torque arms that are one piece and either bolt directly to the frame/dropout or can be hose clamped. The universal torque arms will not stop rotation enough to keep your dropouts from breaking. The best thing to do, if you're good with DIY is make your own. I say again, torture arms are a non negotiable.
@Chim5393 ай бұрын
I know this is a dumbass question but I can’t find it on google, what are torque arms
@tazerface86592 ай бұрын
@@Chim539 well, the motor's axle has flat sides that index into the bike's frame/dropouts to prevent the axle from spinning instead of the wheel. The alxe wants to spin the opposite direction of the wheel and a great amount of torque is applied to the frame by the axle. Torque arms are basically bars of metal, one side has a hole that is the shape of the axle and the other side is secured to the frame. This takes a lot of torque stress out of the dropouts and spreads it out making sure that the axle doesn't rip out of the frame or spin free of it, shredding the hall and phase wires of the motor.

Another great video,you definitely got better at building e-bikes since your start on KZbin, round here in Birmingham police are stopping ebikes and if home made or more the 250watt ,15.5Mph they are taking the bikes and getting done for riding an illegal bike, we got to be very careful now.
@andy-the-gardener3 ай бұрын
most of those riders probably only have themselves to blame for not looking like a normal cyclist enough and being too blatant with the power and speed in the wrong places. going obviously too fast uphill or through pedestrian areas is asking for police attention. wearing motorbike style clothing and helmets is a red flag too. as is a lowered seat post and not peddling or hard enough for the speed. the ones who get away with illegal ebikes probably look like an ordinary cyclist and use the power rarely and wisely
@dazaro33 ай бұрын
@@andy-the-gardener Yes you are totally right,that's exactly how I ride my ebike,I mostly use my e-bike on the canel,if I'm on the roads I use only pedal assist only and upto about 15-20mph and only go above that when on canel when it's clear ,i have gone past police when on the canal and never use throttle or even pedal assist , pedal power only,I say just use common sense and like you say if blasting down the road at 45mph you are asking for trouble from the law.

@@andy-the-gardener I'm my country it's mostly fat bikes the police are after, since most youths have a fat bike doing 35+ mph without peddling... I'm glad I chose an MTB, although the main reason was the more sturdier frame. I added a rear rack and saddle bags, hiding the motor. Haven't been stopped once in over 3000kms. Within city limits, I drive sensibly with only PAS 1 or 2, or around 35-37kmh, which is slightly faster than (e-)cyclists, but not as obviously fast like a moped. As soon as I hit the open road outside the cities though, I go full throttle.

Great Build. About that exploding tire, the hub motor wheel should be checked for protruding spokes. It's wise to have a tire liner to protect the tube from the spoke ends. I would also recommend green slime fluid inside the tubes to seal small punctures and a decent puncture-resistant tires like Fincci or Schwalbe Marathon Plus.

Dude, your instructions are very fine and detailed. Very fine -- and it is nice to see some new parts mounted on something. Taking a wheel apart --- have seen that before. There is no need to go through all the tools used, is a bit too much. Regarding a tube -- you do not throw it on the ground where you walk, because it may pick up small stones or dirt which -- if the tube is not cleaned -- ends up making a hole from inside the tire. No random throwing-around with tubes which you intend to use, please. Regarding an adjustable spanner -- you are using it wrong to loosen the sprocket. I know it does not need too much force, but the fixed jaw on the spanner is supposed to take the load, it becomes serious in other situations where bolts require much more force, say, when used on things beyond a bicycle. Jaws are not equally strong, do not take an equal amount of force. Google "correct use of an adjustable spanner", see the drawings. Disc bolts .... torque wrench and if you want to be a good mechanic. Tires -- except keeping the direction, it is sort-of an unspoken rule to align the visual label(s) on the tyre with either the lables on the rim or the valve. Usually, the valve hole in the rim is aligned with the labels stuck onto the rim, in this case some very noticeable "MTX39"-stickers. If a tyre has white, visual labels on both sides of the tyre then they are aligned, possible opposite, never placed random.

Firstly, its 1000/1500 max-rated motor (9c clone) so it's not very healthy to feed it 3000 watts-it won't work very long or be very power efficient. Secondly, most frames I was working on had to have the standard 9 mm dropouts filed so the 14 mm axle fit deeper and more snugly without any vertical curve gaps-there's not much aluminum there anyway, so every little bit helps. Lastly, the torque arm you used is very weak-you need something bolted to the frame on both sides to be safe in the long term.
